It’s weird that people who spent 8 years looking for Obama’s Katrina aren’t saying the same for Trump. I mean Puerto Rico is still suffering from Trump’s actions. The continued suffering of our fellow citizens is a choice. The same people who thought that everything Obama did was as bad as Katrina sure are missing their chance.

    FEMA operated on a plan for Puerto Rico that was developed in 2014. Um, who was president then?

    The plan, which was developed by a FEMA contractor in 2014 in anticipation of a catastrophic storm and utilized by FEMA when Maria hit last September, prepared for a Category 4 hurricane and projected that the island would shift from response to recovery mode after roughly 30 days.

    More significantly, according to a half-dozen disaster-recovery experts who reviewed the document at POLITICO’s request, FEMA did not anticipate having to take on a lead role in the aftermath of the disaster, despite clear signs that the island’s government and critical infrastructure would be overwhelmed in the face of such a storm.

    Ah, but the Obama appointee FEMA chief of staff who was in charge when the plan was drafted has an explanation. It wasn’t his fault, you see:

    “They probably should have made the assumption that it was going to require federal support,” said Michael Coen, who is now an adviser at IEM, which contracts with FEMA to draft hurricane plans but was not involved in the creation of the Puerto Rico plan. “That should have been flagged.”

    The omission is significant because such planning documents are most useful in advance of the disaster, the experts said, to help federal, state and local entities understand their responsibilities.

    I can see why Team Obama fell down on the job. They had Iran’s financial interests to worry about at the time.

    @4 Blaming Obama for a Republican president’s and a Republican’s Congress response to a disaster that occurred on their watch doesn’t cut it. They didn’t cause the storm.     I’ll be surprised if either of these “candidates” gets over 1% in their respective primaries, although I have to hedge a bit because today’s Republican voters don’t seem inhibited about voting for ex-convicts.
