GS spews:
Yes, a two thirds majority should be required for all tax and fee increases in this state.
GS spews:
Especially when a democrat governor is in office!
GS spews:
Especially one who campaigned on never having raised taxes on the people of Washington

“We Don’t Pay Taxes. Only The Little People Pay Taxes” – Leona Helmsley
Since Moonbat!s claim they be the little people, I guess Christine should ask her supporters to pay “dem” taxes.

That doesn’t make any sense, numbnuts. In the future, try to remember that most people don’t put too much stock in the words batty old rich people who leave their fortunes to their dog.
Jane Balogh's dog spews:
What??? dEMOCRATS pay taxes? I think a mosquito would have better luck sucking blood out of a concrete block before you get dEMOCRATS to pay taxes.
Jane Balogh's dog spews:
The best thing about 601 is that is puts you dems in the proper light. By opposing 601 it exposes the left as the blood sucking leeches that they are.
K spews:
I am a Democrat. I pay taxes. Why should 1/3 plus 1 of the electorate be able to overrule the majority. Why do you hate democracy?
YLB spews:
The “proper light” for the “dog” aka DOOFUS is the one shining above his favorite fire hydrant. The better for the rest of the republican dogs to see while they mount the mutt.
hehehehe…
Roger Rabbit spews:
@1 A two-thirds majority should be required to elect Republicans to any public office, too.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@6 I’m pretty sure there’s at least one hundred billion trillion fleas sucking blood out of dogs for every Republican paying taxes.

Because 1/3 plus 1 pay around 90 % of all taxes, even in this state. Why do hate fairness?
Puddybud spews:
K: Swallow this for tax burden.
In 2003, people in the top-earning 10% (AGI of at least $94,981) paid 65.84% of federal individual income taxes. Now see what Rush found for 2004.

Lee must be one of those double taxation types which love the estate tax. The only fair way to tax is consumption (national sales) tax. This ensures that everyone pays a little, but would keep burdensome tax rates in check by usinge market forces.

To: All
Current law requires 2/3’s LEGISLATIVE MAJORITY to raise taxes. It’s not 2/3’s of the voters, it’s 2/3’s of politicians. again, that’s current law. and that current law is 2/3’s for tax increases, not fee increases. I-960 doesn’t expand the 2/3’s to fee increases (the PI got that wrong in Monday’s story and they printed a correction highlighting their error). I-960 does close loopholes in the 2/3’s for tax increases. So I-960 just makes sure they have to follow the law.
The Legislature reimposed and reenacted the 2/3’s for tax increases requirement in 1998 and 2005. So this isn’t the people telling the Legislature to abide by the people’s law; this is the people telling the Legislature to follow the 2/3’s THAT THEY IMPOSED ON THEMSELVES. It’s not too much to ask for the Legislature to abide by their own laws.

The Washington Policy Center has done a three-part series and policy analysis of I-960 and they highlight and correct the many, many mischaracterizations made by opponents — here’s their website:

With all due respect sir/ma’am, you are high as a kite. There is a pleasant smell of BC’s finest horticulture wafting by my window now, and the Northern Lights are not lifting my neighbors as far from reality as you are sitting.
Taxing consumption to the sky should be good. People should be more thrifty and save more money. Consumption taxes will punish spending and increase saving. So what’s not to love?
1) Sales taxes are highly regressive. I would personally LOVE a national sales tax. Why? Because most of what I earn gets saved or spent on mortgages, which would not be subject to tax. Maybe 15% of my income gets spent on consumables. If you count what I take in for rents, the numbers get even better! Wheeee! If you’re higher up on the financial totem pole, the numbers just get better and better. What percentage of Bezos or Gates’ billions are spent on consumables? 1%? Less?
Sucks if you’re on the bottom end of the salary scale and 50% of your take-home is being spent on consumption.
2) Washington State already runs on a primarily sales-tax based revenue model, and from a financial viewpoint, this place is a disaster area! I say this because sales taxes are very sensitive to economic swings. When the economy is doing well, people splurge and buy things. The tax coffers swell up. When the cycle nears the top, liberals are calling to spend the state’s newfound largess on Good Causes (funding schools properly f’instance), while conservatives are saying that it’s the people’s money, and the guvmint should give it back.
Then, as sure as the sun rises and sets, the economy goes down again. People feel less flush, less money is spent on toys, and the tax coffers dry up. All the money to spend on Good Causes is gone, and tax cuts mean the state can’t pay for basic services.
Economic cycles always affect the tax rolls, but the swings are much wider with sales taxes. I’m feeling lazy today, but you can go to the Washington State Department of Finance and see what the intakes are year on year. There’s a graph there for your viewing pleasure.

@17 “Lee must be one of those double taxation types which love the estate tax.”
Actually, much inherited wealth is never taxed at all. No income tax, no inheritance tax, no capital gains tax. Ever hear of “stepped up basis”? This means heirs get the capital gains on assets held by the estate tax-free. No, I didn’t think you knew about that. After all, you’re just a stupid dog.
