SPD Investigating “Caller ID Fraud” After Anti-Parks Robocall Prompts Dozens of Residents to Call 911

by Goldy — Friday, 8/1/14, 1:05 pm

If the No on Parks folks think it was just clever gamesmanship to spoof “911” in the caller ID of their recent robocall, they’re gonna have to make their case to the police. From SPD Blotter:

Dozens of confused Seattle residents have called Seattle police over the last 24 hours after receiving hangup calls, which appeared as if they came from 911.

In fact, these calls—which appear on caller IDs as “911-9111″—are the result of caller ID fraud, or “spoofing,” and are not coming from SPD’s 911 Communications Center.

The 911 Communications Center is researching the origin of the calls and is referring the case to detectives for investigation.

SPD blogger Jonah Spangenthal-Lee confirms that emergency operators saw a surge in volume yesterday as worried residents called 911 in response to these spoofed caller IDs. He was not familiar with the apparent connection to the No on Parks campaign. But now SPD is. According to an internal email sent out to volunteers yesterday, No on Parks committee co-chair Carol Fisher claimed “100,000 robo calls went out today.”

So, hey, thanks, Carol Fisher, Don Harper, Jon Hansen, Faye Garneau, Alyne Fortgang, Jim Coombes, and the rest of you anti-tax lying liars for creating a public safety hazard in the service of spreading your lies.

Kinda reminds me of that lying weasel, Lori Sotelo, who committed dozens of perjuries in mass challenges of voter registrations. (Lucky for her she didn’t try that on me, because I would have sued her ass.) Our Republican prosecutor refused to prosecute her. (What do you expect? He’ll probably refuse to prosecute these scumbags, too. Sadly, our county is saddled with a partisan prosecutor.) Maybe Jenny Durkan can get these outlaws on some sort of federal charges. You know, kinda like sending in Elliot Ness when the local cops are corrupt. It’s really time that some of these people went to jail. Fines have no effect on them because their party or campaign organization will pick up the tab. It’ll take handcuffs and perp walks to make an impression on these swine.

Hilarious, actually. I imagine there are some pretty awkward conversations going on at the moment in the No on Prop 1 campaign headquarters. I expect they’ll soon send out a press release saying it was all one big mistake, sorry for the inconvenience, won’t happen again, the volunteer/staffer responsible has been re-assigned, blah blah blah.

Yes, I remember that shitbag Lori Sotelo and her plot to disqualify valid voters. Hope she’s been busy fucking herself over the years.

On a lighter note, marijuana went on sale today at a store in Tacoma. There were a lot of local politicos there preening for the small amount of media folks there, of course. They kind of delayed the opening of the store with all their speeches, but I suppose that kind of activity makes them feel important and gives meaning to their lives as politicians.

When asked for a comment, the No on Parks committee said,
“we’re researching what happened but we can’t thinking this is somehow Obama’s fault.”

“Kinda reminds me of that lying weasel, Lori Sotelo, who committed dozens of perjuries in mass challenges of voter registrations.”

I stil have the letter Rob McKenna sent to me, after I wrote to him, asking why Sotelo wasn’t being prosecuted for her multiple felonies. His smirking response was a cross between, “just you try and make me do it, liberal,” and “go cry to King County’s Republucan prosecutor, and tell me what good it does you.” Little wonder Commissioner Goldmark had to sue McKenna to get him to perform his duties as Attorney Grneral.

If you still have the letter why don’t you just quote the text rather than interpreting it for us?

Sucks to be the wingnuts who came up with that one, no doubt.

In other news, without progressive participation, the last thread at (un)SP died after only 10 comments, ending with spam and a wingnut whimper about how the blog is dying.

    Travis:

    (1) I didn’t say I carried it everywhere I carried my iPhone;

    (2) Here’s McKenna’s snotty statement to Goldmark, which prompted the latter to sue his ass off in our State’s Supreme Court:

It’s unfortunate that the Lands Commissioner has inserted politics into a purely legal decision by the Attorney General’s Office. The assertion that politics played any part in our decision is wrong, and frankly, insulting.

This decision was thoroughly processed in the manner in which we handle all appeal decisions. The legal underpinnings of an appeal were researched and analyzed by attorneys assigned to DNR and by our Solicitor General’s Office, staffed by some of the finest appellate lawyers in the nation.

The decision not to appeal the Okanogan County Superior Court decision was based, as all of our appellate decisions are, on whether legal error was made by the trial court judge, consideration of the trial court record, and the likelihood of the appeal’s success. This process for handling appeals has been in place for many years.

It is regrettable that Commissioner Goldmark seeks to undermine the integrity of the Attorney General’s Office.

McKenna lost the suit when the Supreme Court rejected all of his above-quoted claims.

I hope that quote, and the total rejection of everything in it by our state’s Supreme Court, adequately conveys the flavor and substance of McKenna’s legal “reasoning.”

Steve meant the last comments allowed at (un)SP. Recall that distortion, lies, censorship, and banishment have long been art forms there.

    Here’s the last non-spam comment:

    9. Maybe this post has run its course.
    A few thoughts, for future reference;
What happened to Adam Faber ?
What happened to Nicholas Kerr ?
    Is pudge still available ?
Is Ron Hebron going to post again ?
Why is Jim Miller not allowing comments while still posting.
That is aiding in driving people away from Sound Politics as much as anything else & not only leftists in case the brain trust at Sound Politics had not noticed.

Why not bring back Eric Earling ?
Who has replaced Stefan Sharkansky as the webmaster/ombudsman for Sound Politics ?

A lonely voice cried out in the wilderness, asking, “is there no pudge in (un)SP?” A voice on the wind replied, “FALSE”.

I just sent a ‘news tip’ email to The Seattle Times about these blatantly illegal robocalls.

I also told them that HA and SLOG were all over this story and were beating them all over the place in political news coverage.

Female genital mutilation, a ritual cutting and suturing of women’s genitals, has been practiced by some groups in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia as way to prepare women for marriage. It poses many health risks: severe bleeding, infection, problems with urinating, and increased risk of newborn deaths in childbirth. Its practice in Iraq is not common or widespread, and many countries have banned it in recent years. The UN approved a resolution calling on member states to ban the procedure in 2012.

As long as it’s not American wimens Obummer doesn’t care. Butt at the rate Obummer let’s illegal aliens arrive from Mexico without really checking them, sha’ria law will come to Seattle sooner than libtards think!

I’m glad the police are acting on this, but I wish the police had taken telephone and e-mail fraud seriously before it affected them directly. There’s just tons of this stuff. It wastes a huge amount of time and costs a huge amount of money. And, what, enforcement? Nah!
