LOL. Funny, I’ve been engaged in a year-long project to get all my old 80s tunes back via Napster downloads. Today, before seeing this post, it happened to be U2’s The Joshua Tree, which I’m listening to now.

I think I still have Under a Blood Red Sky somewhere in the archives.

Very creative. All that was missing was Cheney on lead guitar, Condoleeza singing back-up and Laura swooning. A real rock star!!

    Shoddy Contractors Kill U.S. Troops

“US Downplayed Electrical Risks in Iraq

“NEW YORK (July 18) — Inferior electrical work by private contractors on U.S. military bases in Iraq is more widespread than the Pentagon has acknowledged, according to a published report.

“A Senate panel investigating the electrocutions of Americans on bases in Iraq was told last week by former KBR Inc. electricians that the contractor used employees with little electrical expertise to supervise subcontractors in Iraq and hired foreigners who couldn’t speak English.

“The Pentagon has said 13 Americans have been electrocuted in Iraq since September 2003. The New York Times reported … that many more people have been injured … by shocks, according to internal Army documents.

“A log compiled this year at one building complex in Baghdad disclosed that soldiers complained of receiving electrical shocks in their living quarters almost daily, the paper reported.

“During just one six-month period — August 2006 through January 2007 — at least 283 electrical fires destroyed or damaged American military facilities in Iraq, including the military’s largest dining hall in the country, according to the documents obtained by the Times.”

    (Quoted under fair use.)

Roger Rabbit Commentary: Waytago wingnut traitors! The families of soldiers killed by crooked no-bid contractors thank you for taking the lives of their children by voting for the corrupt and incompetent Bush administration. Anyone who votes Republican deserves to be jailed for manslaughter.

With Republicans running things, you have such a good chance of getting killed by your own government, who needs the insurgents?

The Iraq war is nothing more or less than a lucrative business opportunity for the GOP’s buddies, and the lives of our soldiers are merely inputs into the GOP’s war profiteering machine.

If you join the military believing you’re serving your country this is what you get for your patriotism from the Republicans. http://tinyurl.com/29w78j

It shoudl be pretty clear to everyone that the president and John McCain are tryng to co-opt Barack Obama’s positions on Iraq and Afghanistan in order to blur the differences between the candidates. Even on what they thought was their top issue for McCain, they think he’ll lose unless they bamboozle America about what he really wants to do.

Too bad the economy is going to drown out even Iraq as an issue to vote on, and on that issue Obama leads McCain 54%-35%.

“And he’s peeling off those dollar bills
    Slapping them down
    One hundred!! Teeooo hundred!!
And I can see those fighter planes
And I can see those fighter planes
Across the mud huts where the children sleep
Through the alleys of a quiet city street”

Just hanging out with my brother in law. His kid saw George Bush on TV and said, “Who’s that daddy?” My brother in law surprised and delighted me when he answered, “That’s the devil son. That’s the devil.” To which the boy said, “So THAT’s the devil – cool!”

This is the kind of training our young people need.
