The animal rights group PETA is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who’s been shooting blow darts through the heads of pigeons (which, not surprisingly, doesn’t appear to effect the pigeons’ behavior at all).

Abusing animals is no joke. With many it proves to be an indicator of future anti social and sometimes dangerous to humans behavior.
As far as I’m concerned intentionally abusing an animal should be a felony accompanied by a harsh prison sentence.

I have no issue with protecting animals. My problem is with PETA and their ilk. More often than not, they’re total hypocrites and some border on mentally disturbed.

I don’t know. There are too many animals around anyway, and too few people who are really willing to adequately care for them. If PETA is advertising falsely or misleadingly, then let the FTC and State Attorneys General do their jobs.

PAWS couldn’t find enough homes in this area for the pets it took in. I’m not surprised that PETA cannot.
Peta seems to think critters should not be pets. They would rather kill them than let them be in “captivity”. They seem to think it is unnatural….even though the evolution of the domestic dog suggests otherwise.
Prevalent theory is some wolves developed a symbiotic relationship with humans. Those animals that lacked the fear of humans ultimately bred in close contact with humans and became the dogs we know today….sorta. Humans then got involved and you get poodles, etc.
They probably think of it as a late term abortion for animals. Then they don’t have to feel bad about killing.

I have a service dog. She is necessary to my functioning. I have been attacked on the bus by these PETA nuts (or as I call them, the Humaniacs) for making my dog my “slave” several times. Funny thing is my dog is a sporting breed that was bred to work. She loves working. She hates it when I stay home and don’t have much work to do. Idiots.
I worked for a year in an animal shelter. It was a city-county shelter under the police department, and we probably euthanized 90% of the animals we took in. Some were just not adoptable. Others it broke my heart to put to sleep. Mostly I wanted to euthanize the *&^%%*(* owners who didn’t know how to keep or train a pet, or didn’t spay and neuter, and so produced some of the ugliest puppies you have ever seen. Or brought the mother and puppies/kittens in right after birth. Like we had the budget to feed the mom until the babies were weaned. Or dropped their pets out in the country to fend for themselves. Then the farmers would bring these half-wild critters in for us to deal with. And folks, if you are going to just park a dog outside, don’t bother to have one. Dogs are pack creatures, and they like to be with their pack. In most cases that means humans nowadays.
