The Gregoire campaign alerted me this afternoon to this news release from the National Letter Carrier’s union blasting some ads created by the Republican Governors Association to aid Dino Rossi.
The television ad, being run by the Republican Governors Association in support of GOP gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi, shows a man walking a dog, and then a letter carrier (with satchel and mail), leering at young children near an ice cream truck, while in the audio background a woman depicting a mother warns that some convicted sex offenders have not properly registered with law enforcement agencies during the Gregoire administration.
“This television ad is beneath contempt,” said NALC President William H. Young. “It is ludicrous and shameful that the Republican Governors Association would stoop so low as to portray America’s most trusted government agents in this manner just to pump up a specious political argument against the incumbent governor.”
Yeah, that sounds pretty low, although I must confess I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing this particular piece of GOP Party handiwork. Let us know in comments if it pops up on the YouTube.
Talk about “leave no sleaze behind.” I guess they haven’t caught on that regular people get disgusted with demagoguery surrounding this issue. The state House Republicans tried it and look where it got them. The Speaker’s Roundtable, one of the Republican organizing committees, can now meet at a booth at McDonald’s.
As I recall, the fake sex offender postcard was met with widespread editorial board condemnation in this state. Just sayin’.
Yup – the republicans cannot even do a hit job without offending the wrong party. You would think that with all the sex offenders in the republican party, they could have put a republican legislator in the position of being the sex offender. But no – they had to pick an unlikely mailman. Even the areas where republicans have the expertise – they “screw up”.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
People work mighty, mighty hard at being perpetually offended.
One must wonder who in the Gregoire Campaign dreamed this up and took it to the Union.
Maybe it was Christine herself.
The sleaze coming out of the Rossi campaign and their fellow travelers has reached epic proportions. Accusing Gregoire of colluding with the Indians on gambling, when in fact the agreement limited state-wide gambling. Now they accuse her of letting sex-offenders out – when in fact the “homeless” sex offenders were reduced 16%.
Those pesky facts keep getting in the way of the republican arguments. But hey, why bother with the facts when you can lie to win?
The sex offenders, and the terrorists– they’re everywhere. Get the wimmens and the chillins behind the barricades. Lock ‘n load, boyz.

I’m sure no one has missed the irony of Republicans warning the public about undocumented sex offenders taking advantage of their children…..they are certainly taking a wide stance on this topic.

@6: I think he is screwing his hypocrisy. He should go. Just like Ted Stevens, Tom DeLay, Duke Cunningham, Larry Craig, Alberto Gonzalez, Mark Foley and the many other corrupt or unethical or perverted republicans – and all the people who did favors for Jack Abramoff including Grover Norquist and Ralph Reed – who laundered his money.
Rossi has offended anyone who is not his ‘base’ which includes native americans, Seattle, but not Sammamish, and now letter carriers. Who’s left to vote for him?
It would have been just delightful if the previous slot which so cleverly associated “sex offenders” with “homeless people” had inspired some genius to toss a Molotov into Tent City.
