@9 Really? I was raised Christian. They never stopped accusing each other of going to hell. I find that nonsense to be exactly like Christians. Always needing to feel superior to somebody else.
@10 Under Vatican II, the official Catholic church doctrine is that Jews have a special exemption from the requirement to accept Christ as their savior, thanks to their prior covenant with God… though it’s not clear how widely accepted that is among the rank and file.
As far as I know, no other Christian denomination explicitly follows that doctrine. So for these Christians who believe that failure to accept Christ as your savior condemns you to an eternity of suffering, they believe all us Jews are going to burn in Hell.
I’ve asked the question before on HA about the evangelical right: How can we expect them to treat us humanely in this world when they believe that God has condemned us to suffer unimaginably in the next?
@11 Raised Lutheran, it was awkward when a lifelong friend who is Eastern Orthodox told me I was going to burn in hell. Catholics I’ve met have told me that Lutheranism is a damnable sin, and evangelical relatives and associates have also predicted hellfire for us.
Lutheranism is about as offensive as raw mashed potatoes these days (Missouri Synod aside), but it’s nothing personal. Many are called, but few are chosen.

So, as one example of the relevance of Goldy’s Bible quotes, as long as people are voting based on what kind of society they think the Old Testament God wants, we have very little chance of having a rational discussion about our turning over control of so much of our future to the energy industry.
