I just flew in to Spokane (and boy are my arms tired), only to learn that NBC’s Tim Russert has died of a heart attack, at age 59 58.
I’ve got an admittedly sick sense of humor, so I have to admit that a couple not mean, but inappropriate headlines immediately popped into my mind, but it’s times like these that reminds us that all of us, even people whose actions we disagree with, are human beings, and thus mortal. So my condolences to Russert’s family and friends.

Correction — born May 7, 1950 means that he was 58, not 59.
About 4 1/2 months older than I am, so I’m sensitive to such matters.
Condolences to Mr. Russert’s family, and to his colleagues at NBC and throughout the world of political reportage.

Oh Great Mother Rabbit Spirit, why Russert instead of that bet-welshing redneck? I’m just sayin’ … if You’ve gotta take someone, take that dishonorable lying useless piece of shit welsher. I’m not saying I wish that redneck would drop dead — I don’t wish for that at all — all I’m saying is if someone has to go, it ought to be someone more deserving than Russert. This isn’t right. There’s no justice in this world.

Fox Propaganda Channel Draws Fire For Offensive Graphic
From Associated Press:
“NEW YORK (June 13) – Fox News Channel referred to Michelle Obama as ‘Obama’s baby mama’ in a graphic on Wednesday, the latest in a trio of references to the Democratic presidential campaign that have given fuel to network critics.
“The graphic ‘Outraged liberals: Stop picking on Obama’s baby mama’ was flashed during an interview with conservative columnist Michelle Malkin ….”

The term is slang for the unmarried mother of a man’s child.

10 It’s perhaps interesting to note that NBC has maintained an office in Burbank for Maria Schriver. If her husband doesn’t end up in another political office after his term as governor ends, they want her back.

Tim Russert was a good man and a savvy political analyst. He’ll be missed.
My only regret is that he didn’t get to cover the outcome of this truly historic election. He would’ve been in his element 100%.
I’ll have to pour a big 4-OH for Tim tonight.

R.I.P. Tim.
I assume that the Washington Bureau will probably not be the same for NBC News. I am sure in the 5 decades that Meet the Press has been on(or is it 6, not sure), they have had several moderators, but they all have not been the same as Tim Russert. I wonder who they will put in that chair, as they cannot leave it empty for long, especially now.
On a side note, Tim Russert guess starred in the NBC Drama “Homicide, Life on the Street”. They had one detective who shared his last name, so they wrote him into the script for a guest appearance, as Detective Russert’s cousin, Tim!
correctnotright spews:
I didn’t always agree with Russert and his “stupid gotcha” questions – but it is sad news to hear. Russert was less biased than many reporters – but he missed the forest for the trees sometimes – and asked the silly questions instead of the policy questions. Still – sad to hear. Was it a heart attack (Myocardial infarct)?

My guess is that they will have a diagnosis of ventricular tachycardia or V-tach for short. This is the “dead before you hit the floor” heart attack. You have no pulse instantly, no blood flow. Period. Death is swift and merciless.
As some of you know, this is a subject that I know a little about. I have a Medtronic Gem III Internal Cardio Defibrillator (ICD) that rides just above where you place hand during the pledge of allegiance. This type of heart attack is often referred to as “major”. Unless there is a cardio-defibrillator hung on the wall within feet, or you have one in your chest as I do, your chances of survival are infinitesimal.
My heart goes out to his wife and son, who according to MSNBC, are flying back from Italy where they had been celebrating the son’s graduation from Boston University. That flight must be unbearable.
My heart goes out to them. And to Big Russ, his father.

One of the quotes Russert made about dealing with polictical debate and how he was taught:
Of his background as a Democratic political operative, Russert said, “My views are not important.”
“Lawrence Spivak, who founded ‘Meet the Press,’ told me before he died that the job of the host is to learn as much as you can about your guest’s positions and take the other side,” he said in a 2007 interview with Time magazine. “And to do that in a persistent and civil way. And that’s what I try to do every Sunday.”

To HELL with those of you who say he was the left or to the right. His job was to do his research as a journalist and ask the tough questions of everyone, and he did it better than anyone. When I saw Russert on screen I knew that the questions would be real and the answers always revealing, whether from straight talking or dodging. I’m devastated that he’s gone. Coverage of the upcoming campagn, conventions and election will have less heart, content and interest because he is gone. I love you Tim Russert.

As for thinking for myself, well lets compare education and accomplishments. You go first. But here is a hint so you can get your lies in order. I have two degrees, both from an upper echelon PAC 10 school. I was a government employee for over 23 years. I am retired at 51. And that is just the opening salvo.

What an elitist shit you are. You offer no facts, you just have some dumbass emotional argument to hoist your gilded petard upon. Your claim to superiority rests on your……money? How Republican of you. So, those who inherit are always “better”, right? How Protestant of you.
You Sir, will surely not die alone and angry, but happy, and with many other people, just like mommy and Jesus have promised you since you were a wittle boy. You must draw comfort from that. Death is so scary, isn’t it? Why, maybe with all your money, you can live forever. Live the dream. At least you will be rich enough that people will still love you. How special you are.
Two degrees and you still do not have any intellectual argument, just the appeal to emotion. You don’t even do emotional argument better than my twelve year old daughter. I count two jabs to the oedipal target in your pathos. You must have learned at an early age to please mommy above all else.
And BTW, Paris Hilton is 23, and retired. So I guess she is better than both of us, using your scorecard. Oh wait, she still needs to have been a government employee.

On the one hand, the Bush administration was open about their using him to further their lying agenda. In that way, he holds some responsibility for the degree to which the media was complicit in the Iraq fiasco. The fact that he seemed a perfectly pleasant guy to watch on Sunday mornings doesn’t quite balance the ledger. That was true in his life, and hasn’t changed overnight.
As for Puddybud’s contention that the media’s message is shaped by the wage-earning lefties, while the overwhelmingly conservative corporate media owners somehow stand by helplessly only goes to show how gullible some people are.

What you’re seeing is one reason I don’t post much around here anymore. While we expect the folks on the right to be obnoxious, we’ve got some from the far left that cannot abide anyone disagreeing with even the smallest part of their agenda, and relying on insult rather than rational argument. After the Republicans are gone, they’ll be going after most Democrats.
Mr. Russert was no friend of either of those groups. His loyalty was to the truth, even when that truth didn’t fit his political beliefs.
Tim Russert was a class act. From his interviews and comments, uninformed Democrats often thought he was a Republican, while Republicans considered him biased because he was a Democrat.
The reality is that in his interviews, he was a journalist, first, last and always.
There aren’t nearly enough of those left, and he was one of the best.

John @ 56 – AMEN! I totally agree with what you just said! I have noticed some who post here are just as bad as the very same people they slander and accuse of wrongdoing. My parents raised me to be a man. To respect others and to accept the differences between people. The evidence suggests, and I will give you the point that your parents were not failures because you became an asshole of quintessential quality. They were an absolutely unmitigated success in raising you to their, ahem, standard. Feel better now?
As for attending school. My parents helped me pay for my education. To be sure, I would not have been able to go had my parents not hocked themselves to near drowning and had I not worked and paid for over half of my education on my own. I am spoiled? I worked hard, nothing was handed to me. I am, admittedly, an over achiever. I have no idea how I was graced to graduate. I can only tell you that my work ethic comes from my father, who worked two, and, sometimes three jobs to provide for his family.
The proudest day of my fathers life was seeing me cross that stage as the first person in his family to graduate from a four year university. The proudest day of my life was returning to him the money he spent on my education. He accepted the check, against his core principle of providing for your family, to allow me to satisfy my principle of repaying a debt that was long overdue. (He used part of the money to return to London, England and Normandy, France so that he could see the those countries whole again. To visit the graves of his fallen friends, to see the beaches without the destruction and human carnage that he had survived during the war as an Army Ranger).
I know that someone like you would never understand what it is to be honorable. You are sadly mistaken to believe that there is any amount of honor in “admitting” to being an asshole. The only thing positive about your admission is that you do have to admit there is a problem before you can begin to correct it.
I will die knowing I have lived my life honorably. I will not die angry about anything other than having to die. I don’t consider anger productive. Rather it is counter productive, clouding the mind and causing emotional mistakes.
Facts? How can I have facts about the quality of a man and the life he had led? I can only have my personal judgment of how a man acts, how he carries himself and what others have to say about him. Tim Russert, by ALL accounts, to be perfectly clear, without exception, lived his life honorably, honestly and with great love of his family (read Big Russ and Me). That is not an emotional argument, it is just how it is.
Now go sit down with your daughter and tell her how proud you are to be asshole.

It is immaterial that you, asshole, paid them back at your asshole convenience. Are you, asshole, aware how often you, asshole, contradict your asshole self, then excuse your own asshole behavior in the next sentence? You are a fucking joke, asshole.
At least you lost the elitist meme in your last asshole post. I guess you, asshole, have been reading the posts about your asshole self. Not hard to figure out you, asshole are a pleaser. Mom train that into you, asshole?
BTW, you, asshole, mention your own your fathers service in a pathetic attempt to make your asshole self seem heroic for giving the man the money to go to Normandy. You could have paid for his trip, and paid him back for college, and retired at 52.
How about you, asshole? The army will take you, asshole at 51. Heck, they will pretty much take anyone right now. Why with your two degrees from those upper level PAC 10 schools, and that mans man attitude, I bet you, asshole could have the job of your choice in Fallujah or Kandahar.
I did my six, how about you putting your asshole self on the line for once in your life? Oh no, little assholes like you show your patriotism through shopping, and flag pins.
Talks cheap. Walk the walk, asshole. BTW, I noticed Russert never served, and his son doesn’t either. Why should they, when the lesser folk will do it for them? I wonder, if there had been a draft, would Russert have maybe put his career on the line, asked tougher questions, knowing his son’s age put him in line to serve?
No, he would have used his connections to to get little Luke into a sweet National Guard unit. Right next to the Bush twins. And you know I am fucking right about that. No way Big Tim lets little Rusty anywhere near a military unit.
Man, you and Russert, two peas in a pod. Of cowards. The best part is, you, asshole keep writing, proving YOU are a big fucking asshole too, and yet, you are seriously in denial about it.

I can walk circles around you when it comes to service. I VOLUNTEERED, fuckwad. I took my education, put it in my back pocket and back when it was not so popular, fuckface, I enlisted in the Army. I have no need to brag about what I did, unlike you, to make my penis seem larger than it is, fucknut.
The fact is that I am proud of my father’s service and my son’s. You see, I am both the father and son of Army Rangers. Now think hard and see if you can figure it out you cowardly fucking moron. Grenada, not GrAnada by the way, was not Desert Storm, Desert Shield or Panama or Somalia. Now it is checkmate. Elitist is what you are in believing that your path was the more righteous. It wasn’t. It was merely different, fucker. Just as my experience is not better than yours, it was just different. What makes a man better is what he becomes as a result of his experience. Is this flying over your low brow intellect?
I am not sure what set you off, I would imagine that the feelings of never being good enough come rushing back from your childhood, but it is time for you to get over it and move on with your life.
Putting Cheney on Meet The Press to “control the message” was a great idea on the face of it. Problem is that they could not control the questions. Did you ever watch the show? The questions are never softballs, Mr. Asshole. And that is a fact.
By the way, irritating you was a simple affair. You claim not to care what I think or say, but you do. You would not have hauled out all of your considerable ass and placed it on display for everyone to see if the truth wasn’t otherwise.
You have a good day. Enjoy your Father’s Day. You can once again hoist your daughter up onto your lap and on this day when we honor our fathers, you can regale her with stories about your “combat experience” and how you are proud to be an asshole. As for me, in about an hour I will call each of my kids to tell them how much I love them and to thank them for making me proud to be their father. Thank you for your voluntary service to the country – and for your father’s and son’s.
Politics aside, every one who wears the uniform is owed a debt by the rest of us because freedom isn’t free and liberty is secured only by those willing to lay it all down to secure it.
I hope you have a satisfying and enjoyable Fathers’ Day – you deserve it.
My youngest son, a Marine lance corporal, called me from Thailand the other day to catch up and wish me a happy early Fathers’ Day. After completing some ongoing training exercises wtih the Thai military, he’s been the computer and communications chief for a small Marine detachment supporting the three or four air force C-130 flights going into Myanmar daily with relief supplies that are immediately squirreled away by the Junta for re-packaging as gifts from the generals.
He tells me that even in the face of this duplicity, the flights will continue since it’s taken some 20-years to get this level of contact and access inside Burma, and it might take another 20 to open another door, so make hay while the sun shines.
In a small way, crooked Burmese government aside, my boy is helping feed and shelter starving people, a very American thing to do.
He makes me proud to be both a father and to be his father even though his red pickup is still parked in my driveway after a year of waiting for him to send me the title. Oh well…right now, he’s got bigger fish to fry.
And BDMike? Thank you for your service too, though you are wrong that today’s military isn’t representative of the country at large. At no other time in our history has the military been better educated and come from middle and upper income families.
That Luke Russert or the Bush twins don’t serve is irrelevent – I have two sons who do, so I guess we’re living proof that our VOLUNTEER military is still service of choice, not compulsion.
Happy Fathers’ Day to all…even Goldy.

No, the best I can say about Russert is that he ran an entertaining show. Maybe he made his guests sweat a bit but they certainly knew that in advance.
His shortcomings as a journalist are well documented.
http://tinyurl.com/6oagdf
The reality remains is that he was a very well paid beltway player. One of the bigger fish in that aquarium.
I note that you’re still here after saying a few times you’d leave. Who’s the lyin’ jackass? Fuck you.

Tim Russert on Meet the Press, September 19,2002:
“What we do know is that Iraq is harboring terrorists. This was from Jim Hoagland in The Washington Post that George W. Bush said that Abdul Ramini Yazen (ph), who helped bomb the World Trade Center back in 1993, according to Louis Freeh was hiding in his native Iraq. And we’ll show that right there on the screen. That’s an exact quote.
If they’re harboring terrorist, why not go in and get them? ”
Oh yeah, no help from Tim in ginning up a war.
Still waiting for a fact from ONE of your posts, General.
Rick D. spews:
YLB~ Thanks for opening your sewer.
Russert was if anything a closet Democrat but was professional enough to do his job without wearing that designation on his sleeve. He relied on Journalism and facts not emotion like your buttbuddy Olbermann who couldn’t carry Russert’s jockstrap.
The sad fact is that YLB hates anyone that makes more than his minimum wage job and Russert fits into that category. Grow up young one, there is more to life than hatred of others.
YLB spews:
74 – So your word is not good for shit. Thanks. Typical right winger.
Stick around Little Ricky Dumbass. We’re going to be cheering as your ugly corrupt party circles the toilet bowl and you’re flushed with it.
Rick D. spews:
@75 YLB troll
I’ll be celebrating while your party cries itself to sleep on November 5th.
I might even come in here to rub it in….
"Hannah" spews:
@74 – “Closet democrat” oh no he was definately one of us, he worked for democrats up until he got into journalism. The difference was, he always kept an open mind and knew and saw problems on both sides of the spectrum and brought them to light.

The jealousy is dripping from your posts. Time to stand up and be accountable to yourself. I guess because I had some extra brass that makes me less than a real soldier. Let me tell you something, boy-sport-squirt-junior-punk (pick one), I will be happy to meet you anytime and buy you a beer. We can talk about how you have made some severe miscalculations here.
I wonder how much of an attitude problem you were in the service? You have a lot of hostility toward authority. In the business of lead, follow or get out of the way, I am certain you were busy getting out of the way.
Rick D.
Swearing or not swearing is not the measure of a man. Cheney is famous for his and we know he is a man’s man, right? Or how about Nixon another famous cursing fool? LBJ? Or that bastion of straight talk, McSame?
Your comment is without merit. I learned long ago to speak to the lowest common denominator. You sure fit the bill as the lowest. Fuck you!!
Piper,
Thank you. Happy Father’s Day to you. I know the empty of having your child gone, particularly on this day.
"Hannah" spews:
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY TO ALL YOU DADS!
Hope you get to enjoy some relaxing in the sun today!
Rick D. spews:
The difference between Russert and your standard Democrat was that he used his full cranial capabilities…. a rare breed indeed.
"Hannah" spews:
Rick @ 80 – good way to put it, I think Russert was more open minded looking at all positions and didn’t believe in the mantra of “if you have an R behind your name, you are automatically evil and a liar”
Rick D. spews:
My left Foot @ 78~
you just proved how little of a man you are. I’m sure your parent’s would prefer to have raised an adult, but will have to settle with a child like yourself that thinks profanity is just colorful language.
Perhaps one day maturity will come your direction, and I suggest you hop on the train.

Sarcasm and satire are wasted on a dolt. You believe everything to be straight forward and buy any story told. (After all, you believe the surge is working, the economy is fine and that the sun is gonna come out tomorrow).
Could you possibly be any more dense?
Rick D. spews:
Hannah @ 81 ~
I really respected Russert because he put everyone on the hotseat R or D.
We lost more than a journalist in Russert, we lost a professional Journalist that didn’t let his political views distract him from getting to the truth. Olbermann and Matthews should be looking in the mirror and asking themselves if they were half the man that Tim Russert was. The answer would no doubt be a resounding NO!.
Rick D. spews:
@ 83 YLB
Any objective person will tell you that the surge is working. That doesn’t stop people like yourself that hate the troops from saying that it isn’t working.
The American people will make that decision in November when they put John McCain in the white house. Put your big girl panties on and deal with it.
busdrivermike spews:
Russert, to Cheney MTP:
RUSSERT: Let me turn to Iraq. When you were last on this program, September 16, five days after the attack on our country, I asked you whether there was any evidence that Iraq was involved in the attack and you said no.
Since that time, a couple of articles have appeared which I want to get you to react to. The first: The Czech interior minister said today that an Iraqi intelligence officer met with Mohammed Atta, one of the ringleaders of the September 11 terrorists attacks on the United States, just five months before the synchronized hijackings and mass killings were carried out.
And this from James Woolsey, former CIA director: “We know that at Salman Pak, in the southern edge of Baghdad, five different eye witnesses–three Iraqi defectors and two American U.N. inspectors–have said, and now there are aerial photographs to show it, a Boeing 707 that was used for training of hijackers, including non-Iraqi hijackers, trained very secretly to take over airplanes with knives.”
And we have photographs. As you can see that little white speck, and there it is. The plane on the ground in Iraq used to train non-Iraqi hijackers.
Do you still believe there is no evidence that Iraq was involved in September 11?
Yep, hardball questions from Russert, 24/7.
Still waiting for you to quote one fact to support your position that Russert was this great journalist, who spoke truth to power, General.
Oh, and I just quake in my boots over meeting you. You will take one look at me, and start calculating your quickest exit.
Rick D. spews:
Is MLF another phony vet?
Man, these people need a freaking life.
My Left Foot spews:

From busBOY:
Come on, Chappy, all I offered to do was buy you a beer. Why would I calculate my exit, I would be leaving through the same door I entered, on my own two feet. The only man who could intimidate me, and rightly so, was my father. So unless he has returned from the dead and you are claiming to be him (if you are him what was your nickname for me as a child?), how about we just have that beer. It would be much easier on your stress level. And you won’t have to explain how you miscalculated things.
Rickey, Rickey, Rickey,
That all you got?
My Left Foot spews:
Rick Dolt:
I have a life. I am going to shower, get the wife into the car and go see my daughter. Then it is over to my son’s home and a visit with my grandson.
This evening, at about 4:45PM, I am going to sit down with my wife, a hot dog and a beer beer in sunny and warm southern California and watch the Angels and Braves play at Anaheim Stadium.
By the way, for someone who posts as much vitriol as you do here, it would seem you are the one lacking a life and outside interests.
YLB spews:
Any objective person will tell you that the surge is working.
Pfftt.. If it “worked” it was because the Mehdi army stood down.
Not standing down any longer Little Ricky Dumbass.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/.....=hpmostpop
and the Iraqis don’t want 50 U.S. military bases on their soil for the next 100 years. They don’t want trigger-happy mercs on the U.S. taxpayer dollar doing whatever the hell they want unaccountable to Iraqi law.

Keep fantasizing, little Ricky Dumbass
YLB spews:
Who in their fucking right mind appreciates hordes of foreigners with guns on their soil?
Ok we toppled the swarthy bad man with the mustache who fired pistols into the air. All the lazy-boy warriors got their rocks off on that with 24/7 coverage on Faux Noise Channel.
Let’s get the F out now. We can’t afford 12 billion a month being pissed away. Unless of course you’re a right winger on the receiving end of that largess then it’s full steam ahead for the next 100 years.
Rick D. spews:
@ 89
I don’t need your full itinerary since I could care less what your plans are. Thanks for chiming in though dolt.
Puddybud spews:
NWGAL@50: Good try little lady.
Fact: 88% of MSM voted Kerry in 2004.
Fact: 87% of MSM voted Gore in 2000.
Fact: Jack Cafferty, David Gregory, Terry Moran, Claire Shipman and others inject their leftist libtard personal views into the news. Tim Russert didn’t. He was hard on both parties. You jeered when he attacked your party and cheered when he attacked the other party PLAIN & SIMPLE.
Since Rupert Murdoh supported Heilary and he owns Fox News, your argument just went KA-BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM.
Puddybud spews:
BTW Tim Russert was upset when MSNBC was joined with NBC at 30 Rock. Tim Russert went on record about the move and he never liked this idea of mixing news and opinion. He tried keeping his distance from Keith “The Rabid Dog” Olbermann.
“Keith and I have each carved out our roles in this vast information spectrum. What cable emphasizes, more and more, is opinion, or even advocacy. Whether it’s Bill O’Reilly or Keith Olbermann or Lou Dobbs, that’s what that particular platform or venue does. It’s not what I do. What I do is different. I try very, very hard not to come up and say to people, ‘This is what I believe,’ or ‘This is good,’ or ‘This is bad.’ But, rather, ‘This is what I’m learning in my reporting,’ or ‘This is what my analysis shows based on my reporting.’ And as long as I can do that I’m very, very comfortable. And nobody has asked me to do anything but that.”
This is why Cheney went on Meet the Depressed. There would be no spin just factual questions. Try getting that on George Steponallofus or Wolf Blitzer or Bob Let me Bore You Schieffer.
Puddybud spews:
And another thing lefties. Tim Russert had enormous credibility. If you remember (well it’s been over 24 hours) when Tim declared Barack Obama the Democratic nominee during MSNBC’s coverage of the North Carolina and Indiana primaries last month, his words carried much extra weight because the he was generally considered the top broadcast journalist in Washington. Not Wolfie, not Bob Sleeper, and certainly not George Step.
It’s a sad day he died bacause all we have now are left leaning Moonbat!s left on the libtard MSM.

It don’t take balls to ask tough questions. It takes arrogance and a lack of good manners to intentionally try and put every one of your guests on a hot seat. He will always be best remembered as the interrogator with the Down Syndrome look on his face who thought he was more important than anyone he ever interrogated. Tim Russert will be missed by just about every other asshole on the planet!
