Democrats have a political ideology and a collective will to use electoral success to govern fairly and effectively.
Republicans have no political ideology anymore beyond bathroom restrictions. And their will is to use electoral success to dismantle democracy and the rule of law in order to guarantee future electoral success from which they and their donor class can profit.
I would not argue for disenfranchisement. Quite the opposite. I’d argue for nationwide same day, instant registration, motor-voter registration, and postmarked mail in voting everywhere. I’d argue for eliminating the Electoral College through National Popular Vote. But I’d also argue for redistricting in 2022 to reduce the disproportionate influence of greasey, flatulent, balding, impotent, old, racist, intolerant, rural xenophobes. And I’d argue to enlarge the Congress for the same reason.
Those of us in affluent, healthy, productive, well educated, and prosperous regions of the country can strike back at the GOP in times like these by continuing to enact motor voter laws, adopting statewide vote-by-mail, restoring voting rights to felons who have completed their sentencing, adopting National Popular Vote, and by continuing to foster the widest possible participation and engagement in representative government.
