Contrary to your comment, the Raw Story article clearly states the cop is black; you don’t read so well. But I don’t think race is a factor in this incident. Rather, it’s another clear example of how violent and out of control America’s police are. The public not only has to force changes in police department use-of-force policies, but also needs to pressure their legislators to restrict police immunity so cops who abuse their authority in this way can be fired, prosecuted, and sued more readily. Shooting a guy for having a chapstick obviously is over the top, and threatening to shoot his brother for going to the shot guy’s aid is even more over the top. It’s not enough to stick Baltimore taxpayers with a civil judgment in favor of the victim, because that doesn’t deter trigger-happy cops; this cop should lose his job and go to jail.
