I’m not sure I agree with Jon that this kind of paranoia doesn’t happen during Republican administrations, but during those times, it generally doesn’t get megaphoned from a major cable news program.

Yes, that’s true, especially since my company has offices in both the U.S. and Europe. Network security officials (possibly in both places) can monitor what I’m doing when I’m connecting to the corporate VPN. I’m not an expert on the legalities here, but as I understand it, the rationale for much of these legal disclaimers is to make sure that they’re covered in case an employee decides to sue over a privacy infringement. Maybe there’s other rationale.
Either way, Beck is absolutely dead wrong that the warning is for the cars.gov site. And furthermore, I find it very hard to believe that they didn’t know they were wrong. What he clicked on to bring up the dialog on the computer he was using doesn’t appear to exist on the actual site. The whole bit looked staged to me (that’s why I asked manoftruth to tell me how to get to that point, because I don’t think you can). Maybe you can tell me where I can encounter that legal disclaimer from the cars.gov site. If you can’t, there’s a very good chance Beck just made that shit up out of his ass.

The NY Times article didn’t cite Olbermann, doesn’t cite his guest Erica Solving (who made the statement you attributed to Olbermann), they didn’t mention MSNBC, they scarcely mentioned the MSM at all. The article is about reporting by blogs! Furthermore, the article confirms that there were real voting anomalies in Florida!

Um. #311 is my post. #310 is the post where Puddy points out that there is, indeed, a DNS entry for esc.gov, which points to the same address as http://www.esc.gov. Perhaps Puddy failed to read the part where “esc.gov” is a domain controlled by two name servers that are on different IP networks.
Any dipshit can look up a domain on a variety of “whois” type servers (I tend to prefer arin myself). What’s missing is Puddy talking about how this connects up with the concept of network DMZ’s and how the claim that Puddy made about network DMZ’s relates to the broader discussion of conspiracy theories. The funny part is where Puddy expects someone else (Another TJ in this particular case) to connect the dots on Puddy’s behalf.
Oh, and Puddy seems to have completely ignored the point I’d made at the end of 315, where I pointed out Puddy’s duplicity for taking Daily Kos to task for omitting the “www.” domain prefix when that domain prefix is not at issue.
Once again, Puddy mistakenly thinks I’ve challenged him on some trivial factual grounds, when, what I’ve really done, is blown his argument completely out of the water using the facts that Puddy has cited.

For instance, a consumer could go to Microsoft’s website. A Microsoft employee could go to a separate website, which would also have the Microsoft logo on it, where they could log in and interact with an internal Microsoft application. That’s the distinction we’re dealing with here. It’s obvious that Beck intentionally blurred that distinction. That’s why I posted this, and it remains true.
