The Worst You Can Imagine

by Carl Ballard — Wednesday, 7/18/12, 6:55 pm

With Obama continuing to press Romney to release his tax returns, the speculation about what’s in them is running rampant. Maybe it’s something that’s basically reasonable if you’re a business person but tough to explain when we hold you to a higher standard trying to become leader of the free world. Maybe it’s more tax shelters. Maybe there’s evidence of fraud, or something else horrible.

Obviously, my speculation is as much as anyone else’s just speculation. But I think it probably leans to the worse side of the equation. In fact, think of the worst thing you can that might be in those taxes he refuses to release. Mitt Romney would rather you have that in your mind than the knowable, actual truth. Seems like if everything was fine, or if it was just a bit tough to explain, he’d rather have you know the truth.

    Romney’s problem is simple ….

‘splaining how he can make 20- 50% returns on investments in a BLIND trust (as appear to be the case in his IRA) would mean also explaining why some bozo with a much smaller amount to invest can not do the same.

I had a rich friend who never paid taxes. He set up his business so that there was clash flow and capital accretion but no bet income. This is not hard to do if you are in Romney’s class.

Poor fool me, all I have earned is a salary. I once, for a short time, did get corporate style pay .. VERY cool. Basically designed so there were no taxes.

With Obama continuing to press Romney to release his tax returns

Because if Obummer discussed the economy and Fast and Furious and No Jobs Plan and almost $6 Trillion in new debt and the recession ending in October 2009 he’d have a great reerection platform for another 4 years.

What the economy needs right now is some serious government spending. There is little or no inflation, so government debt is not a problem at all. With the rest of the world seeing the dollar as the safest currency we’ve got much more leeway than other countries to do this kind of thing.

Unfortunately Republicans won’t allow that to happen. They’re deficit hawks – but only when they’re not actually running things. When they ARE running things, they spend like drunken sailors.

Seriously, if the Republicans think they can beat Pres. Obama based on his record, then they should run against Pres. Obama and not this fictional Barak X:

You know, Republicans have created this completely fictional president. His name is Barack X and he’s an Islamo-socialist revolutionary who’s coming for your guns, raising your taxes, slashing the military, apologizing to other countries, and taking his cues from Europe or worse yet, Saul Alinsky. And this is how politics has changed; you used to have to run against an actual candidate, but now you just recreate him inside the bubble and run against your new fictional candidate.

… I know conservatives are saying oh Bill, come on Democrats did the same thing to [Bush]. No. Say what you will about the left’s hatred of Bush, at least we were hating on the real guy. We didn’t invent a boogeyman who tanked the economy, took us to war on false pretenses, and tortured prisoners. That was the actual guy.

Keep up the tax return drumbeat. In the meantime, here is what is comin’ back at ya!

The ad, released Thursday morning, sustains what has been a weeklong theme for the Romney campaign. Echoing the Republican candidate’s recent criticism on the stump, the video hammers the president for suggesting this past Friday that business owners owe their success to government.
The video features Jack Gilchrist, owner of Gilchrist Metal Fabricating Company, and shows him getting ready for work at dawn while Obama’s words play in the background.
“If you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. … I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart,” the president says, as the ad shows Gilchrist saying goodbye to his family and heading off to work. “If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”
The ad then cuts to an incredulous Gilchrist, who asks: “My father’s hands didn’t build this company? My hands didn’t build this company? My son’s hands aren’t building this company? Did somebody else take out the loan on my father’s house to finance the equipment? Did somebody else make payroll every week or figure out where it’s coming from?
“President Obama, you’re killing us out here. Through hard work and a little bit of luck, we built this business. Why are you demonizing us for it? We are the solution, not the problem.”
The ad closes with quotes from Romney’s campaign speech in Pennsylvania earlier this week in which he criticized the president’s remarks.

    OUCH!!
Obama’s ideology got the best of him and Obama revealed his truest feelings. What a chump.

What is wrong with you people? And by ‘you people’ I mean liars and Republicans, though I confess the redundancy.

An analysis of the ad you (without link or attribution) trumpet so enthusiastically:

If you watch the video, you’ll see that there’s no indication whatsoever that Obama’s words had been edited. It still would have been misleading even if they had offered such an indication, but not including an edit marker turns the clip from simply misleading into one of the most egregiously dishonest edits I’ve ever seen, right up there with Romney’s first anti-Obama attack ad. [Ed: emphasis mine]

Again, what is wrong with you people? Did you never learn that dishonesty was wrong?

Romney is in panic mode over this – and that’s a good thing. Let’s have more Sununu out there saying Obama doesn’t know how to be an American – and maybe some more ‘creative’ splicing – like this – yeah! that’s the ticket!

The FoxNoise lie machine geared right up and had Hannity and van Sustern and, of course, luffa boy O’Rielly having fainting spells getting the rubes (like ev above) worked into a lather over the latest outrage of the KenyanIndonesianBLACK guy who wants your guns and your sister. (Notice the ‘creative’ chyrons)

Moreover, the Washington Post reiterates the label ‘Deceptive‘ in connection with Romney.

The hits go on and on….

David Horsey, writing from his new position at the L.A. Times, gives what is probably the most respectful explanation of Romney that can be given. He says that it’s not just the tax returns, the problem is that Romney has been hiding from any position which might be used against him, and has been doing so for years. The question is, what kind of President would he be? What values, other than Mormanisma and making money, propel him?

After reviewing Romney’s record of flip-flops on every conceivable isssue, starting from when he first ran for governor in Massachusets, Horsey concluded that Romeny’s sole controlling motivation is: to achieve the presidency, thus fulfilling an ambition first adopted by his father. Everything else is collateral, adjustable, and easily discarded.

Ann Romney, appearing on Good Morning America, said that Romney had released “everyting that you people need” (quoted from memory), and that everyone should just get off Romeny’s back on this issue.

Sounds like Ann Romney is a bit spoiled, and has the same disdain for the lower classes that the lady in the gold Range Rover had when she was quoted waiting for admission into a Romney fund raiser.

How dare the “help” question us?!!! They are incapable of understanding things as complicated as our finances, so there is no reason to reveal any more than they absolutely “need to know” (as determined entirely by us). Now get back to work, peasants, the king is busy preparing for his coronation!
