All that and more as Blogger TJ from Loaded Orygun joins me for our monthly update on what’s going on south of the (WA) border.
Tune in tonight (or listen to the live stream) and give me a call: 1-877-710-KIRO (5476).
Roger Rabbit spews:
Hey Goldy, instead of teasing Dori’s girlfriend, you should steal her!
klake spews:
Goldy one of my good friends has someting you can talk about tonight. Yep this state run by a bunch of Social Democrats and you can’t agree on how to tear down the AWV.
Right now, there are 3 helicopters hovering above my house.
Seriously.
I have no idea why, except that I live in a shitty neighbourhood, between 2 ghettoes; I’m kind of resigned to it.
God knows, I don’t have enough ammo to truly solve the underlying problem.
Actually, I was amused to recently learn the nickname for police helicopters: “ghetto-birds.”
I think it’s pretty obvious, from my emails, that I’m “liberal” on a lot of issues and “conservative” on a lot of issues.
Perhaps the one I’m most vocal on, on the Right, is the issue of national security, border security, immigration.
So, I have yet another serious, non-snarky, question.
I support the basic mission of the ACLU, which according to its original intent was to safeguard the liberty of Americans from the government and from corporate robber-barons.
However, I dislike a lot their activities and a lot of their issues.
I don’t like a lot of things about a lot of people.
But, I try to take their bad with their good.
Following is the text of an email that I sent today to the ACLU, outlining why I no longer support them.
My question to you two (and you others, CC’ed, if you’d like to try to answer) is this:
When you hear your favourite pundits lie, when you hear politicians from your side deny the truth, when you hear the organizations you support spreading propaganda, do you stand up and say so?
Do you recognize the wrong of it and identify it and speak out about it?
Do you swallow your pride and your honour and keep quiet about it?
Do you have the balls to be honest, both to yourself and to the perpetrators of untruths?
Here’s what I said, when I heard something being done that I disagree with:
Question/comment:
I have defended you and defended you and defended you.
I have denied the lies told about you until I couldn’t breathe anymore.
The thing about removing the crosses from all graves at Arlington National Cemetary…
The thing about removing all references to religion from all governmental buildings…
You have had no greater defender than I, from my co-workers and friends and relatives, when they spouted the Right-Wing spin against you.
No more. Never again.
I won’t tell lies about you, but I’ll no longer speak up for you.
You are the American Civil Liberties Union; not the Mexican Civil Liberties Union.
Your purpose is to prevent the improper prosecution, etc, of ALL persons within our borders, YES, but you receive the bulk of your monies, your donations, from American citizens.
If an illegal alien (and yes, I believe that is the proper term for them), is being improperly treated (cruelly, without some form of administrative review to protect citizens), then you should intercede at least in the realm of human rights.
But the removal of non-citizens from our national boundaries when they have entered or stayed illegally, when they are being employed illegally and taking a job from a citizen, when they may be improperly or fraudulently receiving public assistance, then YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS in defending them over the interests of OUR CITIZENS.
Do you see the recurrent theme?
CITIZENS.
As in US citizens.
As in AMERICAN Civil Liberties Union.
Why aren’t you suing the companies that lay off Americans, in order to employ Central Americans?
Please, stop alienating and ethically gagging mainstream Democrats.
We have been your bulwark in the past.
Without us, you will not survive.
Without you, we will not survive.
Now does he really sound like a happy camper?

Sorry, Mr. Stupid.
I don’t spend every moment on this blog. I have this thing called a “life”. It includes little things like “work” and “family”. I highly recommend that you get one as well.
Now, looking back through the posts, I’m trying to find one of your posts where I “backed up, shut up and hid” from anything that spewed from your cowardly little keyboard.
You did repeat yourself after I answered you the first time. I suppose that I could repeat my earlier post, but it really isn’t necessary.
Let’s see. You stated that I was a “traitor” and “don’t deserve to breath American air” (your post 03/10/2007 at 10:24 am).
You’d better hope that I stay very healthy. I’m a rather obnoxious old SOB, and have been known to really piss some folks off, but most of them aren’t stupid enough to make statements like that on public internet blogs. Death threats are taken seriously.
Of course, I don’t take you very seriously. You’re just a worthless coward.
Still, I’m told that I must love my enemies, so I would offer this prayer. May God bless and keep you, far away from me.
Oh, and about that “life” thing? I really do recommend getting one. Try it, you might like it.

I like the ACLU, because they defend our constitutional rights against scumbags like George W. Bush who don’t respect our right to privacy, would take away our right to free speech, and try to subvert the free press in order to destroy our democracy and establish a fascist dictatorship in America. Freedom is fragile, and can’t be taken for granted; we need organizations like the ACLU to protect our constitutional rights against communists, nazis, Republicans, and other terrorist groups.

Leading the fight is Gunnery Sgt Michael Burghardt, known as “Iron Mike” or just “Gunny”. He is on his third tour in Iraq. He had become a legend in the bomb disposal world after winning the Bronze Star for disabling 64 IEDs and destroying 1,548 pieces of ordnance during his second tour. Then, on September 19, he got blown up. He had arrived at a chaotic scene after a bomb had killed four US soldiers. He chose not to wear the bulky bomb protection suit. “You can’t react to any sniper fire and you get tunnel-vision,” he explains. So, protected by just a helmet and standard-issue flak jacket, he began what bomb disposal officers term “the longest walk”, stepping gingerly into a 5ft deep and 8ft wide crater.
The earth shifted slightly and he saw a Senao base station with a wire leading from it. He cut the wire and used his 7in knife to probe the ground. “I found a piece of red detonating cord between my legs,” he says. “That’s when I knew I was screwed.”
Realizing he had been sucked into a trap, Sgt Burghardt, 35, yelled at everyone to stay back. At that moment, an insurgent, probably watching through binoculars, pressed a button on his mobile phone to detonate the secondary device below the sergeant’s feet. “A chill went up the back of my neck and then the bomb exploded,” he recalls. “As I was in the air I remember thinking, ‘I don’t believe they got me.’ I was just ticked off they were able to do it. Then I was lying on the road, not able to feel anything from the waist down.”
His colleagues cut off his trousers to see how badly he was hurt. None could believe his legs were still there. “My dad’s a Vietnam vet who’s paralyzed from the waist down,” says Sgt Burghardt. “I was lying there thinking I didn’t want to be in a wheelchair next to my dad and for him to see me like that. They started to cut away my pants and I felt a real sharp pain and blood trickling down. Then I wiggled my toes and I thought, ‘Good, I’m in business.’ “As a stretcher was brought over, adrenaline and anger kicked in. “I decided to walk to the helicopter. I wasn’t going to let my team-mates see me being carried away on a stretcher.” He stood and gave the insurgents who had blown him up a one-fingered salute. “I flipped them one. It was like, ‘OK, I lost that round but I’ll be back next week’.”
Copies of a photograph depicting his defiance, taken by Jeff Bundy for the Omaha World-Herald, adorn the walls of homes across America and that of Col John Gronski, the brigade commander in Ramadi, who has hailed the image as an exemplar of the warrior spirit. Sgt Burghardt’s injuries – burns and wounds to his legs and buttocks – kept him off duty for nearly a month and could have earned him a ticket home. But, like his father – who was awarded a Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts for being wounded in action in Vietnam – he stayed in Ramadi to engage in the battle against insurgents who are forever coming up with more ingenious ways of killing Americans.

Yep the Democrats friends are Moa, Pol Pot, Saddam, Stalin, and let’s not forget Osama bin Laden. You all do remember that friendly tall chap you think had a right to kill thousands of Americans. For you ladies with short memories check the link below.
American casualties are up. Iraqi causalities are up. The Bush Administration’s strategy is not working. It’s time for a change in Iraq, and that’s exactly what the legislation I announced yesterday accomplishes.
We can’t stay in Iraq forever. The question becomes whether we continue to follow the President’s failed strategy or whether we work to change course.
That’s why I introduced a joint resolution along with Senators Durbin, Schumer, Murray, Levin, Bayh and Feingold calling for the President to bring stability to Iraq by beginning a phased redeployment of U.S. forces in 120 days with the goal of redeploying most combat forces by the end of March 2008.

“Climate Report Warns of Drought, Disease
“By SETH BORENSTEIN

“WASHINGTON (March 10) – The harmful effects of global warming on daily life are already showing up, and within a couple of decades hundreds of millions of people won’t have enough water, top scientists will say next month at a meeting in Belgium. …
“At the same time, tens of millions of others will be flooded out of their homes each year as the Earth reels from rising temperatures and sea levels, according to portions of a draft of an international scientific report obtained by The Associated Press.
“Tropical diseases like malaria will spread. …. Pests like fire ants will thrive … by 2080, hundreds of millions of people could face starvation, according to the report ….
“The draft document by the authoritative Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change focuses on global warming’s effects and is the second in a series of four being issued this year. Written and reviewed by more than 1,000 scientists from dozens of countries, it still must be edited by government officials. But some scientists said the overall message is not likely to change ….
“The report offers some hope if nations slow and then reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, but it notes that what’s happening now isn’t encouraging.”
Quoted under Fair Use; for complete story and/or copyright info, see http://tinyurl.com/234jsw
Roger Rabbit Commentary: Of course, those 1,000 scientists are wrong, because Redneck says so. Redneck is smarter than all the world’s leading scientists put together. All Redneck has to do is look out and window; he can see it’s not warm outside. So don’t believe anything scientists say — listen to Redneck. But only if you’re as stupid as he is.

Justifying outing covert CIA agents, and destroying their front companies, torturing innocent people, locking up American citizens without the chance to see a lawyer, spending like drunken sailors, lying about intelligence, lying about threats to our nation, cooking intelligence, threatening the press, wiretapping without warrants, paying Al Queda to oppose Hezbollah, ignoring our wounded vets, firing DA’s for not prosecuting innocent Democrats, ignoring drowning Americans, and the list goes on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on.

Roger and Stupid does this fit your behavior styles?
A bully is a person who is habitually cruel to others she deems to be weaker than herself and uses browbeating language and behavior. Although we often think of bullies as big people dominating smaller folks, they are truly little people in every way:
• Their fear of being wrong is demonstrated by being know-it-alls. They are often condescending, patronizing or dismissive.
• Their fear of not being able to meet the needs of others causes them to never want to hear what others think, feel or want.
• Their inability and unwillingness to control their anger or their tongue causes them to make everything your fault as it could not possibly be theirs.
• Paradoxically, their self-esteem is too fragile to handle the possibility of being wrong.
• Their need to control you demonstrates their fear of being unable to control themselves.
• Their desire for power over others comes from the fear of being insignificant.
• Their attempt to boost their own flailing self-esteem is fed by treating others disrespectfully, thoughtlessly and off-handedly.
• Their fear of others causes them to assault character, focus on weaknesses and be the poster children for intimidation.
Unfortunately, these are all manifestations of a poor self-image coupled with lack of self-awareness and people skills.
klake spews:
You have three choices when working with a Roger: quit, get sick or manage yourself with Roger. Here are some tips:
• Redeem your self-esteem and establish strong boundaries. That is the only way to gain the respect from Roger.
• Be friendly, self-confident and calm. Never cower!
• Avoid a clash of wills. Keep things at the information, not the emotional, level.
• Listen well. Agree with him or her…in part…and put forward your views clearly.
• Be strong, firm, courteous and assertive.
• Endeavor to get Roger to consider alternative views while avoiding directly challenging him or her.
• Be well-prepared before you talk with Roger. Know your desired outcome of the conversation and stay focused.
• Be willing to acknowledge when s/he is right. Roger respects your ability to see his/her strengths.

John Barelli spews:
Ok, Klake, I’ll just point out a few of the fallacies in the post.
First, there’s the one Roger pointed out. The ACLU is not trying to remove headstones, cross-shaped or otherwise.
Next, while the ACLU is trying to remove some overtly religious symbols from some government buildings, it is only in certain individual cases.
For example, they have no problem with the statue of Moses on the Supreme Court building, they have no problem with the chapels on military installations, or religious symbols in situations that do not imply government endorsement of a particular religion.
As to defending the rights of immigrants, even illegal immigrants, they are simply showing respect for the Constitution, noting that the Supreme Court has already ruled (in many cases) that immigrants, even illegal immigrants, have the protection of the Constitution.
As to lawsuits against companies relocating jobs to Central America, while they may sympathize, they are not lawyers for the AFL-CIO. Such cases are not their mandate.
That seems to cover all of the concrete complaints in the the post. I doubt that any “mainstream Democrat” had anything to do with the basic post, especially as the main points it makes are false.
As to ignoring most cut-and-paste posts. This is a good example. The information was pretty easy to find, and only took about half an hour to fully verify.
Then another twenty minutes (assuming no computer issues) to compose the response. Way too much time spent on a thirty-second post. Please do your own research. If you take the time to research and compose your own post, I’m willing to take more time to respond.
Otherwise, I’m still looking for that “cut-and-paste responses to right wing talking points” site, although I probably wouldn’t use it. I prefer to do my own thinking.
It’s late, and time for me to go to bed. Apparently Mr. Stupid is over in the next room, as my wife is in there sleeping. Odd, as I don’t keep a computer in the bedroom. I hope he doesn’t hog the covers.

I believe Armitidge may have slipped up giving Novak her identity. Probably not. The CIA told Novak twice not to print her name, and to tell him why would have been a crime. A CIA agent also told the White House on 2 separate occasions, according to testimony, not to reveal her identity.
Just remember what Bill Clinton said “Imagine what would have happened if it was my staff that outed a CIA agent”…..
Let me put it in perspective.
Outing an undercover CIA agent is treason, just as clubbing a baby to death in their crib is murder. In a perfect world, Cheney, and most of his staff would already have been hung, after being convicted of treason. Good thing Scooter lied his ass off.

Facts:
No, in a perfect world, Cheney et al would never have been given the opportunity to do the immense harm they have done.
These are obviously weak souls that could not resist the temptations of money and power, and it should never have been to given them.
In a perfect world, Mr. Cheney would have been a midwestern farmer, chatting with his neighbors while they joked about why they wouldn’t take him hunting.
Even he would probably have been a happier person that way. (Certainly the rest of us would be.)

MUST BE NICE TO MANUFACTURE YOUR OWN REALITY. THE REST OF US IS STUCK WITH DEALING WITH IT.

re 47: Nobody “slips up” and tells a reporter the name of an important undercover intelligence agent.
Bush and Cheney concocted this whole event to punish Wilson for outing them on the Niger Uranium lie.
There is no other scenerio that makes any sense.
GHWB must rue the day he ever conceived of that nitwit son of hos — the one named George W.

Puddybud?
Mr. Armitage was the Deputy Secretary of State, and second in charge of the State Department from 2001 to 2005. He worked for Colin Powell, who in turn worked for President Bush. That would make him one of yours.
It actually appears that his revealing the name of Ms. Plame was simply an error. Many liberals have been willing to give the benefit of the doubt to Mr. Armitage, as it appears that he (unlike much of the administration) actually is at least reasonably honest.
If Mr. Libby had simply been honest and forthcoming, much of this fiasco could have been avoided.
Instead, he took a tragic mistake and turned it into a scandal. He delayed the special prosecutor in his work to find out exactly what happened. Not only does it seem that he lied, but he lied for no reason, almost as if lying is simply second nature to many in the current administration.
It also does not appear that Mr. Cheney and his staff knew that the information had already come out accidentally, when they made their own little leak in retaliation for Mr. Wilson’s blowing the whistle on them.
So their actions would have been criminal, had the information not already been accidentally leaked. They seem to have had every intention of deliberately leaking classified information. Events simply got ahead of them.
Still, the information was already out there, so their intentions, while despicable, are not criminal.
But… lying to the Grand Jury to hide those facts is criminal. Mr. Libby was caught lying to the Grand Jury, trying to cover up a crime that in the end, was not committed.
Wow. Clumsy, stupid and criminal. We haven’t seen this kind of idiocy from the White House since 1974. How did that little “Watergate” affair work out, anyway?
