Weyerhauser announced today they’re shutting down a couple plants out in Greys Harbor. If you’ve been through Hoquerdeen lately, you know they don’t need that.

Why Conservatives Are Finished
Dividend cuts. The third wave. The first wave was corporations going to bankruptcy court to ditch their pension obligations to retirees. The second wave was the plunging stock market that wiped out trillions in individual retirement savings. Now, here come the dividend cuts to erase the retirement income of millions of the elderly.
A whole generation of young Americans is learning you can’t trust the private sector. You can’t count on having a job, you can’t count on private pensions, you can’t count on your savings being there. The only thing you can trust in this world is the government safety net, and then only if it’s run by Democrats. After the dust settles, the only old age security they’ll ever have that they can count on is Social Security and Medicare. And they know that conservatives despise those programs and want to destroy them — the last safety net there is.
And that’s why conservatives will never again be voted into power during the lifetimes of those now living. They are at least 75 years away from the next conservative revival.
Here’s the advice conservatives give to people for tough economic times: Work harder, put in more hours, don’t ask for a raise, and suck up to your boss — and maybe you’ll keep your job.
I say screw that and bring back strong unions and restore the government safety net.

This is the World According to Limbaugh.
Failure, corruption, incompetence, bankruptcy, never-ending debt.
Of course, Limbaugh admitted that he hopes Obama fails. Considering the sorry state the country is in after eight years of management under his preferred rules, I guess “failure” would have to constitute a collapse on the scale of the Great Depression.
Let’s think of what that would look like. Stock market tanks (well, it’s already done that). Pensions erased (ditto). Massive job losses (unemployment currently 7.5% as of the end of December, I’m thinking January is going to look much worse). Not quite at the 30%+ unemployment during the Hoover administration, but hey, the year’s still young.
And there’s something to remember about those unemployment numbers. A lot of people who were unemployed earlier this year will be dropping from the roles simply because their benefits are expiring. This leaves the false impression that unemployment is rising. Also, those who ordinarily would be looking for jobs (new graduates, homemakers who’s kids are now in school) aren’t even trying – they will never be counted. And since you can’t file for benefits the first two weeks after you lose a job, the current rash of layoffs won’t show up until February’s numbers are available, sometime in late March.
Anyway, that’s what Limbaugh wants for the U.S., just so he can say “I told you so”. What a pig.

Cynical @ 12: Nope, not taken out of context. Limbaugh has already insisted that Obama is a radical, left-wing socialist. Then he says that he hopes Obama fails, but in the next sentence tries to qualify it a bit by saying “if he pursues his socialist policies”. To Limbaugh, they are inseperable. So that’s not a qualification.
What he SHOULD have said is that he “hopes and prays for is for Obama to succeed, because that is best for America, but he expects Obama to fail because his policies aren’t the best ones for the country.” I don’t agree with that statement, but it would at least be a palatable way of voicing the role as the traditional “loyal opposition”.
But Limbaugh didn’t say that. He said he hopes Obama fails. And there you see the real measure of the man.

Everybody else is to blame, he says, for the destruction of the Republican Party. Everybody else fell away from the true faith. Everybody else is an apostate. “I’m the last man standing,” he says, but means that he’s the last grandstanding.
And from the grandstand, behind the golden microphone, he spends much of every busy broadcast day beating up his former buddies and trying to explain his own bad jokes. Some of us remnant Republicans get his jokes, but we know that when it takes ten hours to feebly explain away a previous moment of bullshit, the shit’s hit the propeller and the crap/content ratio has tilted into the sewer.
The Republican Party is a quagmire, and Rush put up the diving board. Let him hang up his jock or let him use it to cover his fat ass, but get him out of here. Send him to Gitmo — he’s got the gear — or let him retire to lonely exile on the beach. But get him out of here before he knocks down the last men standing.
McConnell and Boehner have enough to worry about from nominal Democrats on the left. They don’t need to deal with a dead-head ditto-head stealth Democrat on the right.

Monson, yesterday, whacked Soros for being the plutocrat behind rad doc Paul Farmer, subject of UW’s first ‘common book.’ Farmer, despite his infatuation with Castro, has lived a good life. If Soros helped Farmer help the wretched of the earth, then good for Soros. It’s the only good thing he’s done with a life that’s gone on too long.

Trent Lott, with all his faults, at least knew how to count. Rush and the rest didn’t.

Oh, I completely understand what you’re saying. What you complete morons don’t seem to understand is, the more you piss and moan about George Soros the more you completely undercut every conservative argument about Economic policies.
Here, try this: name one thing that George Soros has done that would have been stopped by any legislation that is congruent with Republican philosophy. You can’t. Other than the fact that he supports progressive causes, George Soros is the very embodiment of the Republican ideal of “Economic Man.”
