As I’ve mentioned, I’m currently doing a lot of work with Sensible Washington and the I-1149 campaign. Here’s their latest press release, which I put together:
Last week, Governor Gregoire dealt a huge blow to tens of thousands of Washington’s most vulnerable citizens. By partially vetoing the proposed medical marijuana bill, the governor shut down a slowly emerging industry that was providing safe access to medicine for cancer and AIDS patients, multiple sclerosis sufferers, and those dealing with severe pain. As a result, criminal gangs are now poised to reclaim the market, bringing more violence to our streets, greater dangers to our children, and making it unnecessarily difficult for the sick and terminally ill to get the medicine that their doctors authorize. The governor’s stated reason for leaving us in this mess was that she feared the federal government’s response.
Fifty years ago, the Civil Rights Movement saw the federal government use its power to overturn injustices being carried out by the states. Today, the fight for sane and sensible marijuana laws has turned that dynamic on its head.
You can read the rest here. Sensible Washington is really the only reform effort happening this year, so if you want to see change soon, now’s the time to get involved.
Politically Incorrect spews:
I urge everyone to make a contribution to Sensible Washington, even if all he or she can contribute is only a small amount. This entrenched federal bureaucracy in the form of the DEA, FBI, BATF and other dangerous-to-freedom government entities will fight tooth and nail to maintain their powers over the citizenry.
The only way we are going to fight these monsters is to defeat them through willful state-wide civil disobedience. Helping the cause by donating to Sensible Washington is the first step in ending this government-sponsored campaign of tyranny. Please donate now!

It’s a sad day when street gangs are more dependable than the Governor. Is she trying to make sure that the next Governor is a former Attorney General? I’m a Democrat but Christine isn’t, and I won’t be voting for her again.
What do you expect spews:
This should pass overwhelmingly, but probably won’t. I thought the last initiative to get the state out of running actual storefronts selling liquor was a no brainer. The liberals liked it in King county, the rural Republicans supposedly hate NOTHING more than big governments, especially when it interferes with private for profit business (in regulation or in this case outright banning private companies from selling liquor). But to my SHOCK, the small government free market conservatives voted in droves to keep the state running retail stores. Go figure.
Similarly, who isn’t for this initiative? The liberals supposedly love their pot (and why not). The conservatives are for states rights, don’t like the fed telling states what to do, they’re supposedly about “personal freedom” and “individual responsibility” and aren’t fans of “the government” telling us how to live and what we can do.
So who’s voting AGAINST this and why? On magic/superstition? There is NO moral/scientific argument POSSIBLE why you let cancer causing cigarettes and hard liquor stay legal, both orders of magnitude MORE harmful than pot. If you believe pot should be illegal you MUST fight to make cigarettes and vodka illegal or you’re full of shit.

Apparently, there was a small protest of the recent marijuana dispensary raids in Spokane.

What do you expect at 3,
While conservatives often say they want smaller government, history has really proven them wrong. They want a large government to enforce their conservative views of morality. Having the state run liquor sales seems to fall under that umbrella, at least somewhat, given that many Prohibitionists were conservative.
The religious right is against big government unless it’s a question of Christianity. I believe they would use government power to enforce Christianity as our country’s national religion. I heard someone on John Stossel’s show refer to these type of people who, because God doesn’t appear on TV, would be happy to speak for God. Huckabee comes to mind as this type of Christian.
Yep, the conservatives are against big government until it comes to something that’s important to them. Then they want big government to intervene to support the conservative agenda.
