I guess crime does pay. According to the National Journal, senior staff like Karl Rove, Scooter Libby, and other White House aides implicated in illegally blowing the cover of CIA operative Valerie Plame (not to mention the ensuing cover-up,) have had their salaries raised from $157,000 to $161,000.
Doesn’t say much about “the era of personal responsibility, but then, I suppose with all those legal fees they’ll be paying, they could use the extra pocket money.
christmasghost spews:
oh please!!!!!!!! god…your righteous indignation is pretty transparent here. if you are so worried about things like this where is your post about gregoire and all her raises and spending? a little consistancy would go a long way……..
sheesh……
JDB spews:
Let’s face it, in the Bush administration, you get rewarded for screwing up. Heck, Rove is just one more act of treason away from a Medal of Freedom.
Mr. Cynical spews:
Christmasghost is absolutely RIGHT, as usual.
Goldy is blind to the actions of LEFTIST PINHEADS.
LEFTIST PINHEADS have an exemption from accountability from Goldy.
Goldy…you are a real dink!
herbalizer spews:
Keep up the good work Goldy. The republifucks are going down and we will get to laugh at them the whole way .
Mr. Cynical spews:
herbalizer–
Are you really that ignorant, poor excuse for a columnist Joel Cornholey from the P-I???
Cornholey is your typical fatass LEFTIST PINHEAD who actually is so stupid he fell for a fake Mike McGavick website!!! What a typical LEFTIST PINHEAD.
Joel Cornholey suffers froma terminal case of DICKEY-DO DISEASE. His fat gut sticks out further than his DICKEY-DO!!!
Perhaps all the blood it takes Cornholey to service his mammouth belly explains why there is obviously no blood to service his brain!!
I’m sure you LEFTIST PINHEADS are proud of Cornholey’s excellent research in the McGavick slander.
bill spews:
You know, ghost, I guess you can take that sort of position so long as you are talking to a democrat.
However, for those of us who are not party affiliated who are equally annoyed by both parties dipping into the till and lying constantly, you sound like a 4 year old who gets caught smacking his sister and points at someone else and says ‘they did it first.’
ConservativeFirst spews:
From the link:
“Last year, all “assistants to the president” earned $157,000, which means the pay rates for the 19 who are currently in the top tier of White House public service barely kept pace with inflation.”
Rove and Libby must not be very good at crime, that wasn’t much of a reward.
christmasghost spews:
thank you mr.cynical for the compliment…but i must admit it was a no-brainer.
and “herbalizer”….re-read your post and you will see why most of america is not listening to the far left anymore. childish, crude, and laughably ignorant comments….keep up the good work.
and bill…..i don’t think you could call me party affiliated either. i vote for the best person in every election.as for both parties lying constantly…i think that has more to do with them being POLITICIANS than with party affiliation.what i do have a problem with however with the new and not-so-improved democratic party is their mindless asault on america itself. they have taken blame-america-first and turned it into an art form.the tire slashing, car keying and mindlessly childish things that are done by them i find appalling.and all this from the group of people who supposedly put free speech first and then punish you if they don’t like a bumper sticker on your car or a sign in your yard.
and if goldy and his ilk are so concerned about liars where is the indignant post about ron sims, gregoire, logan, mcdermott…..the list goes on and on. bill clinton wasn’t exactly mr. honesty either was he?
pbj spews:
I guess crime does pay
What is the crime? Please show the indictment and the conviction. Otherwise it is just another unsubstantiated lie by the left.
Democrats are so busy being convicted of their crimes, they presume that the MSM reports amount to an idictment and conviction – they don’t.

These 2 scumbags get $161,000 a year??? Where are the “waste, fraud, and abuse” vigilantes when we need them?
bill spews:
No, he was not. (although he did not, as has been harped upon here over an over, lie to congress, he did lie to the american people.) That being said, clinton’s honesty or gregoires honesty has nothing to do with bush or roves honesty.
It seems to me that if your answer to accusations of rove being dishonest are solely to refer to someone in the democratic party being dishonest, you have not answered the charge, and in fact confirmed that there was a basic problem. Further you seem to be ok with that as a justification for this behavior.
Let me make this clear. It is not ok for anyone in our government to lie, cheat or steal from the american people.
RonK, Seattle spews:
CF @ 7 — Agreed. A Cost Of Living Adjustment is not a raise or a reward.
Now, as to your claims about Cantwell taking special interest PAC money, you are either sadly misinformed or pathetically dishonest. I will assume “misinformed”, until convincingly demonstrated otherwise.
PACs like to send money, and they do. The Cantwell campaign can’t stop them. The campaign can identify PAC contributions and send them back … and it does, as you can verify from the links I gave you, or others of your own choosing.
As noted previously, the public records in these summaries come from PAC FEC filings, which occasionally fall into different reporting periods — hence the (small) positive balances in some periods and categories, and negative PAC contribution balance in others.
As I review the bidding, I understand you’ve already conceded (by abandoning the point) that your earlier “special interest” allegation was only a list of individual contributions summariezed by employer.
You’ve likewise conceded that party leadership PAC’s are not special interest PACs in the ordinary sense (per the OpenSecrets disclaimer).
You’ve acknowledged the 2004 disclaimers, both the one that appears on the page you cited, and the one you should have found for yourself if you clicked the PAC contributions link on that page to confirm your (erroneous) suspicions.
Now you seem to be holding out against total capitulation (and apology?) on the basis of a few thousand dollars in transient PAC contributions whose refunds have not yet made it through the reporting cycle.
Will you choose to participate in this discussion space as a principled conservative? Or the, um, other kind?
ConservativeFirst spews:
RonK @ 14
I think I’ve made my position pretty clear and provided the necessary factual backing, so stop stalking me.
Now back to Rove’s raise.
christmasghost spews:
bill…you are absolutely right. there is no excuse for anyone in either party to lie, cheat or steal. when rove is actually charged with a crime and then is convicted i will be the first to say he’s gotta go.there is never any justification for this kind of behavior. and that’s my point….we will never ,as a people, be able to hold any of these people accountable until WE ALL hold everyone to the same standard. and that has not been happening.
but to take rumors and turn them into scary stories to scare all the little liberals with……pointless.
we don’t need to make up boogie men…we already really have them. and they are not members of either party.
and donna/don…….oh, please keep talking. you can’t imagine how it makes me laugh.

You are one sorry excuse of an apologist for ethical lapses! Does an unethical person have to be convicted of a crime before being removed from a position of public trust for violating that trust? I’ll bet if a Democratic legislator or Gregoire-appointed state official got in trouble with the Legislative Ethics Board or Executive Ethics Board, you’d be screaming not only for their heads but also for Berendt’s head and Gregoire’s head, even though the person was not charged much less convicted of a crime. Typical fucking Republican hypocrite.

Oh that is rich Roger. Democrat Jim McDermott HAS been in trouble with the ethics board. I don’t recall you EVER calling for HIM ot step down. Pot meet kettle.

Rove should get twice his current salary as a raise. The RNC could never spend enough to get the left wing fired up and busy for this long. As soon as you guys calm down GW will have 2-3 seats on the SCOTUS and 2006 mid-terms done.

PJB: We’ll view RR posting a reply to Jim McDimwitt when he answers the entry on Repub union workers dues being refunded for illegal Democratic campaign activities by the union. Only a true clear thinking lefty like Dr E. sometimes would fess up to calling a spade a spade. You will be waiting a long time for RR to reply. Remember we are still waiting for RR to provide the link that proved someone on the right called Joe Wilson special names.

rujax206@21………truly one of the more innane posts ever. congrats….even for a silly liberal you made absolutely no sense. but it’s good to note that you and roger and donna obviously all went to the same school.
and slept through every class.
RonK, Seattle spews:
ConservativeFirst @ 15 — I’m talking to you.
You made an accusation which, while it’s no big deal in my book, turns out to be factually false.
You made repeated attempts to muster factual support, but each attampt failed.
You could have simply acknowledged your error, but you chose otherwise.
If I understand your last-ditch defense, it’s that OpenSecrets shows a nonzero amount under Cantwell’s “List PAC Contributions” page for 2006.
The only significant item here is $10,000 listed under “Labor”. Click “Expand All”, and you’ll see this detailed as a pair of $5000 contributions by the United Transportation Union (UTU), dated 1/4/2005.
Directing your attention to Cantwell’s page of transaction detail on the FEC site itself, you’ll see a pair of $5000 contributions by UTU, dated 1/4/2005. (See the original document images at reference #’s 25990044999 and 25990045000.)
Next, you’ll see a pair of contributions refunded to UTU, $5000 each, dated 1/11/2005. (See originals under image reference # 25990833570.)
The OpenSecrets entry — derived, as always, from FEC data — is an apparent transcription error, as you can readily verify now that you know where to look.
Is this the sum and substance of your defense? (You are on defense now, since you ventured an unfounded attack. I believe it’s called “bearing false witness”.) Or have I missed something?

Roger Rabbit spews:
Putty Brains @ 22
I don’t have a problem with unions spending their members’ dues to promote candidates and policies that are pro-worker, in a world in which corporations spend billions to promote anti-worker policies and fill their corporate bank accounts with government money collected as taxes from the paychecks of workers. What we need in this country today is some of those old-time union men who knew how to deal with the plutocrats’ hired thugs.
Roger Rabbit spews:

christmasghost spews:
roger@18…….don’t you think that someone should actually be proven guilty before they are removed? isn’t that what our system of justice is based on? not trashing people because someone started a rumor.
and right now there are just as many rumors out there that wilson exposed his own wife. would you like people to go after him?
maybe some real evidence would be a good thing.
and let’s face it….for the modern liberal, karl rove is the ultimate boogie man. and what really drives you guys crazy is that he is so damn good at what he does.his middle name should be ‘machiavelian’. just admit it, that’s what really bothers you. because if it was just the [maybe] fact of him exposing a CIA agent….you need to be really really pissed at the clinton administration.
and i can’t remember who said that plame was a “deep cover operative”..but that was one of the best laughs i have had in weeks. if she had been a deep cover operative you wouldn’t even know her name, much less that she worked for the CIA. when real operatives die they only get a star at CIA headquarters…no name even then.
Puddybud spews:
Rupert Wabbit: You missed the point again. I am writing about Republican union members who do not support the democratic union leadership decisions sending their union dues for democratic candidates. If they complain, the money is supposed to be held back from those causes. The unions don’t perform that task as per the law.
So I’m still waiting for those links who called Joe Wilson names and your McDimwitt take on being a law-breaking congressperson!!!

Rupert Wabbit: He broke the law by passing illegally acquired phone wiretaps to the NY Slimes. The couple who had the scanner were found guilty and fined $500. In federal district court the Boehler vs. McDermott case was thrown out. In the Federal Court of Appeals McDermott was found guilty.
caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/cgi-bin/getcase.pl?court=dc&navby=case&no=987156a
Excerpt:”For the reasons stated, we hold that § 2511(1)(c) and the Florida statute, see supra note 2, are not unconstitutional as applied in this case. Accordingly, the judgment of the district court is reversed and the case is remanded.
So ordered.”
Case goes to US Supreme Court. Supreme Court remands it back to federal court. Federal Court in 2004 rules against McDermott:
http://www.dcd.uscourts.gov/98-0594-082004-2.pdf
Excerpt:”As a result, the conclusion to be drawn from that court’s opinion is that even though 18 U.S.C. § 2511 does not specifically prohibit the receipt of illegally obtained information, Defendant did not lawfully obtain the material if he knew of the illegality of the Martins’ disclosure at the time he voluntarily accepted it. The Court of Appeals thus examined the scenario in which a source obtains information illegally and passes it to an intermediary, and that court found that an intermediary’s present knowledge of the illegality of a source’s disclosure at the time the intermediary accepts it renders the intermediary’s obtaining of the information unlawful.”
http://www.firstamendmentcente.....x?id=14275 – He owes court costs of $600K
http://www.firstamendmentcente.....x?id=14405 – ID10T McDimwitt is appealing to the same appeals court again who said he was guilty!!
Rupert: You have to stop screwing those furry friends of yours and read more.
Puddybud spews:
One more thing Rupert, McDimwitt had to resign from his Ranking Democrat Ethics seat on the Ethics Committee with the conviction.
http://www.dwt.com/related_lin.....er2001.htm
Excerpt: “The couple gave the tape to McDermott, the then-ranking Democratic member of the House Ethics Committee, along with a cover letter stating that the tape contained a conference overheard on a “scanner” and that the Martins understood they would be granted immunity.
Indeed, McDermott was not as uninvolved with the interceptors as the respondents in Bartnicki. A woman from his staff allegedly had had a discussion with the Martins – after they intercepted the telephone call but before they delivered the tape to McDermott – during which immunity for the Martins’ illegal interception was discussed.”
See Rupert, the stoopid congressman from Seattle engaged in illegal practices and then he goes to Baghdad, denounces the US, and accepts $5000 for his defense fund from a Saddam henchman? What a guy for Seattle. You all in his Seattle district don’t care about a convicted criminal representing YOU!!!
