U2, Springsteen, Elton John/Billy Joel, Brittney Spears, Kenny Chesney, Jonas Bros, Dave Matthews Band, Fleetwood Mac, Metallica. One country artist on that list. Toby Keith toured most of 2009. Not on the list.

I attended the rally. It was uplifting. Thousands of well-behaved, polite people (I didn’t see anyone packing a sidearm) standing in the pissing rain because they give a shit about this country. Hell, the cops were so unconcerned about misbehavior that they were gathered together to the side, joking and hardly watching the crowd.
If it wasn’t clear before, it is certainly clear now–John Stewart is one of the most influential people in the country. He is a voice of hope and reason, and I’m sure glad he’s on our team. The wingnuts have no one of his status. He doesn’t use hate to try to divide us, he uses humor to try to unite us. Have Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh ever made an effort to unite Americans? Given the message of today’s rally, I’ll try to refrain from troll-bashing today. At least for an hour. Except for Cynny. I get to bash him.

I grew up listening to country from the 50’s and 60’s & love the old stuff and the new alt-country, alt-bluegrass stuff. The stuff they play on commercial radio is crap (hmm… maybe that’s why radio’s dying, but Pandora’s growing like crazy) Have you heard The Lonesome Sisters?
Reading interviews with all the old country folks in In The Country of Country by Nicholas Dawidoff, all the old timers hate the new “Tight Pants” country that’s on the radio, but are digging the Alt. stuff.
