1PM – Should WA state ban online poker… and if so, is it even technically possible to enforce the law?
Is it a coincidence that the representatives who are most against online gambling, also receive the largest donations from Casino-Americans?

The warmest years on record were the dust-bowl 1930s, and the “record” started a mere geologic minute before that, at the end of the Little Ice Age, c. 1850. Not much of a record before that, aside from the Greenland cores that devastate Gore’s Global Catastrophe catechism.
Cherry-picking data from heat-sink recording stations, almost all of them less than 150 years old, is a shameless way to load an argument. Shameful, too, was the recent attempt to claim that a recent October was the warmest-on-record, a shrieking claim made possible only by substituting September data for October’s. Etc.
Yesterday Dave Ross, a lefty little Mercer Island proletarian elitist, issued a pro forma call for a panacea, regulation. Ah yes, if only Bush had pushed Barney toward regulatory oversight of Fannie and Freddie — back when Representative Frank said or implied that it was almost wacist (racist) to suggest that Mae and Mac were messed up — there’d be no manic recession now.
Actually, both Democrats and Frankophobes like me believed that affordable housing was the American dream. The Carter-Clinton Community Reinvestment Acts and the Republican candidate for president in 2004 wanted government to push business to erase their red lines and cut corners, to get citizens and non-citizens into homes. Thomas Woods Jr., a von Mises-Hayek conservative, writes that regulation could not regulate against political consensus.
And then there’s this from New York Review, 12 February:

That link goes to a think tank who expert is listed as having a PhD, but not in what discipline. If you look at his job history, it appears he has a writing background, not a science background, so I’m a bit surprised he “found” this error.
I know we all wish science and finance was intuitive so we could all just “know” it because it feels right, but data and math and research and experiments must happen. Climate Change/Global Warming is real and must be dealt to be able to feed all of the people of the future.
