I guess this is the kinda thing that many in the teabagger rabble fervently wish for President Obama and the Democratic Congress:
Polish President Lech Kaczynski and some of the country’s highest military and civilian leaders died on Saturday when the presidential plane crashed as it came in for a landing in thick fog in western Russia, killing 96, officials said.
Russian and Polish officials said there were no survivors on the 26-year-old Tupolev, which was taking the president, his wife and staff to events marking the 70th anniversary of the massacre of thousands of Polish officers by Soviet secret police.
The crash devastated the upper echelons of Poland’s political and military establishments. On board were the army chief of staff, national bank president, deputy foreign minister, army chaplain, head of the National Security Office, deputy parliament speaker, civil rights commissioner and at least two presidential aides and three lawmakers, the Polish foreign ministry said.
It’s not hard to imagine the Pat Robertson types celebrating such a tragedy as a vengeful act of God. I wonder if the Polish opposition is as twisted politically as ours is here in the U.S., or if democracy is still so novel and cherished to them that they honor it even in losing?

The Polish nation is in shock and mourns having lost their president and all you can think of is a cheap shot.
But then…class was never your strong point.
For everything I agree with Goldy on, I have to say I’m with #2. One of the people that was on that plane was one of the sparks of the Solidarity Movement. That plane was full of people trying to reconcile the past of the Soviet army’s genocide of 20,000 Poles, including their decendants. Putin, ex KGB is “in charge” of the investigation, the same organization that liquidated many Poles, Jews, and anyone else who had the nerve to not conform to Soviet rule. Makes me wonder….but is so irrelevant to the Teabaggers it is a non-sequetor.

A) Tea partiers disagree with Obama’s policies.
B) A tiny minority of tea partiers have made threats against politicians.
C) Therefore, “many” tea partiers want to see Obama and the Congress dead.
This is all true enough, but it would have been better to have waited to make this point until after they’ve extinguished the wreckage.
For now, R.I.P. It’s too bad this part of the world does not get attention in the US media until something awful like this happens.

No one wants to make a martyr of Oba-Mao or the Marxist Dummocrats. They are doing a great job of stupidity assisted political suicide with no help from anyone.

So here we see the ‘bagger manifesto in all its glory. What is “the movement” about? What do the ‘baggers stand for?
Making a ruckus. Getting loud, getting angry, getting threatening. And apparently not a whole hell of a lot else. Since for all his “libtardo” cred, Goldy becomes one of them just by calling for these street tactics.
Because, of course, there is absolutely nothing substantively related to public policy at the base of the ‘bagger movement philosophy. Absolutely nothing. It is a philosophy of angry resentment. Resentment without a purpose. A perfectly sad random assortment of resentment vaguely directed at “the man” so long as “the man” isn’t one of them. Or at least not someone they can pretend is “one of them”.
Actually, Patty and his hatemongers would probably be quite sad at the passing of Pres. Kaczynski (aside from the whole Catholic thing, natch). Under him, Poland veered pretty sharply to the right to be one of Europe’s few truly right-of-center states. Remember, to American eyes European politics as a whole is, to use an astrophysical term, blue-shifted a step or two, where most European Conservatives wouldn’t really cut the mustard (ideologically speaking) with their increasingly distant cousins in America. Kaczynski was an exception to the rule.
I think this sad incident comes at about the time of year the Poles suffered another loss, this time at the hands of the Russians. During WWII at about this time of year, the Russians shot a bunch of Polish Army officers in some woods in Poland.
It sure seems like the Poles get a lot of grief from their neighbors. If it isn’t the Vikings or Swedes, it wa the Russians or Germans. Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place! Wow!

Vince, you’re so overreacting. Regardless of the tastefulness, Goldy has a point: there are a lot of Americans who are so scared of the duly elected POTUS that they wish him dead. I have a neighbor that has one of those bumper stickers on the back of his truck that encourages “prayers for Obama”, with a notation for a specific biblical verse, one that IIRC would wish him to die a horrible and painful death, and for his widow and children to pass on in similar fashion. Sadly, this is nothing particularly new. For a long time, there was a low-power radio station up in Newport that signed off with a similar prayer – regardless of who inhabited 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue at that particular time.
That said, our thoughts and prayers should go out to Kaczynski’s family, To Poland, and to the Polish diaspora.

Sorry, but I think it pretty obvious if Pudwhacker attcks me like the mindless Republibot he is, I’m not a rightie. But I stand by my statement. The late Polish Pres. Kaczynski was one of the few (by American standards) right-of-center European leaders. Look up his records on freedom of the press and especially gay rights – they’d make Pudwhacker get an erection.
But remember what I said about things being ‘blue-shifted’? Y’see, over in Europe, all but the most rabid extremists support surprisingly left-of-center things, like universal health care. And to continue that analogy, most ‘conservative’ leaders in Europe, like French President Sarkozy and like future Britsh PM David Cameron, are nowhere near as conservative as their sick and twisted American kin.
