Stupid fucking credulous hacks

by Goldy — Friday, 2/20/09, 2:01 pm

The Stranger’s Dominic Holden catches the Seattle Times rewriting a federal prosecutor’s press release on a marijuana conviction.  Oops.

Reporters rewrite press releases all the time—usually about restaurant openings or events without much widespread impact. But the war on drugs costs billions a year, kills innocent people in raids, and has resulted in increased drug use. News coverage of any other miserable war would get a some scrutiny after 30 years of empty-handed results. In the service of objectivity, reporters for daily newspapers make a moral virtue of getting “both sides of the story.” The war on pot deserves more than regurgitating government press releases and some scrutiny—at least a fraction the scrutiny our reporters give plastic bags.

And for this they want a tax break?

Obama Signs Presidential Determination Allowing Palestinians Loyal to Hamas to Resettle In US

    ww.wizbangblog.com ^ | Feb 7,2009 | Kim Priestap http://www.thefederalregister......04-E9-2488

Posted on Sunday, February 08, 2009 5:18:31 PM by NoLibZone

President Barack Obama has signed an executive order presidential determination allowing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to resettle in the United States. Sure, what can go wrong when we allow hundreds of thousands of people who have been, as Mark Steyn memorably described, “marinated” in a “sick death cult,” who voted for Hamas, and 55% of whom support suicide bombings live here and at the American taxpayers’ expense:

By executive order, President Barack Obama has ordered the expenditure of $20.3 million in migration assistance to the Palestinian refugees and conflict victims in Gaza.

The “presidential determination” which allows hundreds of thousands of Palestinians with ties to Hamas to resettle in the United States was signed on January 27 and appeared in the Federal Register on February 4.

President Obama’s decision, according to the Register, was necessitated by “the urgent refugee and migration needs” of the “victims.”

Few on Capitol Hill took note that the order provides a free ticket replete with housing and food allowances to individuals who have displayed their overwhelming support of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the parliamentary election of January 2006.

Let’s review some of Barack Obama’s most recent actions since he was inaugurated a little more than two weeks ago:

    * His first call to any head of state as president was to Mahmoud Abbas, leader of Fatah party in the Palestinian territory.

    * His first one-on-one interview with any news organization was with Al Arabia television.

    * He ordered Guantanamo Bay closed and all military trials of detainees halted.

    * He ordered all overseas CIA interrogation centers closed.

    * He withdrew all charges against the masterminds behind the USS Cole and
    9/11.

    * Today we learn that he is allowing hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refuges to move to and live in the US at American taxpayer expense.

Anyone else seeing a pattern here?

OBAMA and DEMOCRATIC PARTY are DEADBEATS!!
    From today’s Chicago Sun:
    February 20, 2009

BY FRAN SPIELMAN City Hall Reporter/fspielman@suntimes.com

Chicago has yet to recoup the $1.74 million cost of President Obama’s victory celebration in Grant Park — despite a burgeoning $50.5 million budget shortfall that threatens more layoffs and union concessions.

“The Democratic National Committee has not yet paid us,” Peter Scales, a spokesman for the city’s Office of Budget and Management, said Thursday after questions from the Chicago Sun-Times. “We’re reaching out to them this week

Government workers are about to be laid off because of the Democrat deadbeats.

Back to the subject of the Seattle Times:

Seattle P.I. cartoonist David Horsey reports from the National Press Foundation’s award dinner. Obviously, he’s a bit depressed as he sees the impending demise of not only his own employer, but also his industry as a whole:

…Seattle Times reporters David Heath and Hal Bernton were up at the front table to receive an award for a series of stories…. I had talked with Heath at a VIP reception before the dinner where we commiserated about the state of the newspaper business in Seattle. My newspaper, of course, is unlikely to exist in print format by the end of March. Heath surprised me with his pessimistic view that the Times may not survive to the end of 2009.”

Source: No Bailout for the Truth Tellers

He decries the loss of investigative reporting which he feels will accompany the demise of the urban daily newspapers. In theory, he is correct, but I think a significant part of today’s newspaper’s demise is that when it was most important, from 2001 through 2005, they were asleep at the wheel when important national issues were at stake.

It took the Katrina disaster for the mainstream media to have the courage to actually begin confronting the Bush administration, and to point out the wide discrepency between what the Bush administration said, and the actual facts. When Bush stood up in a press conference and tried to justify days of inaction by claiming that they had “just learned” of conditions which were painfully obvious to tens of millions of television viewers who had been following the disaster and the 24/7 news coverage, the veil was lifted.

If the media had done that much earlier – in 2003 and 2004, for example – we might have been spared many of the problems we now currently face. Instead, the media was largly cowed by the Bush administration’s bullying and threats to brand anyone who didn’t parrot the administration’s press releases as “unpatriotic”. And that would have meant that the public wouldn’t have learned to rely upon Goldy’s blog, among others, to actually report some important facts – such as the fact that the head of FEMA was totally unqualified for his post.

Oh, he balances that out by completely ignoring his and his own party’s faults. His is a classic case of someone who acts like his own shit doesn’t stink. He’s become both tiresome and boring. Perhaps he should go back to focusing his lunatic ravings on calling us all Godless heathens or telling us how Republicans are real Christians and Democrats aren’t. I find that still entertaining.

I knew all we had to do to solve global warming was put a democrat in office.

Every week there is new news about computer models not being accurate, bad data and a whole host of other problems popping up.

Now we have a bad sensor problem.

A glitch in satellite sensors caused scientists to underestimate the extent of Arctic sea ice by 500,000 square kilometers (193,000 square miles), a California- size area, the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center said.

Another few months and global warming will just be another fad, much like pet rocks or the hulahoop.

A Pentagon report requested by President Obama on the conditions at the Guantánamo Bay detention center concludes that the prison complies with the humanitarian requirements of the Geneva conventions
    …
was widely seen as an effort by the new administration to defuse the power of allegations during the Bush administration that there were widespread abuses at Guantánamo, and that many detainees were suffering severe psychological effects after years of isolation.
