You start by realizing that they are two separate polls, each with its own MOE.
The margin of sampling error for the full sample of 1,500 Likely Voters is /- 2.5 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
Add the MOEs and they total 5%. After factoring that in, Trump’s polling numbers may not have changed at all.
Finally, since each of those polls is a rolling three-day average of daily polls of 500 persons each (so, really 3 daily polls before the convention and 3 daily polls during), and the most recent numbers were collected before last night’s Trump speech, the polls taken each day don’t reflect the entire convention and might only be reflecting MTuW responses.
