So how will teabaggers respond if Republicans don’t take control of Congress?

I keep hearing that liberals like me are the real danger to America, yet unlike Republican congressional nominee Stephen Broden (TX-30), I don’t hear anybody on our side threatening to win by violence what they can’t win at the polls. Huh.

    Tea Baggers are 15 percenters. Even if the Republicans take both houses the baggers will lose as they support crack pots (crack pipes?) like O’Donnell who’s down by 17% in DE, Dan Maes who’s going down in flames in CO and Paladino in NY who’s down by 24%.

    The baggers don’t support Republicans, like Olympia Snow, that can actually govern.

    This is how the right wing responds. McVey, “Hutaree” nuts in Michigan, Nazi “reenactors”, and overt violence.

    America’s right wing has absolutely no compunction about killing those that disagree with them. I’m not at all sure this country is governable – there’s too large a class of violent eliminationist whackjobs just all too ready to act from their collective id.

    Indeed. I’ve often wondered what the nation would be like if Lincoln had simply said, “See ya later” to the secessionists. The fly in the ointment is of course slavery – but you get my point – imagine the nation without Dixie.

    Now my southern progressive friends would of course cry foul over that – anti-southern bigotry. But imagine a nation with so much less conservatism, religiosity, teen-pregnancy, violence, divorce (all kind of maximal, statistically, in the south). Imagine no drain on the Federal coffers like Mississippi and Alabama and Oklahoma – all of which receive much more of our tax dollars than they contribute.

    The Following is a minority opinion..

    Had Lincoln signed the emancipation proclamation and let the south secede slavery would have been done and over with and the south would have rejoined the union within the time it took to fight the civil war and with few dead on both sides.

    But, Lincoln was a hot headed, moralistic, crusading Christian, Republican, who was spoiling for a fight. He was going to teach those boys a lesson, it would be over in a couple of weeks and The North would be heros! Sound familiar?

    I could live with that. Moving the process forward, Sister Psycho could achieve here dream and Alaska could secede. Next would be Utah, and they could take Idaho and Montana, maybe even Nevada with them.

    Continuing, Washington, Oregon and northern California could become a republic of their own, kinda like as it was in the book Ecotopia (just without the hippie-dippie bullshit), though the State of Jefferson crowd along the Oregon – California border might not be thrilled about that….

    Perhaps my statement was imprecise, and painted conservatism with too broad a brush. OTOH, every contemporary instance of domestic terrorism I can think of has been from the right. Moreover, eliminationist rhetoric is a staple of the American right wing (see David Niewert’s excellent work, as well as the emails from some Teabaggers in Texas to a group trying to register brown citizens to vote.) Beck’s fantasies about the Tides Foundation resulted in a massive shoot out on a highway in Oakland, and could have cost many innocent people their lives.

    So perhaps I should have said:

    Too many members of America’s right wing, including for many of their leaders, have absolutely no compunction about discussing the elimination of their political opponents. And too many members of America’s right wing are all to happy to pull the trigger themselves. The pity is that there seems to be absolutely no voice from within America’s right wing speaking out against this dire threat to the freedom of all of us.

    I kinda have to agree with you on that, lost. I know a few guys who play soldier out in the boonies with like-minded individuals, and truth be told I don’t think they have the balls to do something like that. Even though the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 (in conjuntion with the Insurrection Act of 1807) prohibits the military from going after domestic terrorists, local law enforcement (with a little backup from the FBI) could take down all but the hardest nuts.

    That said, there’s still a real possibility of another incident similar to Ruby Ridge or even the Branch Davidians happening in the next few years.

    The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters shows Boxer picking up 48% of the vote, while Fiorina draws support from 46%.

    You should, if only to laugh at me. Worf had it nailed when he linked to an old SNL clip of ‘grumpy old man’ as too similar to what I sometimes write. Ah well, we all have room for improvement, me more than most.

    And I just think most of the militia/separatist/oddball groups don’t have the guts to really do anything. For the rest they, like you and I, just happen to have strong political beliefs. To go from that to overt violence is a step I don’t see anyone I know taking.

    Minorities had to wait another 90 years or so for the Eisenhower Admin to come along and do the heavy lifting and get the Gov’mnt end of the civil rights movement rolling.

    I guess we had to think good thoughts about Lincoln because if we didn’t 620,000 or so Americans that died in the Civil War would have died for nothing. But really they did die for nothing. We could have ended slavery w/o those deaths.

    But Ruby Ridge is an example of what can happen if we let fear triumph over reason in the fight against terrorism. Randy Weaver left his property on a regular basis. Why not arrest him away from home, on the fairly minor fire-arms charges faced? Instead a small army descended on the home. A paranoid delusional with a lot of weapons within reach reacted fairly predictably. At the end his son and wife were dead, though neither had physically threatened law enforcement. All this was over, as I said, some fairly unimportant fire-arms charges. To put a final flourish on this insanity the guy in charge, Louis Freeh, was promoted to second in command of the FBI, instead of being fired.

    Remember the private security who handcuffed and removed a journalist in Alaska for attending a Joe Miller campaign event, to which the public was invited????

    It turns out that they were all hired by a militia group which supports Miller. And the leader of the group is on video saying that if they don’t get their way through the political process, they will get their way through “other means”.
