Political prognosticator Larry Sabato just updated his House Outlook for 2008 to project a minimum Democratic net pick-up of 26 seats… including a Darcy Burner victory in WA-08. That’s a big shift for a race he’s rated as “leans Republican” throughout the campaign.

Not only does “the math” pretty much guarantee an Obama victory (see openleft.com) but it’s looking pretty good that we get a Senate at 60.

Sabato ran the table with his predictions in 2004, getting every Governor’s race, Senate race and U.S. House race correct, IN ADDITION to every electoral vote!

When Obama uses, IN ANY WAY, the perfectly legal powers of his office, powers that Republicans gladly handed over to Bush, conservatives are going to go absolutely crazy. The same people who ignore or minimize the absurd vendetta that Sarah Palin pursued with the full weight of her office (and what the SECOND investigation into the matter is about to AGAIN declare is a abuse of power) will be SCREAMING that Obama is Hitler at the head of a throng of “jackbooted thugs.”
Just wait. Predicting their rank hypocrisy is like betting it will rain.

McCain is screaming be very afraid of a house, senate and WH all controlled by Democrats. I say give the Dems a chance to get something done. If the voters don’t like what they do they can dump ’em in four years.
The Republicans have shown themselves to be greedy incompetent corrupt ideologues who can’t govern; now let’s see what the Dems can do.
PS: Fuck you Mr. Cynical

Daddy Love,
You’re absolutely right. They’re already trying to undermine Obama’s presidency, but with their tendencies towards projection, look for them to try to hit Obama with an abuse of power or a corruption charge. They’re looking for the ‘blue dress’ already and always. Hopefully Barack is going to be smarter and more humble than Bill was.
Rujax! spews:
The large numbers of mainstream Republican heavyweights (Powell, Hagel, Eagleburger, Freid, et al.) endorsing Obama will pretty much act as a firewall to the “Illegitimate Presidency” meme that the McSamiacs are trying DESPERATELY (***puddybitch***cough, cough, cyniklown, whoever the fuck “toby” cough is***) to construct.
Just ain’t gonna fly is it…

It sure is looking good for Darcy.
And it’s looking very BAD for the knee-jerk Darcy haters.
I don’t live in the 8th but I’ve sent a few dollars her way. Best of luck to her on Tuesday.

Larry Sabato hasn’t had a ringside seat for the way Darcy has handled what should have been a one-day story on her “econ” degree. Darcy on KOMO yesterday deserves an award for the single worst performance by a political candidate this year (maybe ever). The only other contender might be Rep. Murtha for calling his own constituents racists and then following it up by changing it to rednecks. Lot of blue money went down the drain on DBII, and she poured Liquid Plumber after it. Like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

Gee, Reichart has served most of two terms in office, can’t point to a single significant accomplishment there, and AT BEST has a 50/50 chance of squeeking by in ANOTHER election against a candidate who hasn’t held public office before, and even then only after FURTHER DRAINING the Republican electoral coffers in a desperate attempt not to lose another seat.
Even if Reichart wins this one, the Republican leadership ought to serve notice on him that they are going to start an immediate search for a replacement, and he should be prepared to step aside gracefully “for family reasons”.
After two terms in office, a Congressman should have his electoral base and fundraising well secured, and be willing to spread that support towards other party members in tight races for open seats. The fact that he’s a perpetual “sick man” among the Republican congressmen indicates that they might feel they are well rid of him.

Congrats to the whole Darcy Liberally crew! We all owe Goldy, Sandip, et al. a free round of beers!
Before I jinks anything though, let wish Darcy a broken leg until Wed AM.!

I thought Bill played the Republicans pretty neatly during his administration (making THEM pay for the government shutdown, for example), but still they impeached him “because they could” (as Newt Gingrich said). They won’t have even a bare COngresssional majority this time around.
Republicans still don’t appreciate or credit Obama as the really skilled politician he is, nor do they give sufficient consideration to how Democrats have oarganized since Clinton. NOR how Obama’s nationwide organization will translate into political power once he’s in office. I think that Republicans will go into total “Clinton-crazy” attack mode from day one of an Obama administration, but they’re going to receive a succession of rally nasty and unpleasant surprises.
Today’s Republicans are totally reactive and lurch from one insane idea to another again and again. Obama thinks of everything ahead of tume and already knows what he’s going to do to them.
I think it’s going to be a lot more fun for us Democrats than some people think.

Dave Reichert has served two terms in Congress and still couldn’t point out Washington, DC on a map.

Just in case anyone missed Darcy’s performance yesterday, you can still hear it. It’s a can’t-miss performance.

One of you left wing nuts should send Sabato the link to Darcy’s 16 minute screed on The Commentators this week. As others here have pointed out, it’s likely he would change his mind on his WA-08 prediction if he heard it.
It boggles my mind that in a supposedly Dem-leaning district, the Dems can’t come up with anyone more qualified than Darcy Burnout to run against a well-respected incumbent.
