#1 Trump is playing to his base, and doesn’t give a shit if the courts throw out his latest attempt to ban trans people from the military;
#2 Trump obviously expects to be challenged in court, which is why he’s leaving the military some wiggle room, for example to retain trans people currently in service, in hopes of saving at least a partial ban in the courts;
#3 Consistent with Trump’s other declarations and pronouncements, e.g. the tariff that isn’t a tariff and the gun control that doesn’t control guns, in the implementation (that tricky word!) this could turn into no ban at all except in the minds of Trump’s fans, which is the whole point of this exercise in the first place. So, don’t take this “ban” too seriously, because he’s probably not banning much of anything, this is only for screaming “MAGA” hat mob consumption.
