Of roughly 2.8 million ballots cast:
Time Rossi Lead Projected Margin Ballots Left 10:00am -158 1430 21666 03:00pm -196 1392 21551 03:40pm -168 1436 18931 04:30pm 236 1596 18566 06:00pm 621 1702 11456 07:00pm 33 613 6152 10:00pm 19 599 6127
These figures apparently include the Grays Harbor recount, which provided a significant boost to Gregoire. Looks like we’re headed for a recount.
And again, the Projected Margin (of a Rossi victory) is based on county by county estimates of ballots left to count, and the existing margins therein. If these estimates are dramatically off, so will be the projection.
Ray spews:
Let’s hope for even more excitement!
Stacey spews:
Patty Murray for four more years is bad enough. If Gregoire wins, I think I might have to kill myself.
Stacey spews:
. . . not literally, of course. ;-)
Cheryl spews:
Stacey — You’ve shown your true Republican stripes — ignorance! You don’t get just 4 more years of Patty Murray. You get a blessed 6 more years! Read the Constitution! (Or, like many of us, simply remember this simple fact from high school government classes: House of Represenatives, 2 year term. Senate, 6 year term.)
Just teasing. Although I understand your despair. If Rossi wins, I may well want to off myself. But then I wouldn’t be able to be here and be a thorn in the side of all you Republicans…
Johnny Wow spews:
Of course, you’ll get Patty Murray for six more years actually.
Ray spews:
Well, now we know how the deficit gets to be so big. Let’s just call six four and we can borrow/borrow/spend/spend and we wont’ think it’s so bad.
Stacey spews:
See how much I pay attention!!! Six more years? I am going to go cry now.
Andrew spews:
Go and cry, then. If Rossi loses, make sure to take him with you.
Gregoire has gotten another round of good news with this Grays Harbor development, which is excellent. Hopefully, things will continue to go our way. The last thing we need is Rossi as Governor – that would be unfortunate for Washington State.
Stacey spews:
Actually at last check, Rossi was leading by 236 votes. Things won’t go your way, Andrew. Let the Presidential race be a lesson to you. (Is there a middle finger icon?)
Jim King spews:
Hey! Skagit County found 3,000 more previously unreported ballots, and they broke for Rossi- giving him that 236 vote lead. Where’s the Republican conspiracy theorists’ outrage over mystery ballots in the Skagit Valley?
Andrew spews:
At last check:
Governor
Gregoire (D) 1,361,124
Rossi (R) 1,360,956
Things won’t go your way, Stacey. The GOP won’t get away with cheating here. We have better people running our elections than those in Florida. Frivolous lawsuits won’t help them.
Seems Rossi’s lead in Grays Harbor was thrown out the window…Gregoire is winning there now. Too bad, Stacey.
Mr. Cynical spews:
Stacey–
You go girl!!! Leftists have no sense of humor and actually take themselves seriously!!!
Now let’s see…the Dems have been in charge here for 20 years. And how is the traffic and business climate???
I used to be a Dem back in my University of Wisconsin–Madison days but learned during the protest years how insincere the Leftists are. It was a hard lesson but one that has stuck with me for 30 years.
Rossi will can all the entrenched bureaucrats and their ilk. That alone is worth him winning. You simply cannot have either Party in charge for 20 years without a house cleaning.
PS The Dems criticized Rossi for jumping the gun on a transition team. Gregoire didn’t need to do it because she will keep the same Leftist in-crowd!!
Stacey spews:
Well, I hate to burst your little bubble, Andrew . . . but the Secretary of State wesibte shows these results:
Bitch 1,363,892
Rossi 1,364,128
I normally HATE anything political, but in this case, I am passionate about a Rossi win. There is a reason they call us “RIGHT!”
rudy spews:
Three cheers for a Gregoire victory. Wasington will be the 14 state to pass a GAY RIGHTS bill, signed and sealed by the governor. About time. Musty Rossi with the too big ears and Valium eyes can go back to getting richer and richer and richer in the state with no business potential. Rudy – YES i am a very left QUEER democrat. All you Republican can keep Val Stevers and her ilk as your own.
DH spews:
If we get her highness we might as well join the socialists in BC – she has never made a payroll and hasnt got a clue what it takes to make a buck in this state. The Anti-Business Queen. She woould be a real winner after Do Nuttin Locke
DH spews:
Between the idiotys at WEA and a socialist queen like Christy following onto “DO Nuttin” Locke this ate might as well surrender to the Socialists in BC,
Get a clue folks – we will be a state of 100% entitlements with no businesses here to pay the bill.
Stacey spews:
Bitch 1,364,000
Rossi 1,364,292
GO DINO!! :-D
Jim King spews:
Sorry, Rudy- Ruth Bennett killed the gay rights bill for the next four years. Paybacks are hell… You might go off with SEIU and consider “Why do we screw our friends, and expect to win?”
Ray spews:
Gregoire up by 20 votes as I type
Jim King spews:
But Benton, Yakima, and mighty Okanogan- which has been at zero for days, but keeps finding votes- have now put Rossi up by 784…
Ray spews:
King and Island reported — Rossi lead at 158. Seems like most of the known outstanding are still in Rossi terriorty.
Jim King spews:
Dino polls 46% in Thurston, 43% in King (of two-party vote) to finish up the night (Franklin out wandering in the wilderness, Grays Harbor still counting) 304 votes to the good. Rapidly approaching manual recount and lawyer territory. Maybe we can just let Brad Owen be Governor…
ralph spews:
Gray harbor recounted. Dino defintely hurt 33 vote margin now.
Mr. Cynical spews:
Brad Owen would be a pretty good governor!
Andrew spews:
Stacey’s only smug when Rossi is up by a few hundred votes. Otherwise, she’s off in her little corner, a sore loser, crying, because she can’t admit that we’re left and she’s wrong.
Miss Stacey – I hate to burst your little bubble, but this election is a free for all. It goes either way. The lead has changed more than five times since November 2nd. Go ahead and keep track.
By the way – Stacey, DH, and people like you – most of the people reading this blog are not sympathetic to your tirades. So if you want to whine, save it for Rosenblog or the Drudge Report. You’ll only get snickered at here. If that suits you – go right ahead. Free speech is free speech. You’d better hope your President’s Patriot Act doesn’t take it away.
Goldy spews:
I encourage people with opposing points of view to post their comments here… it’d be kind of boring if I only got comments from people who agree with me. Plus, I don’t mind a little rhetorical cat fighting now and then.
rudy spews:
Well tomorrow is the day- a visitor was wondering aloud about just a little miscout here and a little miscount there, called it a sly fix. Perhaps, but if so it just exploded in Gray. KOMO did report that several other counties had very high voting, perhaps more batches of over counted ballots. Glad there is a ethnic fellow from King county running the show at Super Court- And Give Greg N. credit- “this is not broward County – all votes will be counted” The world after Florida and OHIO. Thind of Black Precincts in Clevland, one voting machine for over 1,000 voters. Standing in line 7 hours, the the pols close with 150 people in line who are told to go home with cops on site to play enforcer. Stacy, is that a good plan for democracy in action? International observers were united saying the election in South Africa dnd Venezuela are better executed. GO Christine, make Washington pround agin by solving problems as a model for America.
Ray spews:
Let the lawsuits begin!
The repbulicans think of suing as the Gregoire gets closer; the democrats sue when Rossi leads by more.
Hello Florida!
So..let’s skip to the end game…if this goes to superior court, whom will they (s)elect?
Paul Fellows spews:
Right now my count sheet shows Gregoire will come out slightly ahead and there will be a recount. As for the Repugs suing: Let them. They are exercising their “win-at-any-cost”, hardball mentality. Push and manipulate – – – then blame the other side. Good for them! That’s their way of doing business. The Demos got to work, went out and found honest votes. No court will remove that (well maybe the US Supreme Court).
The reason most of the signatures needed to be followed up on, was because a lot of them were compared to much older signatures, on record from when voters were younger. Another reason was that in some cases people now have tremors in their signatures. The courts have always sided on the right of the voter to cast a ballot. I’m confident the court will uphold any effort to verify authentic votes.
Let’s not worry about the Repugs – – – after all Chris Vance has repeatedly stated that this is a Culture War and a Class War – – – he brings it up all the time. Hey, Chris Bring it On! All that counts is a certified win and I think Christine Gregoire will be YOUR next governor.
If I’m wrong, I guess Dino will be rezoning my neighborhood and the developers will be bulldozing my backyard in a matter of weeks!
Andrew spews:
I encourage people with opposing points of view to post their comments here… it’d be kind of boring if I only got comments from people who agree with me. Plus, I don’t mind a little rhetorical cat fighting now and then.
Encouragement is one thing, audience is another. You missed the boat on the second half: “If that suits you – go right ahead. Free speech is free speech. You’d better hope your President’s next Patriot Act doesn’t take it away.”
rudy spews:
One King County lawauit does not break any junical pr political back. If more suits are filed and apeals are fashioned, they on to the Supremes of this fair state. Quick track, just days, pass the appelate judges. Republicans have no case- would be smart to keep quiet and quit acting silly if you aooponet beat you at on the ground old fashioned footwork which you had the comple option to do as well- but didn’t- Would not help in the next cycle, two years to be nicknamed any number of foul things which summarize as voter supression. WHAT gret politicl fun. Had all my friends call today to see if their far left absentees had been counted- batting 100 per cent. Is it true that the White Suprmist group up by Spokane endorsed Rossi? Any one know.
Alex spews:
Dear friends, we need new updated margins of victory (for Rossi) after the data of 7:25:00 PM, i.e. +19 votes for our candidate. We need more that 500 votes to beat Demons attempts to overkill (again!!!) this Election in WA, before a recount. If you’ve got other results, post it. E.G. I see that 1000 votes of King have to be counted; my question is: have they included the 400+ votes given to Demon-rats in “affidavit”??? Please, help Republican Party of WA. Thanks
Gordy spews:
I am not sure about Gray’s Harbor and the other counties usually have to reaudit to ensure there were no double counts as well. However, assuming the Secretary of State’s data is accurate the relatively large number of outstanding votes in Benton and Stevens and the lop sided Rossi votes there plus other small counties lead me to this conlcusion. Rossi will win by about 450 votes, but this is just a guesstimate at best. One thing that makes me happy whomever wins, Reed and his predecessor Ralph Monroe and county election supervisors throughout the state run a pretty tight ship and it will be as fair as possible considering how tight this race was. Both ardent GOPs or Dems depending on the loser will bitch it was not fair, but this is like an umpire trying to call a close play at the plate. Even the phot replays recounts will be questioned.
The concerted effort by Dems to get unsigned ballots signed by the voters made it a bit closer than my earlier guesses. This was a smart move on behalf of their candidate.
However, if it is less than 100 votes between them perhaps the two of them can split the term. Lets be serious for all intents and purposes this is like a soccer match going to penalty kicks. It was a great one.
I knew when I was knocking doors for other candidates in a swing district this one was going to be super close. The other state elections were easy to pick. Kerry would easily win the state, Murray would stomp her opponent and McKenna would get a new job in Olympia. This race I simply was not willing to take bets on.

There’s no middle finger button. But if there was one, you’d get it for that post. Same to Comment by DH— 11/16/04 @ 4:54 pm for that one – you’ve gone too far. I don’t appreciate sliming of my Gregoire Guru friends on the other side… I really don’t.
Speaking of posts, I think David’s going over the one I made with a hyperlink about how mysterious Skagit County is.
Paul spews:
OK Andrew – just saw your comment – you’re right, because I dropped mine in the wrong place – meant to be in “GOP to sue…etc”. Anyway, in the spirit of this conversation, I took a look again at the Sec. of State web site and there are about 2200 outstanding votes between King and Grays Harbor counties. I pulled out the seven counties that Gregoire has carried (see map on Sec. Of State site) and I discovered that if you add up all the others and average the difference between the count for Rossi and Gregoire those counties come out about 50/50. In fact the reporting tonight has confirmed that guess work. This assumes that the Sec. of State’s site is fairly accurate, of course.
On the other hand, the seven Gregoire counties split 56.4% Gregoire and 41.4% Rossi, collectively. So, what I think will happen is that most of the rest of the count for Rossi will be 50/50 giving him no particular advantage. But there sits the 2200 left in King and Grays Harbor, plus a few others in the other five counties and that will be enough to put Christine back in the black! My estimate is 975 or so for Gregoire. After that, Chris Vance can do what he does best. Bitch, bitch, bitch (sorry, I’m doing it again).
Alex spews:
Rossi will win, stupid demon.rat!
Cheryl spews:
Geez. It’s Stacey with an e, so I assume you are a woman. And yet, you revert to misogynistic name-calling — ‘b**tch’ to refer to Gregoire. Hmm. I’m rethinking my previous post. I’m no longer just teasing. You are a complete moron — no, wait, that’s an insult to morons. If anyone out there thinks Gregoire is a leftist, well, you gotta be just to the right of Attilla the Hun to think that. She’s the most centrist D out there. Not that I’m endorsing that. But it’s a hell of a lot better than Dino “anti-choice, anti-gay, pro-big money” Rossi. That guy is a lying piece of pond scum who worked for years — following around from one business to the other — a guy who ripped off the elderly. Nice “mentor,” eh? Ah, forget it. You’re too stupid to learn, or you wouldn’t have made the 4-year-senate term screw up.
Jim King spews:
As opposed to the gal who ran the sorority with the little white pointy-headed robes, yes? And enforced the “No blacks, no Jews” rules.
Goldy spews:
Well, you can’t argue with persuasive, well-reasoned rhetoric like that.
(No, really… you can’t argue with people like that.)
North Bender spews:
I owe much to Gregoire – her incompentence stopped the sexual predator hours from being placed near my city. But I hope she loses – its time for a change. But lets face it, whether it is “newly” found ballots or new votes from the recounts, she has it in the bag.
North Bender spews:
“house”, not hours….
North Bender spews:
Also, in Washington State, the Democrats have gained more than 1000 votes in every recount for the last many years. Adios Dino!
Paul spews:
Geez – it’s kinda hot in here! What’s the count?
-demon.rat
(kinda like that name – thanks)
Goldy spews:
You know, I’m willing to put up with the invective and the name calling and the paranoid fantasies from both sides the aisle. In fact, I encourage it. But I absolutely draw the line at cowardly, unsupported, lies.
Really…? The D’s have gained 1000 votes in every recount? Okay… name just one! Come on… name one!
In 2000, Maria Cantwell’s margin of victory increased by 276 votes after the recount, and according to the Seattle Times, “No statewide races have ever changed as a result of a recount.”
See… that’s how you have an honest debate… by citing your sources. I’ve shown you mine, now you show me yours.
rudy spews:
Gregoire by 1650. Several more counties discovered to have “just a little batch run twice.” Plus the proviionals brought in today by folks with halos who truly went out in the trenches and fought to make more votes count. Recount which will make the folks gathed around the ballots in Florida look like friends prior to prayer meeting. There is no left in the old South that can compare at all with the Northwest- some vestige of machine guns and striking loggers or something. My father was IWW. Loggers died for a clean blanket and one hot meal a day and your own bed in the old time Rossi uber free enterprise world. Chris Vance will be screaming so much that tapes of his silly rantings will be used in Haunted Houses for decades. Rossi will have problems paying his campaign debt- BUT wait, it is John Carlson, Ellen Craswell, Fred Phelps, Senator Val Stevens and Tim Eyman who do some hat passing to bail him out. And the truth comes out about the blanks in his resume.
Gregoire sparks the most action dedicated legislature in state history – streets will be renamed for her by our grandchildren. On to the Cantwell race in two years. Rossi retread time? The new R darling?
Jim King spews:
After the mandatory recount, Dino up by 2- Christine’s folks miss the deadline ro request a further recount…
Mr. Cynical spews:
Just an idea—
Before this thing goes any further…this morning Rossi and Gregoire ought to flip a coin and the loser concedes. The aftermath of protracted recounts and Court challenges will not serve the public interest. Part of the coin flip agreement would be both Party’s working thru all the holes in our process and fixing them so things are better next time. Otherwise, the lawyers and bureaucrats win…and as usual…the public gets screwed!!
Ray spews:
I just look forward to the eventual governor (whether elected or selected) to make a strong case for the unbelievable mandate the people of Washington have given him/her to carry out his/her agenda! The people will have spoken…loud and clear….so get out of the way!
Stacey spews:
Let’s take a look at Gregoire:
1.) She is an attorney. All attorneys are scum. Even a Democrat should be able to admit this.
2.) Her incompetency was well demonstrated while she served as Attorney General. Only a Democrat would see her as a person worthy to govern our state.
3.) I am female, and I still can’t stand her. She IS a bitch. Don’t believe me? Ask anyone who has worked with her as his or her “superior.”
Cheryl, since you don’t even know me, I would like to remind you of the old adage about the pot calling the kettle black. Furthermore, I merely consider the source . . . you’re a Democrat! Poor thing.
Goldy spews:
See guys… now that’s partisanship with a sense of humor. Jim, I hope you stick around after the recount and regularly attempt to disabuse me of my heart-felt beliefs.
Josef spews:
Comment by Stacey— 11/17/04 @ 9:01 am
Your tone leaves a lot to be desired, but I’m a Dinocrat because Gregoire abandoned my party. Just do a Google News Search of Gregoire AND “public records”.
Jim King spews:
Hey, it’s all over- the Rice Krispies went “Snap, Crackle, Rossi” this morning…
It ain’t a sense of humor, it’s having gone over the edge after eight years of the Locke-Eyman co-administration…
Goldy spews:
Ray, the web is not always the best medium for sarcasm. You’re kidding, right?
Ray spews:
Goldy…yes…kidding. Sorry that it didn’t come across.
Bennington spews:
Stacey–“all lawyers are scum,” until they save your butt. And if Gregoire=bitch doesn’t Rossi=son-of-a-bitch?
Rudy–Hey why don’t you start an initiative for Gay Rights–I’ll be one of your first signers. To hell with state government, we have the power to make our own laws!
Everybody–Grays Harbor wouldn’t have made the mistake they did if we had randomly numbered ballots–the double count would have stood out like a sore thumb. Hey, Grays Harbor is my county!
rudy spews:
Thanks Bennington- Six or eight years go that was tried. A group called Hands Off Washington, born to fight off anti gay stuff from Lon Mabon infested Oregon. Worked the state of Wa. with lots of organizing in all counties- model initiative on the topic- wonderful signature drive- FAILED in flames along with two other initiatives including trigger locks on guns. National Riffle Assoc. flooded the state with many millions, pro gay side horrible underfunded in the final weeks-bad defeat. Older conservative gun fans came out in droves, not your gay OK folks.
I worked thousands of hourson the movement those two years, no regrets but when you loose somthing like this where you have invested your soul, it is a bummer.
Several of my friends think Rossi- might be a compassionate c.- might sign a gay rights bill- we shall see. With Dems in conrol of the legislature it will be voted to his desk if he is the Guv.
Bennington spews:
Rudy–like my dear ole mom used to say, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, again.” Look what us women had to go through in order to finally get to vote!
Dave Ross spews:
I can’t belive it Gregoire won and I didn’t, I mean King County did not come through for me but it came for Gregoire. She is a fucking bitch, I mean I invited her to my show, but obviously I could not pull my own weight. Why is gregoire a fucking bitch because she is. She kisses the ass of Paul Berendt, or as better known the crying son of a bitch.
