It looks like the Northwest Progressive Institute fundraising gala is shaping up to be quite an event. On top of fundraising to NPI can keep doing good work, they always have quite a few notables. And this year is no exception.
I clicked through and checked out the NPI site. The last sentence of its creed begins
No matter how depressing and hopeless circumstances may seem…
I wonder if that was written before the evening of November 8th, or after.

@1 Sounds like Auschwitz graffitti, which fairly describes how thoughtful people (not you, Dumbfuck) feel about our country right now. I mean, Ted Nugent an invited guest at the White House? Really?? If you’re going to invite him, shouldn’t John Hinckley and a couple of fence jumpers be on that guest list, too?
3
Roger Rabbitspews:
You remember Trump’s promise to spend $54 billion more on the military? He lied about that, too.
Roger Rabbit Commentary: I’m only a lettuce eater, but according to my math, Trump’s $603 billion vs. Obama’s $584 billion is a difference of only $19 billion, not $54 billion. Truth be told, it’s politics as usual; like the rest of them, he cares more about deficits than whether our soldiers have bullets.

Thomas Jeffersonspews:
If we spent our military budget on defending the American homeland instead of interventions, the defense budget could be half of what Trump is proposing. The empire has become un-affordable.

On the one hand, you have expert opinion that bases conclusions on thoughtful consideration of evidence; on the other hand, you have dumbfuck opinions based on wishful thinking. You get what you vote for, don’t you, Doc?
“Fed Vice Chairman Stanley Fischer believes changes that President Donald Trump is exploring on bank regulations could pose a serious threat to the financial system.”
A CNBC opinion writer sums up the Trump revolution:

– His signature initiatives are either delayed or dead on arrival.
– The Trump presidency, in its early days, is already looking like a failed effort.
Roger Rabbit Commentary: But wishful thinkers keep on wishing until reality slams them in the ass, won’t they, Doc?
7
Roger Rabbitspews:
Of course, Doctor Dumbfuck is too smart to fall for Trump’s medicine show — after all, he did make it through a Caribbean medical school — and his ass is covered. It wasn’t for no reason that he spent more time studying options trading than medicine.

Roger Rabbitspews:
@4 What a stupid comment.
Point #1: Do you really think we can be safe by hiding behind our borders while Russia flies bombers off our coasts and North Korea’s immature dictator plots to lob ICBMs at us? That kind of thinking was obsolete a century ago.
Point #2: Empire? What empire? Name one U.S. overseas colony. You can’t because we don’t have any. You can call the U.S. a lot of things, but empire isn’t one of them. Global cop? Yes. The world needs one. Would you rather it be us, or Russia, or China?
You’re an idiot.

That’s a naive position. We use a crap ton of oil that comes from the middle east. Even if we pulled out of every country the Navy would still need to protect American tankers in the Gulf as well as merchant ships crossing the Pacific and Atlantic.
Most of our Naval ships can’t spend eternities returning to U.S. ports for resupply and returning to patrol so we need ports and bases throughout the world.
How would you propose leaving the Middle East? Short of “stop using oil” which even in the most ambitions renewable construction boom is decades away, how?

Roger Rabbitspews:
@13 “Even if we pulled out of every country the Navy would still need to protect American tankers in the Gulf as well as merchant ships crossing the Pacific and Atlantic.”
This is too narrow a view. The function of a navy is to keep the sea lanes open for commerce, which includes a lot more than oil from the Middle East, the South China Sea being a case in point, as a third of the world’s seaborne trade goes through it.
What happens to a country that can’t keep its sea routes open? The starving German trench defenders and civilians of 1918 are Exhibit A. The starving Japanese island garrisons of 1943-45 are Exhibit B. The most effective way to bring a nation to its knees is by eliminating its merchant fleet.

I think more likely you’re just an ignoramus who doesn’t know the facts and is too lazy to spend 5 minutes researching it.

“Don’t let President Trump take my dad away” – heartbreaking letter I received from a fifth grader, whose family authorized us to share
Well, the Clinton family authorized sharing of this Chelsea story:
I wrote a letter to President Reagan when I was five to voice my opposition to his visit to the Bitburg cemetery in Germany, because Nazis were buried there. I didn’t think an American president should honor a group of soldiers that included Nazis. President Reagan still went, but at least I had tried in my own small way.
It’s in that book Chelsea published last year. And I bet every word in that letter she wrote to Ronnie was spelled correctly.

Then Reagan made a rather eloquent and lengthy speech about how those Nazi soldiers were victims too.
@ RR @ 17
The Republican purpose is to destroy the Government. They have repeatedly said this in no uncertain terms. Their entire intention is to remove any ability for a common citizen to petition for redress.
It isn’t about allowing business to work, its turning the entire function of Government over to private interests, like drug and weapons manufacturers, private military organizations, oil companies, banks and religions. It doesn’t matter where the money comes from, it could be allowing a Russian Bank mafia to hire an Azerbaijani or South African mercenary company to enforce their law in somewhere like New York or San Francisco. That is ultimately what the Republicans want for the world. Everything privately owned, everyone permanently in debt, and nobody to complain to when the assholes rob you blind or murder your family. They’ll be legalizing rack renting before long and they’ve already been talking for decades about getting rid of the child labor laws. They have already all but eliminated the restrictions on Usury.
26,
Big fucking surprise that Fuckface Von Clownstick has figured out a way to lose regardless of any of the various outcomes.
And that’s why he’s the Pissident of hillbilly America. Pyrrhic victory is all they have left. Torch the entire trailer park just to see your neighbor’s tears.
Here’s my prediction for how Cheeto Jeebus embarrasses himself this time: Congress passes a series of extensions while Trump, and Mulvaney quietly pretend they never offered any ultimatums. Trump leaves for Mar a Lago winless again. Doctor Dumbfuck gets no big tax break, ACA supports are restored, wall not funded, sanc cities go untouched.
28
DeathFroggspews:
@ 27
A Pyrrhic victory is still a victory to them. They’d rather see everything burned to the ground than admit in public that their ideas don’t work in the real world. Dick Cheney was all about destroying everything in sight and the consequences be damned, because his massive personal wealth immunizes and indemnifies him from all of them. The second best thing that can happen to these assholes is to be made so poor they can’t afford a roll of asswipe or a warm room to use it in.
The first being dragged out into the forest and having their hands nailed to a tree or staked out naked next to an ant-hill.
People always miss the obvious when it comes to Conservatives. When they say they want the government out of their lives, they mean their lives, not yours. When they say they want low taxes they mean their taxes being low, not yours. Most of these people pay no taxes whatsoever, or the taxes they do pay are pennies on the Dollar when compared to the rest of the population.
When they say they want religion in school, they mean their religion, not yours. When they make the claim that things such as SNAP, “obamacare”, welfare, social security or medicare are “socialism”, they mean they want that for themselves, not you or your family. Equal protection under the Law? That is a Liberal concept and a product of the Soviet influence on the young or some bullshit that the rubes eat up like it’s the Gospel truth, because they just don’t want to look in a mirror.
And when they want you to be “respectful” of them, you can bet good money that they’re complete fucking assholes to everyone they meet that doesn’t fit their tiny, shallow little perceptions of what right or wrong is supposed to be about. Jesus is a gun-totin’ homicidal maniac with a copy of Atlas Shrugged in one hand and a hangman’s noose in the other. Killing and open robbery are just another couple of methods in their toolbox. That is how the Trumppp made his fortune (as ephemeral and legendary as it seems to be), that is how the Bush’s made theirs, and Rmoney and so many of these pretty people who have spent their lives buying luxuries with their great-grandparents money and having the taxpayers pay for all their food, houses and everything else. Then they go around telling everyone within earshot how they made their money on hard work and the sweat of their brows and blood of their hands.
Meanwhile, the people doing the actual bleeding and sweating are supposed to be happy with the bones and scraps of offal they have doled out to them as a reward for their loyalty and obedience.
