Sure, Trumpublicans are not about to obtain a numerical majority in Cook County. And probably aren’t ever going to win statewide elections in Illinois either given the bizarre and extremist turn they’ve taken since nominating PooseyGrapper to lead them.
So I suppose the “value” of going to Chicago and yelling prepared remarks that include
“Chicago is an embarrassment to America… Afghanistan is a safe place by comparison… Rat infested murder capitol…”
is that mouthbreathers in wifebeaters sitting at home will hear it and chub up. But it doesn’t help Republicans in Illinois running for office who need votes from Cook County.
It always seemed backward and parochial to me when pols seeking statewide office in relatively blue states would simply refuse to engage in the urban counties. But none of them with any sense would publicly insult those voters or their homes. And it isn’t as though there are no Trump voters in Cook County. In 2016 Cook County cast almost a half million votes for Trump. Analysis tells us these are low information gut voters. They probably liked Trump’s “attitude” without really knowing much else. Now, thanks to insults like this, It’ll be fewer than 350,000. And that’s a large total swing for a statewide race where candidates with an (R) after their names depend on very small margins to eek out a victory.
It may be these kinds of tactics are wise within a narrow electoral college strategy focusing on turnout among a core demographic in only a few states. But simply put, it does enormous damage to the party, in the present but also going into the future. Ride-or-Die Trump may be all they have left at this point. But it is going to kill them off as a national party in the long run.

21,
His “message” that Cadet Donald J. Bonespurs is some kind of masterful and decisive military commander is unworthy of even the usual mockery.
Not even president peepee’s supporters believe that. They just believe, in spite of all evidence, that a “successful businessman” can “choose the right Generals and leave it up to them”, even thought their president has repeatedly criticized the military for being filled with “highly overrated” people who “are too indecisive”.
I’m more fascinated that Teh Dumbfuck, given the present state of affairs, is so focused on vain attempts to “trigger” these comments with this nonsense. His President had to be tricked into leaving military support in Syria by his own Generals. They laugh at him constantly. And they are appalled by his relationship with foreign adversaries.
Nobody who has paid any attention over the past two-and-a-half years would think president Russian SlutPuppet has led the military well. He’s been mostly terrified by these kinds of situations and sought in every way to avoid them. Putin saw this from the outset and has played upon it to his advantage. Withdrawing the US military from overseas operations in support of our allies certainly relieves The President of any responsibility for those operations. It also leaves the world wide open to be manipulated and toyed with by malevolent dictators like Putin, Xi, Erdogan, Rouhani, and Kim.
Even Teh Dumbfuck can’t fabricate a hedging strategy for that.

Roger Rabbit spews:
@5 Illinois has the nation’s worst public pension system, and is often held up by conservatives as “proof” that America needs to abrogate its pension obligations to retired public servants. This, of course, is demagoguing a real-life problem.
Washington, by contrast, is consistently rated in the top three public pension systems. Most of its components are fully funded. But even if they weren’t, there would be zero justification for stiffing Washington State’s teachers and other public pensioners, because that’s their money.
In Washington, public pensions are funded with deductions from employees’ pay, which is then invested, and pensions are paid from this pool of funds. There is no taxpayer contribution or tax money involved.
Conservatives will argue that taxpayers pay teachers’ and other public servants’ salaries. Yes, but in exchange for their work, and those salaries become the private property of the employees upon receipt. Because pension contributions are deducted from their paychecks, those contributions are private property, not public money, when paid into the pension system.
But don’t expect conservatives to comprehend that. For all their reverence for private property, they don’t know private property when they see it. How else do you explain their sticky fingers when it comes to other people’s wages, pensions, health care, and lawns? Show me a conservative, and I’ll show you a porch pirate.

@6 I don’t get excited by this kind of stuff. It’s just puffery of the sort you expect from any other internet scammer’s advertising.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@7 Exactly what I was talking about in #4. The only way your reasoning works is if you assume Bergdahl’s guilt before he’s had a trial or any due process. Obama’s approach was to secure the release of an American POW, bring him home, then let the military legal system deal with the accusations against him. You? No due process needed or wanted, just leave him in enemy hands, or (according to some of your ilk) shoot him.
Nothing illuminates the flaws of this twisted thinking better than the case of the Central Park Five. Your orange moron ran a full-page ad in New York newspapers demanding their summary execution. Turns out they were innocent of the crime. However, they were still guilty of being black, which is enough for their racist fuck to want to kill them.
Bergdahl, in retrospect, was guilty of something. But there was no way to make that determination while he remained captive in enemy hands. What you’re guilty of is arguing that our nation should have turned its back on him and left him behind based on nothing more than your knee-jerk personal opinion of his guilt or innocence.
You suck, Doc. You richly deserve all the scorn we heap on you in these comment threads. Also, you’re a shitty armchair lawyer, even by armchair lawyer standards. You’d never pass the first question on a real-life bar exam with that answer.

Let’s begin this discussion on the premise that Gates is right. I’m not conceding that, I’m just agreeing to accept it as a given for the purpose of this debate. It needn’t be a long or complicated debate, because that still makes Biden’s foreign policy better than Trump’s in every respect. If 2020 is a Biden-Trump matchup, that still leaves Biden as the superior candidate by far. But world-class dumbfucks, and there are plenty of them, will vote for Trump anyway. SCOTUS has barred federal courts from interfering with partisan gerrymandering, but that doesn’t stop state courts from throwing out gerrymanders, and today a North Carolina state court did so, ruling that the GOP’s brazen gerrymander of that state’s congressional districts violates the state constitution.

Roger Rabbit Commentary: The chances of SCOTUS interfering with this ruling are nil, in my opinion, because this ruling is based on state — not federal — law. So the present legal status of gerrymanders in the United States is that they have to be challenged in state courts under provisions of state constitutions, statutes, and/or common law.

“On July 25, 2019, the call occurred. I listened in on the call in the Situation Room with colleagues from the NSC and the office of the Vice President. As the transcript is in the public record, we are all aware of what was said. I was concerned by the call. I did not think it was proper to demand that a foreign government investigate a U.S. citizen, and I was worried about the implications for the U.S. government’s support of Ukraine. I realized that if Ukraine pursued an investigation into the Bidens and Burisma, it would likely be interpreted as a partisan play which would undoubtedly result in Ukraine losing the bipartisan support it has thus far maintained. This would all undermine U.S. national security. Following the call, I again reported my concerns to NSC’s lead counsel.”
