Do the Eymanites use that geography vs population ruse in their arguments?
Righties have been using that fallacious argument since 2000 at least. In 2000 they looked at the big swath of red in the middle of the country and reasoned that Bush won the election by a super majority – after all, look at the evidence!! There is hardly any blue at all!! See, America is a “center-right-nation!!! Just look at all that red there in the middle!!
There not the brightest bunch, after all. Look who they have as spokespeople.

That is Tim “Backdoor” Eyman in a NUTshell. What would it take for him to go plague another state? …I’d vote for that.
Eyman feeds on resentment. People who resent their lot in life find it easier to blame it on the government and the “emmessemm”.
So if the majority of people in this State are satisfied with how thing are going, Eyman is generally less successful.
BUT EVEN THEN – if people get complacent and don’t vote, then a small minority can vote in a reactionary initiative.

Mr. Cynically Crazyspews:
Grassroots rarely succeeds. It’s HARD to get something passed without paid signature gatherers. Like initiative 1100 sponsored by CostCo, not “the people”. It may be good or bad, but I1100 isn’t grassroots any more than Tim’s crap. They’re all corporate paid/sponsored initiatives designed to make more money for the corporations. And if the people want to vote for them, whatever, but don’t pretend it’s a movement “of the people”. Bullshit.
The last grassroots attempt was the marijuana legalization initiative here earlier this year, which did NOT get enough signatures…because they WERE grassroots and didn’t use paid signature gathers paid for by some corporate sponsor, but actual citizens. It’s almost impossible not to get on the ballot with paid signature gatherers.

I think we should send him a one-way bus ticket to Oklahoma. He’d be happier there and we’d be happier with him there. A definite win-win situation.

We need to see Eyman for what he is: an initiative pimp; a gun for hire. I think it’s time to fight fire with fire. Every time he promotes one of these things, time, energy and money that would be (MUCH) better spent getting more and better progressives elected is wasted thwarting him.
The progressive community would save a lot of money long-term if we simply launched a campaign to raise enough dough to bribe him into signing a legal document agreeing to leave the state and never come back. If Eyman even gives a shit about his cause de jour, it’s subordinate (hey, a subordinate cause!) to his greed. I think it cost us well over $1 million to defeat his last turd. Let’s raise $2 million and send him to Texas!

1053 is scary, too. Who knows what problems it could cause, well we had the same law in place for two years, but that doesnt matter, its still untested until its 200 years.
1053 is also undemocratic. Afterall, how could it possibly be democratic to send tax increases for a vote to the people. It a simple majority of the PEOPLE vote for the proposed tax increase it will pass, but its still undemocratic because the democrats in the legislature can’t pass the bill on their own.

An Initiative Pimp would work on anything..including stuff they disagree with for the money. Tim’s success is because he fights hard for what he believes in. Tim does his best to make the discussion about the Initiative substance. You KLOWNS keep trying to make it about him. Tim sticks to the issues. you KLOWNS try to mock & ridicule and come off looking like fools. Just like ImamObaMao who ignited the Tea Party Movement.

Chrisspews:
@29 I see your point, but this is different. This initative has to pass by a simple majority of the people, the same simple majority of the people that can accept a tax hike if they can’t get a 2/3 vote in the state legislature. Why is this even an issue, the people already voted for it, but the legislature nullified it. Since the people already approved this, that should be it.

Umm, we have a system of government where we elect people to make decisions by a simple majority in our legislature.
Why should we decide to hamstring our own legislators in a time of fiscal crisis that they need a 2/3 majority to apporve a tax increase?
By the way, fixing tax loopholes on corporations is considered a “tax increase” and that is why the big money corporations are backing this initiative (especially the oil companies).
You need to actually think and understand the HOW and WHY and WHO of how this initiaive is being financed. It has nothing to do with the will of the people and everything to do with coporate profits.
So in a time of fiscal crisis, we will be unable to collect legitimate taxes from corporations that have been given unfair tax breaks. That is why the oil companies are bankrolling this initiative.
That is one of the “intended” consequences of this bill.
33
correctnotrightspews:
@28: It was a lousy law then and it is an even worse law now. Why would we want to bring back a law that protects coporations from paying their fair share of taxes – when the state is already broke?
