    On conservative radio on the way in, the hosts were whining that it was so unfair to criticize conservative media on Blaming the Victim, just because they WERE Blaming the Victim in the unarmed Michael Brown murder.

    Seattle Times and KOMO 4 TV reported this morning that the guy with the fucking necklace (i.e., religion entrepreneur Mark Driscoll) is taking a 6-week hiatus from his Mars Hill bully pulpit while “a professional Christian group” advises him about more than 50 charges against him by 21 former Mars Hill pastors. The charges include bullying and financial shenanigans.

    Driscoll’s break follows on the heels of Mars Hill and him being kicked out of a national evangelical association called Act 21.

    Critics say this means nothing, alleging Driscoll has played mea culpa games before, has never changed his controlling and intimidating behavior, and the group of “advisers” are people he appointed to church positions and still controls.

    In a scene reminiscent of the civil rights era, thousands of mourners showed up for Michael Brown’s funeral today, and speakers urged the crowd to vote and work for change. Regardless of what facts eventually emerge from the investigations now underway, it’s clear how blacks all over America and Brown’s own community are reacting to his death: “We’ve had enough, no more police abuse, no more lynchings.” This is shaping up as one of those transformative events like the Emmett Till and Medgar Evers slayings which galvanized the original civil rights movement, and may initiate a whole new civil rights movement. And that makes the rightwingers’ skins crawl.

    @3, my 3kw solar sustem will pay for itself in about 6 years. I got my bill last month, it was $16 (charged me for flat fee for distribution, as common to all customers) and I banked 250 kWh. I use to average paying $70 per month. In April of 2015 they will credit my account at wholesale rate if I still have credits banked, which they will apply towards the $16 flat fee, so possibly in May my monthly bill might be $0 and continue that way depending on how much I’ve banked. Possibly going from an annual cost of about $700 to maybes $100, saving $600 annually. In addition I’ve converted my hot water from oil to electric and I’ve shut my oil furnace off since June and will not turn it back on till November, further saving about $3-500 more.

    I can’t imagine what it’s like to be black and live in St. Louis (or Denver, L.A., NYC, or lots of other places), but some eloquent black writers are helping me imagine it:

    Roger Rabbit Commentary: I don’t know what to do. Should we fire them all, and just start over? Not very practical (and not fair to the good cops). The only thing I can think of is what I said before — multimillion dollar plaintiff’s verdicts until cities that hire bad cops either go broke or clean up their act.

    It’s a little early in the data to tell for sure, but there are some early indications that ride services like Uber and Lyft decrease cases of drunk driving by making it that much easier for intoxicated people to get somewhere without getting behind the wheel themselves. So it seems notable, if somewhat ridiculous, that California State Senator Ben Hueso was arrested for drunk driving just hours after voting in favor of a taxi-lobby supported bill that would profoundly limit services like Uber and Lyft. The bill was designed to dump a bunch of unnecessary and burdensome regulations on those companies to make it difficult for them to compete or survive in California.

    Hueso voted in favor of it, and then a few hours later was spotted driving the wrong way down a one way street at 2:24 in the morning.

    Hueso said he worked for his brothers’ business in the 1980s and ’90s but has had no financial involvement with USA Cab since 2001. The business, based in San Diego, is owned by his brothers Alfredo Hueso and Jose Antonio Hueso.

    In 2011, the Bloc Quebecois went from around 50 seats in the Canadian House of Commons, to 5. Defections have reduced that to two, and one of the remaining MP’ s Will not be running again in the 2015 election. 2014 has not been a good year for the separatists. The provincial Parti Quebecois called an early election in Quebec, and got dumped in favor of the corrupt Quebec Liberals the voters had dumped about a year or two earlier.
