According to an article on TPM, the teabaggers are attempting to rebrand their “movement” as less violent, less racist and less, well crazy. But judging from Eli Sanders’s coverage of a Tea Party rally in Yakima over the weekend, they still have a ways to go.
Whether it’s explaining that “the only difference between Barack Obama and Adolf Hitler” is the Jew killing thing, or inexplicably attempting to vilify Patty Murray by magic-markering a yarmulke on the Senator’s head, the Yakima teabaggers haven’t quite internalized the kinder/gentler message yet. The crazy/racist/anti-semitic stuff though, now that they have down pat.
And yet these are the folks to whom Rob McKenna has chosen to pander in attempting to solidify his position as the GOP frontrunner for governor in 2012. Go figure.
If you remove the people who think Obama is a Muslim, Communist, Antichrist, or not legitimately a U.S. citizen, plus the ones that think there was a direct link between Saddam Hussein and the 9-11 attacks, add in the secessionists, gay haters, abject racists, and, just for fun, those that love Medicare yet hate government run healthcare, you’d be left with a Republican party small enough for Grover Norquist to drown in a bathtub.
Of course there are plenty of idiots among Democrats as well. The difference is this: The Democratic strategy is to educate. The better educated in the areas of economics, history, science, democracy, law, public policy, et al, the more likely is one to vote Democratic. The more generally ignorant in these fields the more likely is one to vote Republican.
Most of my Republican friends are smart, and there are legitimate policy debates to be had. The problem for the Republicans is that the more information voters have, the less appealing are the Republican policies.
It is in the interest of the Republican party to cultivate ignorance through false and misleading propaganda, fan the flames of racism, then exploit the ignorance and animosity they breed. (See also: Fox News)
Intellectual honesty and winning elections simply aren’t compatible goals in the Republican party. They need to abandon the former in order to achieve the latter.

He then goes on to references Obama’s father’s native country and Kenya’s claim to “Odumba” as a “home boy.” Notice he never said Obama.
There are several significant problems with this:
1) The incredibly delusional belief one must have to think that the US government would even ALLOW someone to run for president of the United States of America, become the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, to be able to launch nuclear missiles, know every state secret, etc. who is not constitutionally eligible to hold the office. It’s ridiculous beyond reproach. It’s not ever fathomable to even the modestly reasoned and honest person.
2) There is a bigger personal issue here for our friend, my friend, Puddy. To claim the mantel of Christian, to not bear false witness, would prevent you from ever promulgating this, and other lies coming from the Republican / Conservative / Tea Party movement. It’s one thing to have a legitimate policy disagreement, like how much the income tax rate should be, but it’s a completely false and intentionally misleading statement to make inference to President Obama’s legitimatacy to be president based on wild and untrue accusations that he was not born in America.
When you do this, Puddy, you remove yourself from the Glory of God. You know it, I know it, everyone who reads your comments knows it, and God certainly knows it. You can’t keep on sinning with the end game strategy in mind is to fully accept Jesus Christ and ask for all your sins to be forgiven at the end. It doesn’t work that way.

I’ve been screaming for twenty years now about how special inspection fails to inspect the seismic anchorage for mechanical and electrical as I believe is required by IBC/ASCE-7 for hi-rise and essential facilities. Nobody inspects that at all. I had a Seattle electrical inspector stand under a gawd-awful looking, unbraced trapeze supporting about three tons of electrical crap. I told him that that’s where I wanted him to be standing when the big one comes. Him, “Huh?” Me, “look up at those 1/4″ (!!!)rods and all that damned load they’re supporting.” He finally got it, and had them put in bigger rods and bracing. But it was still never inspected by the likes of Mayes! And that was in the fucking office tower above the convention center addition! Lordy! But with this condo! The whole fucking building!! Damn! I’m really glad that I had nothing to do with that one. I’ve heard of everybody involved but don’t know any of them.

Generators in the Bay area didn’t fail because they were laying on their side after the quake. They failed because of some two-bit relay other some other internal component that failed when the generator and transfer switch were shaken all to hell.

He took it well. It’s not for electrical inspectors to inspect structural anyway. But with the likes of Mayes not doing the inspection, M/E inspectors are the only people looking at this stuff. NEC simply doesn’t go there, IBC is vague, and only a handful of people on the planet even know what’s in ASCE-7.
