The Washington State eviction moratorium has been extended again. This time through the end of June.

Given the rate of vaccination, I would guess that it will be the last extension. I hope that the state and Federal relief packages will mean it’s a relatively soft landing when the moratorium expires.

    George Floyd in the news yesterday.

    The judge had previously denied a defense attempt to allow the year-old arrest at trial. But he heard fresh arguments this week because of drugs found in January in a second search of the police SUV in which the four officers attempted to put Floyd in 2020.

    He said Thursday that he would allow medical evidence of Floyd’s physical reactions, such as his dangerously high blood pressure when he was examined by a paramedic, and a short clip of an officer’s body camera video. He said Floyd’s “emotional behavior” such as calling out to his mother in 2019 won’t be admitted.

    Nelson argued that similarities between the encounters are relevant, with Floyd calling out for his mother, claiming he had been shot before, crying and putting what appeared to be pills in his mouth.

    This was new to me:

    He acknowledged there are several similarities between the two incidents, including that Floyd swallowed drugs after police confronted him.

    Dozens of young White House staffers have been suspended, asked to resign, or placed in a remote work program due to past marijuana use, frustrating staffers who were pleased by initial indications from the Biden administration that recreational use of cannabis would not be immediately disqualifying for would-be personnel, according to three people familiar with the situation.

    The policy has even affected staffers whose marijuana use was exclusive to one of the 14 states—and the District of Columbia—where cannabis is legal. Sources familiar with the matter also said a number of young staffers were either put on probation or canned because they revealed past marijuana use in an official document they filled out as part of the lengthy background check for a position in the Biden White House.

    Black staff members were excluded so that Kamala Harris would not be forced to resign. Reached for comment, Hunter Biden expressed disgust at the policy, and said, “Hey, when I was bounced from the Navy, I was actually high and on duty when I was tested. My dad’s a fucking asshole.”

    In response to this news story, White House press secretary Jen Psaki tweeted out on Friday an NBC News report from February stating that the Biden administration wouldn’t automatically disqualify applicants if they admitted to past marijuana use. Psaki said of the hundreds of people hired in the administration, only five who had started working at the White House are “no longer employed as a result of this policy.”

    Meaning there are hundreds of people in the adminstration who are either liars or lived at home while attending college.

    Over and over it refers prospective voters seeking photo ID to their county offices.

    There are 159 counties in Georgia.
    In lawsuits won by Stacy Abrams more than fifty counties with large percentages of African American voters were found to have defied state law and prevented African Americans from obtaining the required photo ID. In most cases the counties responded that they lacked equipment, funding, and staff to “be putting out these cards to all these black folks just because they come in here asking for it”. Counties repeatedly turned African American voters away by demanding forms of proof of identification that either do not exist or that are not required by Georgia state law. In other cases they simply closed their offices, or limited the hours of operation so that people with jobs would be unable to apply. And in some cases they claimed their machines were broken or that supplies for making the photo ID cards were “on backorder”.

    This is a decades old script that is well known.
    It’s Jim Crow.
    It’s why the original voting rights act was passed.
    And it’s why the new voting rights act must be passed this year.
