It is fashionable around these parts to criticize Seattle Rep. Jim McDermott as a do-nothing congressman who fails to bring home the bacon (you know, unlike Washington’s paragon of something, Rep. Norm Dicks). So I guess I shouldn’t expect our local media to break with the meme by covering the active role McDermott’s played in health reform negotiations, including the four key provisions he authored in the House version of the bill.
McDimwit spews:
Bet you dollars to dognuts that Baghdad J wrote the section (c. page 1,530) requiring nutrition data to be visible through those little windows on snack vending machines.
Nevermind muckracking “personal” scandals and Goldy’s ridiculously high standards or probity and propriety. Why hasn’t McDermott been muckraked into prison where he belongs?
Jolly Roger Rabbit asserts that Gingrich was broomed from the House for corruption. Wrong as usual. Newt wasn’t corrupt, but McDermott is. That’s why McDermott has a defense fund to get gimps like Rabbit and the rest of you to bail out Baghdad J from the consequenses of his corruption. That’s why corrupt Seattle keeps sending him back to Congress instead of sending him to a federal pen.
SJ Troll Patrol spews:
2. Goldy
Seems to me that you are contradicting yourself. McDermitt is part of the same GOD* politics that gives us Brad Owen and Briant Sontag.
Diminishing criticisms of smiling Jim as being merely about pork is unfair. This District has many very real NATIONAL concerns that our effin rep should be effective in his pursuing.
Healthcare is certainly one BUT haing text form his office staff appear in the Bill is a lot less impressive than securing a role at the table for major local interests . UWSM, SCCC, Hutch, Group Health should be playing roles comparable to the roles being played by Mayo, Pilgrim, and the Cleve Clinic. For Jimmy McD to get that done, however, he would need to have ties here at hime that he has eschewed.
Same issues are about to arise in education. Runcan is goin, rightly, to screw Washington. A real Rep wpould have a presence locally that would help move the stakeholders here so we could work with Obama’s guys. McD?

Norm Dicks? Isn’t he the guy who keeps Boeing jobs in Washington?

@1 “Bet you dollars to dognuts that Baghdad J wrote the section (c. page 1,530) requiring nutrition data to be visible through those little windows on snack vending machines.”
If he is, I’d vote for him! I want to know what’s in the shit Corporate America tries to feed me before I swallow it. If you don’t care, then I say, to each his own.
“Nevermind muckracking ‘personal’ scandals and Goldy’s ridiculously high standards or probity and propriety. Why hasn’t McDermott been muckraked into prison where he belongs?”
Someone has to have high standards of probit and propriety, because Republicans sure don’t. So, it’s either Goldy and us, or nobody.
“Jolly Roger Rabbit asserts that Gingrich was broomed from the House for corruption. Wrong as usual. Newt wasn’t corrupt”
Oh? He presided over a Congress that was a model of probity and propriety? The taped phone conversation that McDermott leaked (but didn’t record) didn’t have to do with an ethics investigation of Newt? Of course it did. That’s why the Republicans got so upset about it.
“That’s why McDermott has a defense fund to get gimps like Rabbit and the rest of you to bail out Baghdad J from the consequenses of his corruption. That’s why corrupt Seattle keeps sending him back to Congress instead of sending him to a federal pen.”
I haven’t donated to McDermott’s defense fund yet. Thanks for reminding me, I forgot to do that, and I’ll pencil it in my “Things To Do” list. Although wiretapping is illegal, subverting the government of the United States is even more illegal, and sometimes you have to do wrong to prevent a greater wrong. McDermott should get the Presidential Medal Of Freedom for what he did. In the meantime, I’ll do my part to keep sending him back to Congress, because we need people like him in Congress.
Chris Stefan spews:
Jim who?
uptown spews:
McDermott…
He’s the guy that got 83% of the vote in ’08; otherwise in this state, Inslee came closest with only 68%.
uptown spews:
Jim also got 58,000 more votes than Inslee.

Gee …
and this great popularity translates into how much clout?

Puddy has no problem with 2217. Inna cities need doctors.
The two of the other three are standard progressive pablum.
Section 571. This section promotes parity in health benefits by expanding the definition of “eligible beneficiary” so that domestic partners can enjoy the same tax benefits with regard to health insurance coverage, as married couples do. So anybody cohabitating can qualify Jim? Expanding the definition of “eligible beneficiary” means what DimWitt?
Section 1904 is scary. This section will provide voluntary home visitation for families with young children and expecting families to improve the well-being, health, and development of children. If expectant momma isn’t doing something right per some bureaucrapo, what draconian activities are planned? This is too open for interpretation.
The last one sounds strange. Anytime you offer self-referral disclosure protocol, it sounds like a lousy lawyer self-referring. “I know a great lawyer. He resides on the HA threads.” – as Roger refers someone to one of his comments. :)
