– I guess there’s a game of foot sports today. Given how crazy the city got for preseason foot sports, it might be a good idea to leave downtown right now.

– Phyllis Schlafly has great ideas that sure sound neat.

– So if you could use a Taser instead of killing someone, then logically a civilized society would want police to have them. But I see no reason for Tasers to even be in the hands of cops if that’s the way they’re going to look at it.

– It’s tough to see potential February Metro cuts.

– Pumpkin Spice is a real sign that this too hot summer is ending, so I’ll take it.

    A 5-foot-5 female jogger reported a 6-foot-4 man grabbing her butt and pulling her shorts down on a jogging trail.     When I was just out of high school, a friend of mine’s sister got grabbed like that at work. She was working a retail gig at the old Aurora Village Mall and some former high school football hero type grabbed her ass as she was hanging up clothes on a rack. She turned around and knocked his ass dafuck out, completely by reflex. Those kids grew up in a house with a 10 year Army combat veteran for a Dad and a Karate/Tai Kwan Do expert mother.

    I would have loved to see the security camera footage of that.

    She got fired of course. The guy who got his ass beat was taken out on a stretcher, still unconscious and bleeding like a stuck pig. It made the papers at the time, and Robyn and Maynard reported it on KXRX, accompanied by much hilarity.

    She ended up working for a large retailer at the same mall, and was able to parlay that into a career at that company’s corporate headquarters. As far as I know, she’s still working for them.

    I always did like that girl when we were in school.

    Roger Rabbit Commentary: It’s easy to figure out what’s going on here. Six decades ago, millionaires were admired and respected. Why? Because they created jobs for workers. What has changed? Now, they destroy jobs and take from workers. Result? They’re no longer admired or respected.

    In the old days, a millionaire candidate could get elected by campaigning by promising higher wages, because voters thought successful people knew how to create more wealth for everyone. Now, millionaire candidates can’t get elected because they’re promising their fellow millionaires lower wages. How many people will vote for that? Just the millionaires and their buddies.

    There are additional factors at work. Today’s millionaires are widely viewed as dishonest people who got where they are by gaming the system — and bringing the system down. They’re blamed for the financial crisis and Great Recession because, after all, the working class didn’t cause it. They’re now seen, not as leaders, but as exploiters.

    That’s why Romney lost, and it’s why the Kochs and Adelson won’t succeed in buying themselves a Congress or a president.

    @40 Interesting First Amendment question here. Many people consider handbills a nuisance, and owners of parked cars often throw them on the ground, so it’s not surprising when city councils seek to ban them. But, generally speaking, they can’t do that because SCOTUS has ruled handbills are a traditional form of political speech that’s protected by the First Amendment, and mere littering concerns don’t override the citizen’s interest in exercising his right of free speech. Speech can be restricted when courts find a “significant governmental interest” in doing so, but most (if not all) bans on distributing handbills in public places will fail this test. So, this looks like an illegal arrest.
