Expo remains a bright spot for Metro as the MTA’s overall struggles with transit ridership continue. During the 2017 Fiscal Year, which ended in June, Metro’s bus boardings fell 9% from the previous year. Meanwhile, rail boardings increased 6%, with the net gains attributable primarily to Expo. The Gold Line has picked up riders at a more modest pace, while the Blue and Green lines have experienced a concerning trend of rapid ridership loss.

One would expect bus ridership to be lower as the much faster and more reliable rail comes on line. No, rail can’t go everywhere but as someone who used to take a bus from Westwood to DTLA for an internship that trip in the 90s was over 90 minutes, every four blocks stop all the way down Sunset until funny only two stops in Beverley Hills before picking up every few blocks on the other side. The Whilshire corridor buses were even longer. If L.A. traffic patterns are to be believed it’s longer now. The under construction purple line is expected to get that under 30 minutes. As someone who lived in Santa Monica and commuted via car to near downtown for a decade at 70-80 minutes per trip you bet your ass I’d be on that train if I still lived there.

The Blue Line is the oldest in the system and is undergoing an overhaul starting in 2014 and lasting until 2019. The blogger doesn’t mention that so you didn’t know. The Blue line decline could be temporary due to construction. Less than a year ago the Blue Line was still near historical average ridership. I have no evidence to back up that ridership is down due to reconstruction of several stations, service interruptions caused by construction, or any other factor. All I can do is observe a very rapid decline on one line in the system that’s the one undergoing construction
So let’s look at the green line your blogger mentioned. Yep it’s down too but it’s an East/West line where the connection to Downtown is the Blue Line. The timeline of the decline on the greenline lines up pretty much exactly with the blue line.
I’m going to go ahead and say that leaving out the construction challenges facing the users of those two lines is a pretty big miss for a blogger trying to analyze the system as a whole from his digs in Silverlake.
As even your blogger admits the system as a whole is doing quite well. The Red line ridership is up from last year. The Gold Line ridership is up from last year. The Expo is through the roof up. The Purple line connection will get Westwood, Beverley Hills and the Miracle Mile into the system in the next decade.
But sure, point to one little bit of the system that is underperforming over a very short time period and make a sweeping generalization…
And the funny thing is there are probably people who voted against taxing themselves to pay for it all (including the Blue Line Upgrade) who are bitching an moaning about a system they won’t use that carries no one. Just like Dr. Boob.
If you want to have a conversation about how Los Angeles has been screwing the minority communities of South Central, Inglewood, Watts and East Long Beach for my entire life I have the time. I could probably put together a playlist of R&B and HipHop and 60s Chicano rock from people of those communities that would do a pretty good thumbnail sketch of the issue. Sidenote: L.A. is debating a Blue Line Express that would have some trains leaving Long Beach and sailing past many of those stations in areas you mention. So yeah, the money areas are still getting served while others get screwed. You got that part right.

How exactly do they expect to enforce such laws when a woman can simply order a pharmaceutical abortion kit on line and be done with it in less than 72 hrs?
The abortion genie is out of the bottle (and out of the clinic) and has been for some time now. This sort of debate drives enthusiasm and fund raising among older folks who have no real idea how women get abortions these days. That probably explains largely why both sides still engage on these terms. And I’ll admit it’s been fun watching superstitious ignorant Hillbillies have meltdowns over “human life” and “murder factories”. Also gives them all something to do besides scam each other.
But let’s face it, reality moved on years ago. And there’s no turning back that clock. The fact is, the Hillbillies aren’t even trying. And at least of few of them understand that modern abortion is now a quiet personal decision that a woman makes almost entirely on her own without any opportunity for intervention, much less “state permission”.
Oh, and the answer to the question on the Hillbilly RTL protester’s sign from the HuffPo story? An abortion costs about $75. One month’s cable bill. A dinner out. A good bottle of wine. Wanna protect a woman’s right to choose? Buy her an abortion. Order her a kit on line. Put it in a nice box with a note letting her know how much you respect her decision either way.

Jared Kusher’s sister goes to China to sell permanent U.S. residency Visas to Chinese investors in exchange for their purchase of shares and condominiums in the Kushner and Trump properties in New York. The part about her using her family’s connections to the White House as part of her sales pitch comes out in the press, the Chinese investors drop the idea like a hot wonton and run for the hills.
Jared Kushner had gone to Qatar to pitch a similar investment scheme to that Nations foreign investment office that would bail him out from that $2 Billion debt, and they tell him to go pound sand. After he becomes President, Trump goes to Saudi Arabia to pledge continued support for their wars in Yemen and Syria, and apparently makes a deal to sell them several tens of $Billions worth of advanced weaponry at discount prices.
Kushner’s family press agents then dump a bunch of crap into the press about Qatar supporting terrorism, with active support from the White House. Saudi Arabia then blockades Qatar and threatens invasion. Qatar is a NATO ally, and has the largest active US Military base in the Saudi Peninsula.
