From The Other Side:
I feel bad for the people of Yakima. I can’t believe that they have to choose between Jim Clements and Curtis King. The Yakima Herald did a rundown of yesterday’s debate.
King lashed out at Clements for expanding health care coverage for kids. Then, he criticized Clements for making it easier for public schools to raise money.
While King is a cold hearted punk, Clements has his drawbacks. He totally blows it while pandering to the local GOP base with this one:
During a discussion on illegal immigration, Clements complained that the suspect in the recent abduction and murder of a 12-year-old Tacoma girl was a noncitizen with a criminal record who should have been “sent home” with Mexican president Vicente Fox following his historic visit to Yakima last year.
The suspect, however, is from Thailand.
Nice! Somebody get a map for the “porch dog.”

Gee Will, I’m just shocked that you even acknowledged that there is a whole other side of the State. After all, pretentious Seattle is the center of the fucking universe right?!
Roger Rabbit spews:
Are you referring to the side that has 20% of the state’s population and pays 15% of its taxes?
Roger Rabbit spews:
I don’t see why Seattle SHOULDN’T be the center of the state’s politics. King County has a third of the state’s population, and Seattle taxpayers support roads and schools all over the state. A majority of the state’s population live in just three counties — King, Pierce, and Snohomish — so why should a few hicks in places like Dayton or Prosser think they have a right to run this state? Screw that, Washington is a democracy where the majority rules. If you don’t like democracy, move to North Korea.
Mark1 spews:
@3 Rodent,
As usual, your little mind does’nt see the big picture. I could sit here and try to explain things to you, but I have no training on how to educate those who quite obviously took the short bus. May I suggest post high school education? You might even be able to get the State to pay for it, after all you’re certainly an expert on gov’t cheese. Good luck to you Rodent.
Jimmy spews:
Ya know, that is such utter bullshit (excuse the cow reference) and completely opposite of progressive values. It’s why I rarely read HA comment threads but since this one dealt with my side of the state I took a peek. Am I suprised? Not at all.
East siders have done much for Democratic politics and fought back vigorously against issues like I-912 and sported a candidate even the west side might have liked in Peter Goldmark. Of which put whole pressure on the republican bullshit machine in this state that even Rossi is still too chickenshit to announce his candidacy. Meanwhile, you over there have folks like Adam Kline who persist in reminding swing voters that there are bat-shit-crazy liberals out there who would like to close off every piece of public land for their private hike.
Here in the Tri-Cities, we have some of the best schools in the state and that is hardly thanks to west side dollars. We’ve had our trials but when push comes to shove, these seemingly right wing nut cases around here vote for those levy’s. Even our libraries get public support at the polls.
So when we hear jackass shit like that, many of us wonder if the west side is more like North Korea. Kind of a head scratcher huh?
I love the west side. I’ll support most any infrastructure investment in the Puget Sound because I want our biggest, and coolest city to not become a hell hole. It is OUR states great city and just because I live in my little berg doesn’t mean I don’t have a vested interest.
Bottom line, your divisive language isn’t appreciated. Start thinking progressively… you know… we are all in this together.
As for our two Yakima nuts as reported from theotherside.net, yeah, we got a few of those. But the sooner progressive minds in this state start thinking collectively, the less of them we will have.
That will be 2 cents please…

Dayton’s actually a pretty nice little town.
If the D’s ran a good Kitchen Table Democrat and made winning in places like Yakima a real priority they could probably win. At the very least they’d give the R’s a good scare and force them to spend money defending a traditionally safe seat (alway a good idea!). State senator Derek Kilmer and his last campaign manager Josh McDonald can show ’em how it’s done.
There are a lot of working class latinos in Yakima and Toppinish that want to send their kids to college…
Jimmy spews:
Dayton is a great town. That is also where our fantastic little ski area is (Bluewood… some of the best, lightest dry snow falls in the area). I don’t know if Bill Grant’s district is there but you are right. Kitchen Table Dem is the word. Good folk watching out for the good folks. Someone you could hang out at that little sports bar in Dayton with.
chadt spews:
Nice to see you talking to Roger about minds, Mark.
Any luck yet at finding yours?
I don’t know how we’d know…..

Perfect!

Right wing extremism is common fare in Yakima.However.if you even offend in the least against most of the hard right, you will here screams of protestation.
On Yakima’s tlak radio show on KIT,they had a former Pakistan Muslim, who allegedly converted to Christianity.
Talk show host Mike Bastinelli,in forming a question actually said (almost verbatum}the vast majorty of muslims are radical.then he modified his statement; (still wacko exteme)saying a large portion of muslims are radicals. The former muslim claims that Bastinelli wasw not wrong in his characterization. These radical comments are par for the course,in some of the views of the talk show hosts,as well as KIT’s listeners.

Anyone who gives the middle finger to our current state guvmint is an American patriot. We need more Yakimas.
michael spews:
@11
If it weren’t for our current state (and federal) guvmint’s habit of externalizing costs, subsidizing water, power and road construction and giving tax breaks (Pierce and King Counties are picking up their bills) half of Yakima would be unemployed.
Yakima giving the middle finger to, “to our current state guvmint”is like a heroin addict giving the finger to his dealer.
chadt spews:
You’ll have to forgive Dan. He left his mind in Cle Elum.
We wish he’d stayed there with it.

Bullshit! Yakima would have just as may or more jobs if the current guvmint went away. The town that would loose would be Olympia, which wouldn’t be such a bad idea. The guvmint does not create jobs, the people and private enterprise create jobs.
Dan Rather spews:
If guvmint created jobs then the USSR would have been a superpower second too none. hehehehe
michael spews:
@!3 Actually, he sounds more Omak. A lot of the WSDOT guys that work on Snoqualmie Pass live in Cle Elum, so they tend to be more pro guvmint’.

Mark @17
So you want to prove that yours is bigger than mine?
How refreshingly pubescent…
I decline, in fear and trembling, etc., etc.
Don Joe spews:
The comment @ 15 is a classic example of the wingnut’s inability to construct a coherent argument. Ostensibly, the USSR failed, because the government there created all the jobs, but this means that government doesn’t create jobs.
Isn’t it amazing how reality fails to pierce the wingnut’s ideological veil?
thor spews:
The sad thing about the Yakima race for state Senate is that the porch dog is the most reasonable candidate in the race.
I hope the porch dog beats back this challenge from the right. Even if he messes up once in a while he’s good at breaking up the standard la la la banter that typifies Olympia, on the left and the right.
The guy can be funny. That’s worth something.
