I’m filling in again for Frank Shiers this week, Weds thru Fri, 9PM to 1AM on Newsradio 710-KIRO.
9PM: Should ex-felons have the right to vote?
Florida of all places just enacted legislation that quickly restores voting and other civil rights to convicted felons after they’ve finished serving their sentence, but a similar bill in the Democratic-controlled Washington Legislature (SB 5530) remains stuck in committee. But no less an authority than the American Correctional Association says that our current felon disenfranchisement laws “serve no correctional purpose – and may actually contribute to recidivism.” Jennifer Shaw from the ACLU of Washington joins me for the hour.
10PM: Do you remember Seattle?
Local writer Clark Humphrey joins me for the hour to talk about his book Vanishing Seattle, which explores a city where timber and fish were more lucrative than airplanes and computers, a place of kitschy architecture and homespun humor, a place bounding with hope for a brighter future (as seen at the 1962 World’s Fair). What do you miss (or not miss) from your vanishing Seattle? Call in and give me, a relative newcomer, a well needed history lesson.
Plus an update on the expanded pet food recall, some good old fashioned Ann Coulter bashing, and more fascinating conversation! Tune in tonight (or listen to the live stream) and give me a call: 1-877-710-KIRO (5476).
Coming up: My favorite Republican, Gen. JC Christian of the blog Jesus’ General joins me Friday at 11PM to give us his peculiar insight into the minds of the extreme far-right.

See, this way, when Dick Cheney leaves office, he can do business with all those terroist nations without violating US laws because Halliburton will no longer be a US company.
Don’t it jes’ make you proud to be a conservative?

Little Danny really stuck his foot in it today with his insulting comments about Rep. Lynne Kessler’s husband. Most embarrassing were the “woo wooooo” train sounds at the end of his rant.
Meanwhile, Mommy Pam went off last week about the lamp on her desk being changed. This is completely in character, given her infamous “WHO TOUCHED MY ROSES” meltdown a couple of years ago.

Dear Muslim Terrorist Plotter/Planner/Funder/Enabler/Apologist,
You do not know me. But I am on the lookout for you. You are my enemy. And I am yours.
I am John Doe.
I am traveling on your plane. I am riding on your train. I am at your bus stop. I am on your street. I am in your subway car. I am on your lift.
I am your neighbor. I am your customer. I am your classmate. I am your boss.
I am John Doe.
I will never forget the example of the passengers of United Airlines Flight 93 who refused to sit back on 9/11 and let themselves be murdered in the name of Islam without a fight.
I will never forget the passengers and crew members who tackled al Qaeda shoe-bomber Richard Reid on American Airlines Flight 63 before he had a chance to blow up the plane over the Atlantic Ocean.
I will never forget the alertness of actor James Woods, who notified a stewardess that several Arab men sitting in his first-class cabin on an August 2001 flight were behaving strangely. The men turned out to be 9/11 hijackers on a test run.
I will act when homeland security officials ask me to “report suspicious activity.”
I will embrace my local police department’s admonition: “If you see something, say something.”
I am John Doe.
I will protest your Jew-hating, America-bashing “scholars.”
I will petition against your hate-mongering mosque leaders.
I will raise my voice against your subjugation of women and religious minorities.
I will challenge your attempts to indoctrinate my children in our schools.
I will combat your violent propaganda on the Internet.
I am John Doe.
I will support law enforcement initiatives to spy on your operatives, cut off your funding, and disrupt your murderous conspiracies.
I will oppose all attempts to undermine our borders and immigration laws.
I will resist the imposition of sharia principles and sharia law in my taxi cab, my restaurant, my community pool, the halls of Congress, our national monuments, the radio and television airwaves, and all public spaces.
I will not be censored in the name of tolerance.
I will not be cowed by your Beltway lobbying groups in moderate clothing. I will not cringe when you shriek about “profiling” or “Islamophobia.”
I will put my family’s safety above sensitivity. I will put my country above multiculturalism.
I will not submit to your will. I will not be intimidated.
I am John Doe.

More than half of the Democrats in the U.S. House voted to allow the “lying imams” to sue the airline passengers who reported their suspicious activities:
http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2007/roll200.xml
In our state, Democrats Adam Smith, Brian Baird, and Norm Dicks did the sensible thing, and joined all the House Republicans in voting to shut down the malicious Islamo-fascist lawsuit.
By contrast, Jay Inslee, Rick Larsen and Jim McDermott voted to allow the Islamo-fascist lawsuit. GOP strength is greatest in Larsen’s district, possible in Inslee’s district, and practically non-existent in McDermott’s district.
Most of the Democrat friends of the “lying imams” are from safe Democrat districts. But there are probably enough from swing districts to give the House back to the GOP in 2008 if they are voted out of office.

You’ve been labeling anyone that has committed a crime in the last fifty years a “Democrat”, your posts have taken on a tone that could best be described as ranting and you’ve started doing long cut-and-paste posts.
So, c’mon Mr. Pope. Let us in on it. What is Mr. Esser offering you? Are the Republicans going to back you for another try at becoming a Judge? Maybe a State House seat?

@13 I remember where you were on Sept. 11, too — hiding under a rock, like the Commander-Asleep:
“During the transition between administrations, National Security Adviser Sandy Berger arranged several extensive briefings on this last subject for Bush’s incoming national security adviser, Condoleeza Rice, and others on the Bush team, including Vice President Cheney. One briefing lasted half a day. Berger told them that Osama bin Laden was an ‘existential threat’ and told them that he wanted ‘to underscore how important this issue is.’ In another briefing, Richard Clarke, head of counterrorism in the NSC, the single most knowledgeable expert in the government, gave them a complete tutorial on the subject. In yet another briefing, CIA officials were brought in to go over all the intelligence available on terrorism.
“Don Kerrick, a three-star general and outgoing deputy national security adviser, overlapped for four months with the new Bush people. He submitted a memo for the new National Security Council warning of the danger of terrorism. ‘We are going to be struck again,’ he wrote. But as Kerrick explained to me, he received no answer to his memo. ‘They didn’t respond,’ he said. ‘They never responded. It was not high on their priority list. I was never invited to one meeting. They never asked me to do anything. They were not focusing. They didn’t see terrorism as the big megaissue that the Clinton administration saw it as. They were concentrated on what they thought were higher priorities than terrorism.’ The Principals meeting of national security officials took up terrorism only once, after constant pressure from Clarke, on September 4, 2001, and at that meeting they discussed using unmanned Predator drone spy aircraft, but no decision was made. ‘Unfortunately,’ said Kerrick, ‘September 11 gave them something to focus on.’”

@13 Kiroking, I was making coffee and getting ready to go to work when Mrs. Rabbit phoned and told me to turn on the TV. I couldn’t believe what I saw! In the days and weeks ahead, I was heartened to see our country pull together, and I was especially heartened by the outpouring of financial and emotional support for the firefighters, and for the victims and their families. On the day of this attack, and in the immediate aftermath, I never dreamed that Republicans would stoop so low as to exploit this act of war against all of us for promoting partisan hatreds and divisions within our own country. I can’t put in words how angry I still am at you fucking lowlife traitor bastards for doing that. A small part — a very small part — of that anger was expressed by the American people at the polls last November. Get ready for a tsunami, because there’s more of that coming your way. Now, go fuck yourself and pet your armadillo, you unpatriotic America-hating piece of shit!!!
Roger Rabbit spews:
The hell of it is, George W. Bush could have been the popular leader of a united nation — enthusiastically supporte by Democrats and Republicans alike — if he hadn’t chosen to take the partisan low road. The Bush presidency will go down as one of history’s greatest missed opportunities, and George W. Bush will be remembered as a miserable failure. He has no one to blame except himself. He is his own worst enemy.

Democrat Seattle Pro-Illegal Alien Policies Enabled University of Washington Shooter
Seattle Post-Intelligencer, April 4, 2007
The man who killed Rebecca Griego at the University of Washington before taking his own life Monday had been living in the United States illegally for more than 10 years, immigration officials said Wednesday.
A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman said Jonathan Rowan arrived legally at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport in March 1996, carrying his visa waiver he obtained as a British citizen. That allowed him to stay in the country for 90 days.
He used the name “Jonathan Rowan.”
After the 90 days expired, Rowan was in the country illegally, but he remained here, living almost underground. He worked odd jobs, including buying and selling cars and setting up Web sites. He had aliases and fake passports. And he lived in homes that were destined for demolition, so he moved frequently.
…
Immigration agents prepared an administrative immigration warrant for his arrest when he wasn’t found, but Rowan eluded them.
Immigration agents weren’t the only officials who came up empty-handed in a search for Rowan. A warrant for his arrest for failing to show up for a drunken-driving sentencing in January and a court order issued in March to keep him away from Griego couldn’t be served on him because he couldn’t be found. UW police also couldn’t find him in mid-March after Griego wanted to press charges against him for calling her at her university office and threatening to kill her.
Seattle police arrested Rowan for drunken driving June 30, but officers apparently didn’t know he was in the country illegally. City law [passed by the all-Democrat Seattle City Clowncil] forbids Seattle police from inquiring about immigration status.
Rowan had an old Washington state identification card, showed the officer a European license and said he hadn’t obtained a state license, according to a police report.

Bullshit wedge issue. Yeah. Let’s throw all our resources after the illegals, and surely the tragedy at UW the other day would have been avoided. Sure. In the wingnut disopitan universe, it would have happened that way.
Richard Pope spews:
More people in the United States are killed EVERY year by illegal aliens than the number of our troops that have been killed in the four years since the start of the Iraq war. 4,300 people in 2006 were killed either by homicide or drunk driving committed by illegal aliens.
I hardly call this a “bullshit wedge issue”.
Richard Pope spews:
We could deport the vast majority of our illegal aliens, using a small fraction of the resources that we are devoting to our war effort in Iraq. And it would also make our country much safer, than the war effort in Iraq has done.
SeattleDan spews:
Sure. Absolutely. And how much fucking money would that cost? And how many of those murders are immigrant on immigrant killings? Have the facts on that one there, pardner?
SeattleDan spews:
And none of which explains your xenophobia. yep, all those illegals, hell, most of those legals just aren’t like us and we need to expel them bad guys.
