The entity that published the discredited Steele dossier begins to pay the price. This is the prologue:
BuzzFeed Slashing Employee Pay Amid the Coronavirus Crisis
Staffers in the lowest bracket—which includes anyone making under $65,000 annually—would experience a five-percent reduction, while those making between $65,000-$90,000 would experience a seven-percent cut. Other staff would take nearly a 10-percent pay cut, while executives would take between 14-to-25-percent in pay reduction.
CEO Jonah Peretti confirmed in a note to staff that “I will not be taking a salary until we are on the other side of this crisis.”
Peretti added in the memo that the company was attempting to stave off layoffs by implementing the salary cut, limiting hiring and travel, and reducing real estate costs.
It will get worse. And so it should.

@godwinhaspews:
Oh, look, The Fucking Moron II @ 10 has a daily gotcha!
Someone with some common sense might notice that if the administration deliberately decided not to use the playbook, then the playbook was not “ignored”.
Someone with third-grade reading level comprehension might have caught this:
An NSC official confirmed the existence of the playbook but dismissed its value. “We are aware of the document, although it’s quite dated and has been superseded by strategic and operational biodefense policies published since,” the official said. “The plan we are executing now is a better fit, more detailed, and applies the relevant lessons learned from the playbook and the most recent Ebola epidemic in the [Democratic Republic of the Congo] to COVID-19.”
A health department spokesperson also said that the NSC playbook was not part of the current coronavirus strategy. “The HHS COVID-19 response was informed by more recent plans such as the foundation of the National Biodefense Strategy (2018), Biological Incident Annex (2017),and panCAP (2018) among other key plans provided by the CDC, White House Task Force, FEMA, and other key federal departments and agencies,” the spokesperson said.
Now, The Fucking Moron II is correct that color-coded alert levels have not been part of the administration’s response. Do y’all libbies recall accusing the GWB43 administration of falsely elevating risk levels to raise public fear in order to achieve political advantage? ’cause I still do. And that was when Bushitler, and not Orange Man Bad, was running things. The accusations would be even worse today.

@godwinhaspews:
I’d like to take an opportunity to give Bernie some credit.
Yesterday he forced a few GOP Senate holdouts to cave and permit the bill to be passed as written.
The credit Bernie deserves is that the burden on red state employers who may find that they can’t rehire people who have been “laid off” in order to take advantage of generous benefits the bill provides is due in no small part to the low minimum wage in more than a few red states.
That having been said, the combined benefits some will receive could reach $24/hr in some places, and the senators are right to worry that too many people will sit around like Roger Dumbfuck Rabbit slovenly fat fucks and not come back to work when needed.
Plenty for both sides to think about. Bernie did well, and I have no problem congratulating him, ’cause when the bill comes due it will be YLB’s kids paying it, not me.

There are the masks that Obama had 7 years to replace and that Trump has had 3 years to replace but did not. There is de Blasio’s behavior (and, to be fair, there is Gavin Newsom’s behavior, which is underreported but probably has saved countless Bay Area lives – good on him). There is hesitation on the part of numerous leaders to hurt people economically. There is eagerness to hurt the opposition politically, and on that note, when Trump in early February spoke of restricting travel from certain areas, he was criticized for doing so by…
…well, by who, The Fucking Moron II? By your side.
All told, both sides of government have agreed to throw the nation into an immediate and severe recession in order to protect public health.

On March 5, Mayor de Blasio says that coronavirus fears should not keep New Yorkers off the subway, riding from Fulton Street to High Street in a public press attempt to demonstrate the safety of the transportation method.[14]
…
Also on March 6, an article appeared in the New York Post stating that while Mayor de Blasio assigned responsibility for the lack of N95 masks and other PPE supplies to the federal government, the city never ordered the supplies until that date.[18]
…
On March 13, all public schools in Herkimer County announced they, too, would close until April 14. The county B.O.C.E.S. program and all its participating school districts’ superintendents met and unanimously voted for the decision less than a day after the first confirmed case had been announced in the county.[52][53] That day, pressure from the teachers union (reported as “furious” about the schools remaining opened) and some city council members, was mounting on the Mayor of New York City to close schools. De Blasio stated that he will keep the schools open, citing the need for meal programs to continue and child care to continue, Los Angeles and Chicago has closed their schools at the end of the prior week.[54]
I’m just getting started, The Fucking Moron II.
On March 7 Gov. Cuomo declared a state of emergency. Here’s de Blasio on March 14th:

Got it, The Fucking Moron II? On THE TENTH DAY after Cuomo declared a state of emergency, de Blasio got around to closing NYC bars. Let that sink in.

China and the WHO’s chief: Hold them both accountable for pandemic
Tedros was elected to his position with the WHO in 2017, despite the fact that he was not trained as a medical doctor and had no global health management experience. A former minister of health and minister of foreign affairs for Ethiopia, Tedros is an executive member of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) political party, which came to power through a struggle in 1991 and has been listed as a perpetrator in the Global Terrorism Database. After he became the WHO’s chief, critics questioned Tedros’s attempt to appoint then-Zimbabwe dictator Robert Mugabe as a WHO goodwill ambassador.
The coronavirus pandemic has shown that Tedros is not fit to lead the WHO. Because of his leadership, the world may have missed a critical window to halt the pandemic or mitigate its virulence. The world is now battling rising infections and many countries have imposed restrictions. As leader of the WHO, Tedros should be held accountable for his role in mismanaging efforts to control the spread of the virus.
We’re one spew from The Fucking Moron II referring to the disease as “the Republican virus”.

YLB, if buybacks are curtailed (and I am not arguing that this is a bad idea), what will corporations do with excess cash?
Pelosi already tried to force them to pay $15 minimum wages and that failed. So don’t give “pay higher wages” as a response because you’ve tried that for years and have not succeeded at the federal level.
Companies could:
1. Hoard cash. Is it good for the economy, letting Apple and Berkshire Hathaway do that? What about if every other company does the same thing?
2. Increase dividends.
3. Acquire smaller companies. Is this really what you want? Less competition, big fish eating little fish at a faster pace?
4. Spend more on R&D. Well, OK. But what’s the purpose of that? To increase earnings. Which means more cash.
5. Pay down debt. OK, but that harms the bond market by reducing demand, hurting returns to investors dependent on income. And what about companies with little debt? And what about Apple, which sells debt instruments even while it sits on that huge pile of cash?
My point, YLB, is that preventing buybacks is nothing close to a simple solution for what you perceive as a problem.

66,
At the same time they could have advised people to begin making their own. Frankly even a simple scarf or bandanna is going to be significantly more effective than nothing at all.
For healthcare professionals, I think the problems was multi-fold, at least where trailerbilly Murikans and Trumpalos are concerned. Most of these people would have immediately sought to buy up all available approved masks and then begin price gouging their neighbors, depleting stocks available for healthcare and essential first responders. Then, ignorantly assuming that their motocross face masks render them invulnerable, they would have ignored stay-at-home orders and separation protocols and resumed their normal daily routine of beer bong parties and sucking $1s from the dank cootches of aging strippers.
Healthcare professionals have more first hand experience with Republicans than the rest of us civilized people. Every single day, in every ER and urgent care all across this great land they watch in silent resignation as a steady parade of FREEEDUMB loving klownsurvative Republicans passes by having blown off a digit or toe or lit himself on fire washing car parts in gasoline. That sort of intimate familiarity tends to breed pesimism.

The future inside Teh Orange Event Horizon will be filled with such ironies.
For example, given the dreadful math that lies at the nexus of CPACvirus and Teh Konimee, your beloved RapeHero, though he is too dumb to see it yet, will soon be faced with a miserable Hobson’s choice: he can either bend the knee to Speaker Pelosi and her Birthday Wish List, or he can watch the markets fall again, whether because of extended shut downs or the growing piles of bodies. Watch as Game Of Thrones creator Dan Weiss, Tom Morello of Audioslave/Rage Against The Machine, Scott Ian of Anthrax, Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme, Brad Paisley, and Game Of Thrones composer Ramin Djawadi shred on the all-new Sigil Collection Guitars from The Fender Custom Shop.
Brad Paisley seemed out of place. Like in the Allstate commercials.

At 10:30 am the number of US dead at the hands of the Trump virus was at 1089.
At 2:00 pm the number is at 1186.
Wondering what the daily death toll needs to be before the threat becomes real enough for Trumpalos? The US will be at a few hundred today for sure. By next week when that daily number is over 1000 will that do it? Will a few thousand a day do it? Ten thousand?
Staying indoors hasn’t somehow magically bought us resistance or immunity to the virus. It has only limited contact transmission. Announcing that BEACH WEEK BEGINS ON EASTER will only create a massive spike in contact transmission leading inevitably to a massive spike in TRUMP DEATH a month later.
84
Roger Rabbitspews:
Not hard to figure out where people are most likely to die in droves.
“The decision to forgo an increase in state Medicaid programs, an ideological resistance borne of fiscal conservatism in Republican-controlled state legislatures, has left nearly 5 million people across the country without access to health care coverage and meant states turned down billions of federal dollars that would have come with the expansion.”
@83 True to form, Trump is telling people what they want to hear, not what health experts advise. And, unfortunately, the dumbfuck element listens to him. The last time stupid people blindly followed a lying demagogue, this is what their cities looked like afterward:

TIME’S UP SAID IT COULD NOT FUND A #METOO ALLEGATION AGAINST JOE BIDEN, CITING ITS NONPROFIT STATUS AND HIS PRESIDENTIAL RUN
Ruling out federal candidates marks as off-limits any member of Congress running for reelection, as well as President Donald Trump. Ellen Aprill, a professor of tax law at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, said that Time’s Up’s analysis is too conservative, and the group wouldn’t be putting its tax-exempt status at risk by taking a case involving a candidate for federal office as long as it followed its standard criteria for taking on cases. “As a legal matter, if the group is clear regarding the criteria used as to whom it is taking to court, show that these are long-established neutral criteria, and they are being applied to individuals completely independent of their running for office, it would not be a violation of tax law. Groups are allowed to continue to do what they have always done,” she said.
The public relations firm that works on behalf of the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund is SKDKnickerbocker, whose managing director, Anita Dunn, is the top adviser to Biden’s presidential campaign. A spokesperson for Biden declined to comment. The SKDK spokesperson assigned to Time’s Up referred questions back to the NWLC.

C’mon, man.
“We were alone and it was the strangest thing,” she said. “There was no like exchange really. He just had me up against the wall.”
Reade went on to say that she was wearing a business skirt with no stockings because it was hot at the time. While up against the wall, Reade says Biden’s “hands were on me and underneath my clothes.”
“He went down my skirt but then up inside it and he penetrated me with his fingers,” Reade emotionally continued.
Reade also said Biden was kissing her and saying multiple things to her. She remembered a couple of the comments.
“I remember him saying first, like as he was doing it, ‘Do you want to go somewhere else,’” she said. “And then him saying to me when I pulled away, he got finished doing what he was doing, and I kind of just pulled back and he said, ‘Come on man, I heard you liked me.’

New info from the WHO center in Hong Kong and from Harvard School of Public Health:
Wuhan case fatality risk was 1.4%. Published in Nature.
Using public and published information, we estimate that the overall symptomatic case fatality risk (the probability of dying
after developing symptoms) of COVID-19 in Wuhan was
1.4% (0.9–2.1%), which is substantially lower than both the
corresponding crude or naïve confirmed case fatality risk
(2,169/48,557 = 4.5%) and the approximator1
of deaths/
deaths + recoveries (2,169/2,169 + 17,572 = 11%) as of 29
February 2020.
You’re a lot more likely to die if you’re older than 59, and a little less likely to die if you’re younger than 30.
But Packwood was caught in a web of his own dumbfounding (if exaggerated) words in the sexed-up diary entries. He boasted of “22 staff members I’d made love to and probably 75 others I’ve had a passionate relationship with,” of copulation on his office rug with “a very sexy woman,” and of sympathy sex with a lonely hearted staffer as an act of “Christian duty.”
In one of his final entries, Packwood acknowledged “perhaps overeagerly kissing women.”

He truly doesn’t have original thoughts of his own; he’s just a hack troll who puts a slightly embellished spin on the nonsense spit out by the r/w bullshit factories. Same old meatballs, though. The dumbfuck can’t pitch.
@115 Some people have more capacity for learning and adapting to evolving circumstances than others. Here’s your guy two days ago:
” … Trump said Tuesday he wants the country back to business by April 12, Easter Sunday, even though his own public health officials have warned that the outbreak will get worse. ‘You’ll have packed churches all over our country,’ he said in an interview on Fox News. ‘I think it would be a beautiful time. And it’s just about the timeline that I think is right.'” — Trump, March 24, 2020
And today, he’s pressing ahead with “new guidelines” for social distancing — against the advice of every responsible voice out there.
But Doctor Dumbfuck? Not a peep. Even though he claims to be a doctor, the only voice you’ll hear from him is that of a bleating sheep regurgitating Trumpian talking points.
What’s the point of me echoing something someone else writes?
No point to me being here unless it’s to provide another perspective.

Roger Rabbitspews:
“Democratic and Republican leaders are scrambling members of Congress back to Washington late Thursday night because they suddenly believe the $2 trillion economic relief package might not pass by the voice vote planned for Friday and could be delayed if at least 216 members don’t show up to vote on the floor.
“Members are now racing to get back to D.C. by Friday morning — in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic — because leaders fear at least one member, likely Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., will demand a recorded vote.”

Since I’m encouraging New Yorkers to go on with your lives + get out on the town despite Coronavirus, I thought I would……
I’m not here to defend DeBlasio – after all I have, here, criticized the Mayor.
But to put your stupid little comment in perspective, March 2nd, was only one day after the first known confirmed case of the virus in NYC….maybe that’s why the Mayor responded the way he did? Put that into context Boob. Also, put the timing of the promised 2 Million test kits that were supposed to arrive around the Country? Words are expressed differently, at different times of when they occur. After all, it was a big Hoax that was going on.
Secondly, by March 16th or earlier, there was definitely a noticeable reduction of people on the streets of NYC. People were already social distancing, but not all. Remember the amount of people and tourists that are in this city, not everyone is going to comply or do what they should be doing with respect to being the right thing. By March 16th it started to feel like a ghost town, all be it with still many out doing the “essential” stuff like shopping for food. Sure with 7M People, even if 1/10 of 1 percent weren’t doing the right thing, that is 70,000 people. 70,000 people crammed into say 5 square miles, makes the whole city look like nobody cared. The only one that truly didn’t give a shit was the fat ass in the Whitehouse – his re-election is much too important for his baby daughter Ivanka.
The lack of leadership that came from Washington and the White House is appalling to say the least and a bunch of lies. Just imagine if you had a person in the White House who didn’t look at cities, and in particularly NYC, with disdain and revengeful hatefulness. Just imagine how much different the situation would be.

“With few representatives in Washington this week as the outbreak tears across the country, House leaders hoped to approve the legislation quickly Friday by voice vote — which simply decides whether shouted yeas or nays from members present are louder. But Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., said he plans to force a typical recorded vote, which could hold up passage for hours as the House needs a quorum of 216 representatives present.
“In a series of tweets announcing his plan to request a full vote, Massie argued the unprecedented rescue measure spends too much taxpayer money, criticizing Democrats for pushing for changes this week rather than approving an earlier version of the legislation.”
To wit:
“@Rep. Thomas Massie I swore an oath to uphold the constitution, and I take that oath seriously. In a few moments I will request a vote on the CARES Act which means members of Congress will vote on it by pushing ‘yes’ or ‘no’ or ‘present.'”
He didn’t “uphold the constitution” [sic] when he voted against the articles of impeachment against Trump. Massie can’t distinguish between the GOP partisan agenda and the Constitution; to him, they’re one and the same. Like Doctor Dumbfuck, he’s a partisan hack without any independent judgment.

Italy today reported 5,986 newly confirmed cases, boosting its overall total to 47,021, according to the health ministry. It also reported 627 deaths, putting the fatality count at 4,031.
Italian officials announced today that the military will be called in to help enforce the lockdown in Lombardy, the country’s most-affected hot spot, according to a CNN report that also said intensive care unit patients are being sent to other regions and that a field hospital will be built in Bergamo to handle some of the overflow. Anyone know if Covid-19 can be transmitted through blogs? I’m not trying to start a rumor; I’m only concerned he might be uniquely contagious.
Ten days ago, the models were predicting that the UW Medicine System could expect as many as 950 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 at the the epidemic’s peak, said Lisa Brandenburg, president of UW Medicine Hospitals & Clinics. The latest modeling shows a 20 to 30 percent reduction, or an expected maximum of 750 to 650 patients with COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
Since UW Medicine and its four hospitals already prepared for the earlier, worst-case scenario — identifying where to squeeze in extra beds and how to mobilize additional staff — Brandenburg said she’s increasingly confident they will be able to handle the surge.

As it turned out, the measure did require an in-person vote, because Rep. Massie did pursue his delaying tactic. Which accomplished exactly nothing, other than inconveniencing his colleagues and costing taxpayers money, because the bill passed and Trump will sign it at 4 p.m. (ET).

“Ultimately, however House leadership was able to deny Massie a sufficient second in support of a roll call vote when he made a request for it, shutting down the demand and allowing the House to approve the package by voice vote instead.
“But members still had to return to Washington in order to establish a quorum and deny the attempt.”

“Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) may have studied robotics at MIT, but he is now responsible for one of the most asinine moments in congressional history. At a House committee hearing Tuesday on ‘The Need for Leadership to Combat Climate Change and Protect National Security,’ the Kentucky Republican thought he could pwn former secretary of state John Kerry. …
“The transcript of the literally unbelievable exchange follows:
“Massie: Sec. Kerry, I want to read part of your statement back to you: ‘Instead of convening a kangaroo court, the president might want to talk with the educated adults he once trusted his top national security positions.’ It sounds like you’re questioning the credentials of the president’s advisers, currently. But I think we should question your credentials today. Isn’t it true you have a science degree from Yale?
“Kerry: Bachelor of arts degree.
“Massie: Is it a political science degree?
“Kerry: Yes, political science.
“Massie: So how do you get a bachelor of arts, in a science?
“Kerry: Well it’s a liberal arts education and degree. It’s a bachelor…
“Massie: OK. So it’s not really science. So I think it’s somewhat appropriate that someone with a pseudo-science degree is here pushing pseudo-science in front of our committee today.
“Kerry: Are you serious?! I mean this is really a serious happening here?
“Massie: You know what? It is serious. You’re calling the president’s Cabinet a ‘kangaroo court.’ Is that serious?
“Kerry: I’m not calling his Cabinet a kangaroo court, I’m calling this committee that he’s putting together a kangaroo committee.
“Massie: Are you saying it doesn’t have educated adults now?
“Kerry: I don’t know who it has yet because it’s secret.
“Massie: Well you said it in your testimony.
“Kerry: Why would he have to have a secret analysis of climate change?
“Massie: Let’s get back to the science of it.
“Kerry: But it’s not science, you’re not quoting science!
“Massie: Well, You’re the science expert. You have the political science degree.”
Myself, I’ve always been suspicious of guys with engineering degrees. They’re good with slide rules, but don’t know anything else. And, it turns out, they can’t design an airplane either.

Almost one in four Americans lost job or furloughed because of coronavirus, poll finds
Cable channel Fox Business has fired primetime television programme host Trish Regan after she claimed earlier this month the coronavirus crisis was a Democratic “scam” to impeach President Trump
How good are Republicans at predicting the future? Not very good, it turns out. A former Bush administration official (whose name is of no consequence) wrote the following in the Feb. 8, 2019, issue of USA Today:
“Another week, another apology from Sen. Elizabeth Warren for her phony claims of Native American heritage. But the latest evidence against her should spell the end of her presidential ambitions. …
“This [evidence] supports two critical charges against her: that she knowingly and personally claimed Native American heritage, and that she did so for the purpose of career advancement. …
“It is fair to speculate that Warren’s presidential campaign will soon be over. … As a nominee, Warren would have to spend the entire campaign explaining to people of color why her candidacy is not a standing indictment of the cynical abuse of affirmative action programs for personal gain.”
As it turned out, Warren’s presidential campaign wasn’t “soon over” — she remained a top contender, and was one of the last candidates to withdraw.
Nor did she “spend the entire campaign” defending herself against the GOP-manufactured controversy about her ethnic background. The media and public ignored it. And well they should have, because she had the most comprehensive and detailed policy positions of all the Democratic candidates.
Nor did Democratic primary voters reject her because of those policy positions. As Danny Westneat wrote in the Seattle Times a couple weeks ago, in choosing Biden they opted for “safety” — i.e., the candidate most likely to beat Trump.
Had Warren become the nominee, voters wouldn’t have given a damn what percentage of Native American blood she has, or whether claiming she was part Native American helped her get a job at Harvard University. They have bigger concerns.
And if the 2020 election was to be a contest about who lies the most, she would have won against Trump hands-down. To the average not-Red-Hat voter, her alleged dissembling and dishonesty would have looked puny and trivial compared to his.
The lessons from this op-ed are as follows:
1. Don’t let Republicans pick Democratic nominees;
2. Don’t believe Republicans who claim to know the future;
3. Don’t hire a Republican stock adviser.
Because Republicans don’t know shit from shinola.

“A former aide to Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden said this week that he sexually assaulted her in 1993 …. Last April, Reade was one of eight women to accuse the former vice president of inappropriate touching. …”
Roger Rabbit Commentary: I guess, at this point, I have to say: So what? At worst we’ll have to choose between two men now in their 70s who both have a past history of sexual assault, and between the two of them, Trump’s behavior was worse. In that respect, having Biden in the White House can’t be worse than having Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court. Biden has other imperfections as well, and there are things to criticize in his voting record, but having Trump as his opponent makes the choice in November a no-brainer. In coming months, the burden shouldn’t be on Democrats to justify their nominee, but on Republicans to defend their nominee. Let’s not lose focus. We can live with Biden’s imperfections. The country can’t live with Trump’s imperfections. No matter what may be said about Biden, the 2020 election choice is no more complicated than that.

Got it, The Fucking Moron II? On THE TENTH DAY after Cuomo declared a state of emergency, de Blasio got around to closing NYC bars. Let that sink in.
I’m not saying there have not been similar missteps by GOP leaders. The Florida beaches should have been closed, and that’s on DeSantis for not having done so. But if you look at NOLA, that’s a Democrat mayor and a Democrat governor. Louisiana is becoming a shitshow.

“Members are now racing to get back to D.C. by Friday morning — in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic — because leaders fear at least one member, likely Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., will demand a recorded vote.”

Governor Cuomo: The temporary hospital in the Javits Center will fully open on MONDAY. I congratulate FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers for their work at Javits. I thank the Javits staff. I thank the National Guard. You built a hospital in a week. You are the best of us.

1. Don’t let Republicans pick Democratic nominees;
2. Don’t believe Republicans who claim to know the future;
3. Don’t hire a Republican stock adviser.
Because Republicans don’t know shit from shinola.

@207 Seems to me if this company is docking paychecks for work performed, or paid vacation or sick leave time, as opposed to continued pay to employees sent home on “coronavirus break,” it would be illegal. No different from saying to an employee, “If you win $100 at the Saturday night poker game with your friends, I’ll take $100 out of your paycheck for this week.”
Most folks would call it “stealing.”
If you work there, you might as well tell them to shove it and refuse to sign the form, because if they’re that hard up for cash, they’re probably not going to be in business much longer anyway.

Good. Now let’s fire Trump for doing the same thing. He’s not Fox’s employee, he’s our employee, so it’s our job to give him the pink slip.

Meanwhile, it sure looks like Trump’s FEMA is intercepting medical supplies that were destined for blue states in urgent need of them.
Just today, Trump made comments that seemed to imply retaliation against governors who didn’t praise him enough.
Maybe there’s no connection between those dots. But it’s tempting to connect them.

Biden: No worse a man than Trump and a hell of a lot more competent.
