The Reichert folks are getting scared. From Friday’s Washington Post:
Republicans are also increasingly nervous about the seat held by Rep. David G. Reichert (R-Wash.). Darcy Burner, a former Microsoft executive, has pounded Reichert for voting with the GOP majority in Washington, hoping to capitalize on widespread frustration there. In a sign of nervousness, the NRCC recently increased its spending on television ads in the district.
Burner wants help from the DCCC. “Anytime you spend millions of dollars communicating with voters, it is going to have an impact,” Burner said.
Burner is definitely getting some help from the DCCC, but she can’t be guaranteed all she needs. Two years ago Dave Ross was comfortably up in the polls a couple weeks before the election, and just as the DCCC confidently pulled out, the NRCC aggressively moved in, plastering the airwaves with attack ads. Ross simply didn’t have the resources to respond.
The best way to avoid a repeat of 2004 is to directly give Burner the help she needs. That means you.
Only problem is both Dave Ross and Darcy Burner are/were very weak candidates. Once the Dems come up with a strong candidate (e.g. Ross Hunter), he/she could win on his/her own merits…right now, Darcy’s chances are completely at the whim of Bush haters…not Darcy lovers.

Sorry to remind you that you’re often wrong TT but I am someone who is actually very impressed with Darcy. Unlike you, I’ve sat down and talked with the woman. She’s quick on her feet, her positions sound like those of someone who actually believes what she says and who wants to impact Congress in a positive way.
Because she is a Democrat with a family full of republicans, she understands how the other side feels. And she takes that into account.
For someone who showed up out of the blue, she is actually an amazing candidate.

Another “liberal” that is only tolerant of people that agree with him on every topic.
Just for the record, the vast majority of Christians belong to churches that the right wing considers “liberal”. These churches have made (and continue to make) public statements against the war, many offering counseling and assistance to people applying for Conscientious Objector status and a few going as far as to offer sanctuary for people refusing to deploy.
Many (most?) of the Democratic candidates are active church members. I’ve volunteered to help one of them, my State Senate candidate, Derek Kilmer. Both he and his wife are active church members. They’re good people.
In earlier posts, I’ve asked why we let the far right wing define “Christian” for us. Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson not only do not speak for all Christians, they don’t speak for most Christians. And yes, we do object when they say that they do.
It almost seems that some “liberals” are simply using the liberal agenda as a tool to attack groups that they don’t like, in this case, Christians. If the neocons were anti-Christian, they would be big fans of President Bush, and would be supporting his policies.
The book referenced here could well be very helpful in getting these folks to realize that they have, indeed, been duped by people talking the talk, but refusing to walk the walk. It could help bring some of the very conservative Christians over to the side of the Democrats, by showing them that we really are the party that supports their beliefs.
And we really do support most of the core beliefs of Christianity. Charity, understanding, compassion. Putting the needs of others ahead of our own. If we could get past the far-right lies about what we believe in, these folks would find that they agree with us far more often than not.
But then we have folks over here like RightEqualsStupid who have no interest whatsoever in dialog and understanding. He just doesn’t like Christians. They keep telling him that he isn’t the center of the universe.

I keep getting mailers slamming Darcy on immigration, of all things. I think the issue is a loser for the GOP here in the 8th. Affluent voters in the 8th depend on cheap immigrant labor for landscaping and cld care, they feel favorable toward immigration in tech companies, fewer poor people (who might buy the “they want your jobs” line) can afford to live here, and really, it just points up Dave Rubberstamp’s failure (with his GOP buddies) to pass any meaningful reform.

The irony of 2004 is that Alex Alben had most of the resources to fend off the RNC attacks in 2004. It was a blind side attack by a hand full of fellow Democrats in a 5th district meeting that helped bog down his candidacy. The problem with donk are you want it handed to you. You choose simple college classes that don’t expand the thinking mind. You want to be told what to think by your professors instead of questioning their premises and hypotheses. Then in the workplace you need hand-holding and guidance of an entry level employee seven to ten years later. Since mgmt sees you as chaff, you get blown away in the layoffs. With no leadership or thinking skills (never cultivated when you were younger), you struggle to find another job.
Now you have the audacity to complain the economy is bad. It’s the economy stupid. If you could think on your feet you’d have another well paying job.

Aw, I’m crying for the poor, poor Republicans who just can’t sem to write a law that Democrats will vote for. But that’s their strategy, and I can’t get to worked up when the democrats use the only weapon they have to stop them.
If Republicans were willing to write a law that both sides coudl agree on, then they wodn’t have to worry abotu a filibuster, would they? I am sure you’ll be all against eht filibuster when the minority Republicans use it, right?
