Roger Rabbit Commentary: I’m only a lettuce eater, but according to my math, Trump’s $603 billion vs. Obama’s $584 billion is a difference of only $19 billion, not $54 billion. Truth be told, it’s politics as usual; like the rest of them, he cares more about deficits than whether our soldiers have bullets.
If we spent our military budget on defending the American homeland instead of interventions, the defense budget could be half of what Trump is proposing. The empire has become un-affordable.

That’s a naive position. We use a crap ton of oil that comes from the middle east. Even if we pulled out of every country the Navy would still need to protect American tankers in the Gulf as well as merchant ships crossing the Pacific and Atlantic.
Most of our Naval ships can’t spend eternities returning to U.S. ports for resupply and returning to patrol so we need ports and bases throughout the world.
How would you propose leaving the Middle East? Short of “stop using oil” which even in the most ambitions renewable construction boom is decades away, how?

This is too narrow a view. The function of a navy is to keep the sea lanes open for commerce, which includes a lot more than oil from the Middle East, the South China Sea being a case in point, as a third of the world’s seaborne trade goes through it.
What happens to a country that can’t keep its sea routes open? The starving German trench defenders and civilians of 1918 are Exhibit A. The starving Japanese island garrisons of 1943-45 are Exhibit B. The most effective way to bring a nation to its knees is by eliminating its merchant fleet.

The Republican purpose is to destroy the Government. They have repeatedly said this in no uncertain terms. Their entire intention is to remove any ability for a common citizen to petition for redress.
It isn’t about allowing business to work, its turning the entire function of Government over to private interests, like drug and weapons manufacturers, private military organizations, oil companies, banks and religions. It doesn’t matter where the money comes from, it could be allowing a Russian Bank mafia to hire an Azerbaijani or South African mercenary company to enforce their law in somewhere like New York or San Francisco. That is ultimately what the Republicans want for the world. Everything privately owned, everyone permanently in debt, and nobody to complain to when the assholes rob you blind or murder your family. They’ll be legalizing rack renting before long and they’ve already been talking for decades about getting rid of the child labor laws. They have already all but eliminated the restrictions on Usury.

A Pyrrhic victory is still a victory to them. They’d rather see everything burned to the ground than admit in public that their ideas don’t work in the real world. People always miss the obvious when it comes to Conservatives. When they say they want the government out of their lives, they mean their lives, not yours. When they say they want low taxes they mean their taxes being low, not yours. When they say they want religion in school, they mean their religion, not yours. When they make the claim that things such as SNAP, “obamacare”, welfare, social security or medicare are “socialism”, they mean they want that for themselves, not you or your family. Equal protection under the Law? That is a Liberal concept and a product of the Soviet influence on the young or some bullshit that the rubes eat up like it’s the Gospel truth, because they just don’t want to look in a mirror.
And when they want you to be “respectful” of them, you can bet good money that they’re complete fucking assholes to everyone they meet that doesn’t fit their tiny, shallow little perceptions of what right or wrong is supposed to be about. Jesus is a gun-totin’ homicidal maniac with a copy of Atlas Shrugged in one hand and a hangman’s noose in the other. Killing and open robbery are just another couple of methods in their toolbox. That is how the Trumppp made his fortune (as ephemeral and legendary as it seems to be), that is how the Bush’s made theirs, and Rmoney and so many of these pretty people who have spent their lives buying luxuries with their great-grandparents money and having the taxpayers pay for all their food, houses and everything else. Then they go around telling everyone within earshot how they made their money on hard work and the sweat of their brows and blood of their hands.
Meanwhile, the people doing the actual bleeding and sweating are supposed to be happy with the bones and scraps of offal they have doled out to them as a reward for their loyalty and obedience.
