The Dow is now pushing toward a -900 point one-day loss, and looks like it may try for a thousand-point drop. The stock market certainly doesn’t like what’s going on in the outside world. This is all about Trump’s tariffs and China’s retaliation, of course. Wars, including trade wars, rarely go as planned and do have a tendency to spin out of control, if history is a guide. I wonder if Powell will panic and step in with another rate cut, or at least some jawboning, at this point? He is, after all, a Trump appointee; and while he seems to have a little more backbone than the rest of them, he’s not the most stout fellow on the planet. I guess we’ll shortly see how much cartilage is in his knees.

When it was at $140 I transferred half to a charitable gift fund. The other half I still have, purchased at $70 a few years ago.
Something I paid $35 for I donated at $140. I get a tax deduction of $140 and I avoid capital gains taxation (and the Obamacare 3.8% surcharge) on $105. I replaced them recently at $120. I can wait. Oh, and I can make the donation from the account at any time, to any qualified recipient. When I’m ready I can make a charity very happy. It’s been identified and it will be disbursed prior to the end of the year.
And afterward I can still afford to buy my copy of Barron’s.
But Roger Dumbfuck Rabbit is correct. I received zero dividend on my investment. Other than the 300% gain prior to donating it, I got nothing.
To Roger Dumbfuck Rabbit hoarding his pittance is a win. I’m pleased to let him think that.
