The Attorney General’s support of some measure to get rid of automatic weapons is just feel good politics. He is still a politician and is supported by a number of politicians some who secretly may hope the legislature does nothing with any proposed legislation.
As it is any legislation will do nothing about the tens of thousands of these weapons already owned by individuals in this state and the numerous 20,30 or 50 round clips. Repressive regimes like North Korea know if you leave the barn door open and after you shut it you go after the critters.
Furthermore if the Attorney General truly though this type of weapon is so terrible he would tell all law enforcement agencies in Washington state to collect and destroy all such weapons in their departments. This he could do and does not. This would eliminate one source of the weapons, and it would mean the state will not use weapons that it does not allow its citizens to purchase and own. A return to civil policing.

If you get shotgun type device they are inherently dangerous and so unsafe the bombardier on the Enola Gay would not alloy the bomb to be fully together on takeoff and put the last parts into the bomb during the flight. That device and Little boy are large so it’s gong to be challenging to hide them. Most devices are of some side particularly when they are two or more tiered devices as hydrogen bombs are.
