Simpsons Open Thread

by Lee — Saturday, 8/11/07, 4:02 pm

I ran a few local notables through the Simpsonizer.

Also, no one’s gotten the Birds Eye View Contest yet this week…

Without exception, EVERYTHING that Bubba takes credit for was a result of Newt’s leadership in the house and the CWA.

Coupla days ago, Newt said that The Smartest Woman In The World is capable of being preznit.

So I’m wondering… since Newt made Bubba successful… shouldn’t she consider Newt as a running mate? From a pure political standpint, seems like he’d make helluva lot more sense than picking a fucking loser like Hussein Obama.

But rather than earning the big bucks that a REAL attorney can get, he settled for the low expectations and guaranteed job security offered by the state. He was just another fucking civil service parasite who squandered his productive years stuck in an utterly meaningless job.

This is a sad story. If true, I feel bad for poking fun at him for all his posts. This board might be the only thing in life he looks forward to. If his health is so bad, it’s not like he can go out and play with his kids, enjoy his wife or just sit on a bench and watch the sun set.
Wow, a law degree and ends up with a $50k job, here in california prison guards make that. Maybe Roger had some self-esteem/worth problems from childhood he never worked out. Either way, he did have a job and was a contributing member of society.
Something else strange, considering his education and resultant pay, and then how he spends so much of his income on medical expenses that he still is a staunch government supporter. If me, I would be bitter and hateful towards the government and want the government out of my business.
Unless someone posts that you, Mark, are lying about this, I’m gonna lay off of Roger and hope things go better for him. Mark, maybe you could do the same? That said, why is headless lucy biker so damn bitter, does she have a sad story?

All the wingnut bleating about Gore’s electricity use traces back to an allegation by the Tennessee Center for Policy Research (that state’s equivalent of Evergreen Freedom Foundation) that Gore’s residence uses over 22,000 Kw per month. TCPR claimed it got this information from Nashville Electric Service. But NES told news reporters that TCPR never requested or got any information from the company.

Gore is rich, so naturally he owns a big house. He’s a former vice president, presidential candidate, and a public figure, so his house has power-consuming security equipment the rest of us don’t have. In addition, the Gore home also functions as an office building.

Gore purchases carbon credits and hired a contractor to install solar panels after local zoning laws were changed to allow solar panels.

Gore’s energy use, of course, is irrelevant to the issue of global warming and an attempt at deflection by intellectually dishonest global warming deniers who are trying to distract people from the fact there’s a strontg scientific consensus that (a) global warming is real, (b) is caused in part by human activities, and (c) is a serious threat to mankind. As Gore’s spokesperson said, “Sometimes when people don’t like the message, in this case that global warming is real, it’s convenient to attack the messenger.”

    8 MTR

Probably depends on if you listen to MTR or NOAA:

    http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories/s105.htm

Washington, January 11, 1999 — NOAA announced today that global temperatures in 1998 were the warmest in the past 119 years, since reliable instrument records began. The previous record high surface temperature was set last 1997. The global mean temperature in 1998 was 1.20 °F (0.66°C) above the long-term average value of 56.9°F (13.8°C). This was the 20th consecutive year with an annual global mean surface temperature exceeding the long-term average.

But it looks like that discussion will soon be moot:

    http://news.nationalgeographic.....-year.html

An El Niño weather phenomenon combined with high levels of greenhouse gases are likely to make 2007 the warmest year ever recorded, British climate scientists said today. U.S. government scientists agree with the assessment.

According to the British forecasters, 2007 will probably be 0.97 degree Fahrenheit (0.54 degree Celsius) above the long-term average of 57 degrees Fahrenheit (14 degrees Celsius). The current record holder, 1998, was 0.94 degree Fahrenheit (0.52 degree Celsius) above the long-term average. (The average is calculated from the years 1961 to 1990.)

As always, I await with bated breath your pronouncement of my dimbassedness.

There’s also news from the National Academies’ National Research Council.

    http://news.nationalgeographic.....rming.html

The last two decades of the 20th century were the hottest in 400 years and quite likely the warmest for several millennia, a leading U.S. scientific body concludes in a new report.

The National Academies’ National Research Council report also said “human activities are responsible for much of the recent warming.”

The U.S. Congress had requested the report after controversy arose last year over surface-temperature reconstructions published in the 1990s by climatologist Michael Mann, now at Pennsylvania State University, University Park, and colleagues. Mann, in an interview with National Geographic News, said the new report “nailed the coffin on the skeptics.”
