Democrats have no one to blame but themselves for this debacle. As I pointed out, there were many steps the Obama administration could have taken to stop WikiLeaks. It could have indicted Assange and his fellow WikiLeaks staffers and made clear that the United States will not tolerate any country — particularly NATO allies — providing them with a haven. The administration could have sought their extradition and — if the countries where they were hiding refused to cooperate — used existing Justice Department authorities to arrest them anywhere in the world, with or without those countries’ consent. They could have used the assets of U.S. Cyber Command to carry out cyberattacks on WikiLeaks servers to disrupt its ability to disseminate classified information that puts lives at risk.
But it appears that the administration has done none of these things. In 2013, The Washington Post reported that “The Justice Department has all but concluded it will not bring charges against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange for publishing classified documents because government lawyers said they could not do so without also prosecuting U.S. news organizations and journalists . . . unless he is implicated in criminal activity other than releasing online top-secret military and diplomatic documents.”

The President of the United States should not make such events a national emergency. Perhaps when it is party tell those folks to get their act together. Under Washington states constitution an election is required, but since you all think the voters are dumb and the electoral college is dumb perhaps our legislature is best suited to choose our electors for us. And you gloss over the fact that we have a federal system where each state has power, and this whole electoral college is where states exercise their rights. Not the voters from each state.
All states had gone to a popular vote system and mostly winner take all by 1836 well before the civil war, though South Carolina persisted in the legislature choose electors until 1860.

There is a reason they have never signed the prohibition on chemical weapons. They have a limited number of nuclear devices, and may have a missile capable of delivering a device. The Indian’s and Pakistani are both far more credible nuclear threats. Though most likely to each other than any other nations. Bad blood and nukes yet one can make the argument nukes have kept the peace.
Nuclear weapons enhancing North Korea’s security is a red herring. It’s not likely we would use more than a b 52 or B 2 if we decided to take out the North Korean’s. Our real concern has to be nuclear proliferation. A point that should be made by South Korea and Japan very pragmatically.
The underlying issues in Korea are simple and it appears South Korea is winning the race, and North Korea is going topple or follow China’s lead or reunify with the south peacefully and the Kim family leaving power gracefully. Possible, but not terrible likely in the near future, even if that would be the best outcome.
