Who could have predicted that building a legislative coalition where Pam Roach got plumb assignments might not work out well?
A report says Sen. Pam Roach of Auburn violated the Senate’s policy in March by verbally attacking a Senate Republican staffer charged with upholding sanctions against Roach that prevented her from having direct contact with staff. The report was compiled by a subcommittee created last summer solely to investigate incidents involving Roach.
When reached by phone Tuesday, Roach said she didn’t know anything about the report.
“I’m looking into it,” Roach said. She declined to comment further.
I mean, never bet against Pam Roach being an asshole. But I would have guessed that it would have taken at least until the session for her to abuse staff again. Now we see that as Rodney Tom was scheming to give her the chair of the Government Operations, Tribal Relations & Elections Committee, she had already gone back to her old ways. Rodney Tom should probably apologize to the staffer at the very least.
Tom has said the sanctions against Roach would be lifted, even though they recently were reaffirmed under a legal settlement announced in September. Tom did not return a phone message Tuesday seeking comment.
Courage.

I disagree. Rodney Tom should, at the very least, resign his seat, which he obtained by fraudulently misrepresenting himself as a Democrat to the voters of his district.

In fairness to Pam Roach (and yes, just typing that phrase makes my skin crawl), the verbal abuse occurred last March – ten months ago – long before she was rehabilitated to Tom’s new caucus.
That actually makes Tom look worse, though, because he created and decided to lead his “majority” knowing that Roach was still acting out, and knowing that his grab for power would give her far greater power as well. That’s grossly irresponsible.
Of course, creating a Republican majority, given the nature of that party these days, is by definition grossly irresponsible, so it’s not too surprising that he wasn’t troubled by giving Roach more power, either.

I’m wondering, among the 100,000+ comments RR is so proud of, whether there is one in which he demanded that Arlen Specter resign his US Senate seat for having misrepresented himself as a Republican to the voters of the state of Pennsylvania.
Actually, no, I’m not wondering at all.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@3 Specter didn’t switch parties after being elected. He ran in the Democratic primary and lost. No Republican voter was deceived into voting for a candidate running as a Democrat, and Democratic voters apparently weren’t convinced that this man, who had been a Republican his whole life, had become a Democrat.
Kornflake, you don’t have to be a dumbass every day of the week. You’re allowed to take a vacation now and then.

Specter didn’t switch parties after being elected.
WTF? He was elected in 2004, as well as in earlier elections. By your rationale he should have resigned for the same reason you claim Tom should have resigned.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@5 You don’t have a fucking clue about what I said, do you?
Serial conservative spews:
RR, you’ll find that most of us don’t have a fucking clue about what you are trying to say.

It really shouldn’t be this close, that a couple of legislaters should be able to switch sides and let a loudmouth bully control their staffs.
In addition to the national elections, we need to pay attention to EVERY election. I’m a bit perplexed when filling out a ballot to find VERY LITTLE online about the candidates – especially for the local races (city council, port commissioners, municiple judges, etc.).
Our state should have at least a 2/3 Democratic majority in both houses. And potential Republican up-and-comers should have their dreams crushed in resounding defeats, even if they are running for nothing more than dog-catcher.
