Come the hell on, Microsoft (h/t).
When we talk about the worst in the nation gender pay gap in Seattle, often Boeing, Microsoft, and Amazon come up. As if manufacturing and tech just have to favor men. It doesn’t. let ’em. I hope they go with that. If those corrupt, Russian abetting, child molesting fucks think they are going to move a Trumpist White Nationalist agenda in a Dem controlled House let ’em live that delusion right up until Jan. of next year.
Even if all 24+ pickups are “conservative” Democrats it still means saving ACA, ending the stupid wall, really going after Putin, six or more committees investigating President PornFucker, another dozen or more committees investigating $30,000 dining room furniture, and a long series of painful votes in the the other chamber forcing Senate Roypublicans to openly defend NRA gun-fapping, white nationalism, wife beating, and Russian conspiracy to defraud going into 2020. Sounds ideal.
And if they cling to the delusion about their appeal to their hillbilly base they are more likely to back down from the Ayn Rand – Heritage Foundation agenda, and work cooperatively with “conservative” Democrats already in Congress, especially in the Senate, to preserve social safety net programs and reduce inequality. Shoring up swing state support for “conservative” Dems again just in time for 2020.
They are beyond the White Nationalist Event Horizon. They can no longer see themselves reflected in Real America because no light or energy can escape the vortex of irrational fear and venal will to power. Their only real appeal to their constituency lies in naked racism, white supremacy, misogyny, bigotry, and greed. If they heed the patronizing moans of Hoover Institution elites and arrogant Acela Corridor Bow-ties like David Brooks they’ll abandon what little appeal they have left among the masses. That fate is inescapable now. But buying into that particular media delusion will only hasten it.

Paul’s opposition to Haspel’s nomination raises the prospect that the White House may struggle to gather the votes needed in the Senate to confirm her as the head of the CIA. If all 49 senators in the Democratic caucus vote against Haspel, Paul and another Republican voting ‘no’ would block her from taking over the agency.”

Andrew McCabe, a career FBI man, became acting director when Trump fired Comey. Trump doesn’t like him:
“Trump has repeatedly criticized McCabe, and in January it was reported that Attorney General Sessions had been pressuring FBI Director Wray to fire McCabe. He had been expected to retire in mid-March, and will be on leave until his retirement becomes effective.”

But Justice Department rules prohibit the dissemination of confidential information, and the inspector general’s report is expected to criticize Mr. McCabe for disclosing the existence of a continuing investigation to The Journal.
When an inquiry uncovers evidence that an agent has violated Justice Department regulations, the inspector general typically refers the matter to the F.B.I.’s Office of Professional Responsibility, which handles questions of punishment.

Family and I moved cross-country for residency. I had already started, and before the others joined me our three cats and a dog were shipped via American Airlines, with a stop for plane change at O’Hare.
One cat and the Dalmatian escaped at O’Hare. The cat was found a few hours later in a tunnel under a runway, and was surprisingly easily recaptured and arrived a day later than the other two cats. The Dalmatian escaped because a well-meaning baggage handler opened the pet carrier despite a sign on the door stating DO NOT OPEN FOR ANY REASON because she had tipped over her water bowl.
She shot out of the carrier and because gate to the pet enclosure at the baggage terminal was left open by the same guy who ignored the sign on the carrier, she escaped onto the airport tarmac.
She was finally recaptured, nine days later.

Exactly what “y’all” are you talking about here? We didn’t have anything to do with this. But I can’t think of it happening to a nicer guy; after all, he got 4,486 American soldiers killed by invading the wrong country. And 9/11/01 wouldn’t have happened in the first place if he had read the intelligence reports and acted on them in a timely manner:
“Bush’s approach in most situations seemed a reactive combination of calculations to avoid his father’s mistakes and to reject Clinton’s policies. This was especially clear in international affairs: in his first nine months he reversed Clinton’s policy toward China, proclaiming it no longer a ‘strategic partner’ but a ‘strategic competitor’; in the Middle East, by withdrawing U.S. involvement in the negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians; toward Korea, by abandoning the negotiated accord that had frozen the North’s nuclear program and by humiliating President Kim of South Korea, who was promoting North-South reconciliation, during his March 2001 visit to the White House, contributing to a wave of anti-Americanism in a country that was among the staunchest American allies; by withdrawing U.S. support from the Kyoto treaty on global warming; and by forsaking Clinton’s efforts to address the dangers of international terrorism.
“During the transition between administrations, National Security Adviser Sandy Berger arranged several extensive briefings on this last subject for Bush’s incoming national security adviser, Condoleeza Rice, and others on the Bush team, including Vice President Cheney. One briefing lasted half a day. Berger told them that Osama bin Laden was an ‘existential threat’ and told them that he wanted ‘to underscore how important this issue is.’ In another briefing, Richard Clarke, head of counterterrorism in the NSC, the single most knowledgeable expert in the government, gave them a complete tutorial on the subject. In yet another briefing, CIA officials were brought in to go over all the intelligence available on terrorism.
“Don Kerrick, a three-star general and outgoing deputy national security adviser, overlapped for four months with the new Bush people. He submitted a memo for the new National Security Council warning of the danger of terrorism. ‘We are going to be struck again,’ he wrote. But as Kerrick explained to me, he received no answer to his memo. ‘They didn’t respond,’ he said. ‘They never responded. It was not high on their priority list. I was never invited to one meeting. They never asked me to do anything. They were not focusing. They didn’t see terrorism as the big megaissue that the Clinton administration saw it as. They were concentrated on what they thought were higher priorities than terrorism.’ The Principals meeting of national security officials took up terrorism only once, after constant pressure from Clarke, on September 4, 2001, and at that meeting they discussed using unmanned Predator drone spy aircraft, but no decision was made. ‘Unfortunately,’ said Kerrick, ‘September 11 gave them something to focus on.’”

“FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe did not vote in the 2016 presidential general election, but did vote in the 2016 Republican presidential primary, according to two Virginia campaign consultants — one Republican, one Democratic — with access to the Virginia campaign participation rolls.”
https://www.cnn.com/2018/01/24/politics/andrew-mccabe-vote/index.html
Now, admittedly, the same article says,
“While McCabe chose to participate in the GOP primary, that doesn’t necessarily provide any insight into his political leanings. Voters in the state are free to bounce between party primaries as they choose.”
… so that’s hardly definitive. But do you have any evidence he isn’t? His wife doesn’t count, because he’s not her, and lots of married couples vote differently and have disparate party loyalties (see, e.g., James Carville and Mary Matalin).

DOJ watchdog opens review of Comey’s Clinton email investigation
The review’s scope includes allegations that FBI Director James Comey violated established procedures when he publicly discussed the bureau’s findings and when he sent Congress updates shortly before the election about new evidence agents had discovered.
Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz announced in a statement Thursday that his investigation will also explore whether FBI and Justice Department employees improperly leaked information prior to the election.
Oh, and Comey was on-board with it:
“I am grateful to the Department of Justice’s IG for taking on this review. He is professional and independent and the FBI will cooperate fully with him and his office,” Comey said in a statement. “I hope very much he is able to share his conclusions and observations with the public because everyone will benefit from thoughtful evaluation and transparency regarding this matter.”

Headline–
Why Democrats Would Lose the Second Civil War, Too
Snip–
It’s obvious that the central tenet of the Democrat Party platform is now hatred and contempt for Normal Americans. Taking their cue from the elites in Europe and Canada who are stripping dissenters of their free speech rights and religious freedoms, the leftist elite is moving to solidify its hold on power here with the eager assistance of tech companies and the moral support of the Fredocons who yearn to return to pseudo-relevance as the ruling class’s slobberingly loyal opposition. In California, the leftist government is practically firing on Fort Sumter. And nationally, these aspiring fascists are especially eager to disarm Normal Americans – doing so would be an object lesson in who’s the boss, as well as solving that frustrating problem of the Normals having the ability to resist.
Democrats, who think history began when Obama was elected, don’t understand the dangerous game they are playing when they talk about how they want to impose their brown shirt vision upon red America. The keyboard commandos of the left seek to hand wave away the massive strategic challenge of imposing control by force upon a well-armed, decentralized citizenry occupying the vast majority of the territory, so they babble about drones and tanks as counterinsurgency trump cards. But there are no trump cards in war. There are men, with rifles, standing on patches of dirt, killing the people trying to push them off. That’s the ugly reality of war. And multiply the usual brutality of war by ten when it’s a civil war.
There are two Civil War II scenarios, and the left is poorly positioned to prevail in either one. The first scenario is that the Democrats take power and violate the Constitution in order to use the apparatus of the federal government to suppress and oppress Normal Americans. In that scenario, red Americans are the insurgents. In the second scenario, which we can even now see the stirrings of in California’s campaign to nullify federal immigration law, it is the blue states that are the insurgents.
The Democrats lose both wars. Big time.
Let’s talk terrain and numbers. Remember the famous red v. blue voting map? There is a lot of red, and in the interior the few blue splotches are all cities like Las Vegas or Denver. That is a lot of territory for a counter-insurgent force to control, and this is critical. The red is where the food is grown, the oil pumped, and through which everything is transported. And that red space is filled with millions of American citizens with small arms, a fairly large percentage of whom have military training.

“When people ask me if a god created the universe, I tell them that the question itself makes no sense. Time didn’t exist before the big bang, so there is no time for god to make the universe in. It’s like asking directions to the edge of the earth; The Earth is a sphere; it doesn’t have an edge; so looking for it is a futile exercise. We are each free to believe what we want, and it’s my view that the simplest explanation is; there is no god. No one created our universe, and no one directs our fate. This leads me to a profound realization; There is probably no heaven, and no afterlife either. We have this one life to appreciate the grand design of the universe, and for that I am extremely grateful” https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/551152-when-people-ask-me-if-a-god-created-the-universe

The longstanding goal of GOP tax policy is to eliminate all taxes except those on wages. The entire tax burden is to be borne by labor. This is entirely consistent with the GOP’s messaging on work i.e., if you work very hard to enrich the bosses, you will be rewarded with kind words. Note: Expecting to be paid or get similar tax privileges is a bridge too far; don’t go there. After all, someone has to work and pay taxes, and you can’t expect the privileged classes or their children to do that, because being exempt is the whole point of being privileged.

Something important about PA 18 that Dems should not overlook.
Lamb did it mostly without national party support. He did it without Lujan and the DCCC, without big national donor group PACs, and he did it opposing Nancy Pelosi. That opposition to Pelosi was not just pandering or posturing in a WWCM district. But even if it was, it won’t be when the rubber hits the road. Like every member, Lamb will spend a majority of his time preparing for and running his next campaign. Unique in his case he will be running immediately, maintaining full staffing and operations for his campaign from yesterday morning through November.
So every vote he takes from now until then will be predicated on the next group of older, more conservative, less educated white people he needs to vote for him. He will remain openly opposed to Nancy Pelosi, and by extension the national party leadership that she represents. If the right vote comes along, he may even break and side with the child molesters.
National Democrats can’t really take much credit for Lamb. But they may take lessons. And probably a whole lot of moderate Dems running in swing districts carried by President SpaceForce! will closely study and seek to emulate and repeat what he did. So while the mids may shape up to be a blue wave election, it might not be the precise shade of blue some nationally oriented progressive Dems expect. This may be the Dems “Tea Party” year, in which the national party organs are bypassed and de-emphasized to a great extent, at least in terms of Congressional races.
That has important implications for 2020 and the Presidential primary. Many of these groups of disaffected, aging, less educated, white voters in key swings like PA will not be participating in Dem primaries. But they will participate in November that year. And if the DNC and the Congressional party leadership repeats the mistakes of the past they could earn us all another four years of the Russian puppet show. And don’t kid yourselves that some of them wouldn’t prefer that. For many senior incumbent Dems in Congress, opposition to Fuckface Von Clownstick is powerful political JuJu that makes it easy for them to raise money and deliver votes in their progressive states and districts.
Roger Rabbit spews:

@111 PA-18 is heavily unionized, the decisive issue in this election was union pensions, and the unions told their members to vote for Lamb because of that issue, so a lot of what happened in PA-18 that won’t transfer to other races. Nevertheless, there are some lessons to be learned.

114,
The outcome was hyper-localized. Saccone ran a nationally focused campaign. Inside his own campaign he raised and spent barely one fifth of what Lamb raised and spent. But Saccone benefited from a massive investment of outside money and spending – the mirror image of the campaigns. Outside groups spent more than 10 million in the district on Saccone compared to only 2.5 million on Lamb. Saccone ran as “Trump before Trump knew he was Trump”. Lamb never mentioned Trump’s name.
My point is these voters responded to the local issues. And they didn’t just ignore the national issue messaging. There’s mounting evidence to suggest that PA 18 voters reacted in direct opposition to the national issue messaging.
Look, most of these people voted for President SpaceForce! in 2016. Many of them probably regret that now. And that’s a good thing. They should regret it. They should feel ashamed of it. To whatever extent they do, they are that much more likely to want to try to fix their mistake, if not by voting for a Democrat then at least by staying home. But in districts like PA 18 the ones who come to the polls may not respond very positively to a local candidate, asking for their vote, who spends too much time reminding them of what complete fucking idiots they are.
That’s my job. That’s your job. That’s Stephen Colbert’s job, and Alec Baldwin’s job, and Rex Tillerson’s job (new job) and Robert Mueller’s job. And it’s Doctor Dumbfuck’s job, and Piddles’ job, and Shortbus’ job, and this guy’s job. We got that covered.
But the candidates themselves, running in these kinds of districts are probably going to go to school on this and stay as far away as they can from mentioning what a disgraceful human being the voters of those districts put in the White House. The DCCC did spend about $1 million in PA for Lamb. But they did it very quietly and they didn’t spend it bitching about President Stupid.
Part of the reason the Roypublican Party got Cheeto Jesus as their nominee and party boss is because the party leadership set the Presidential primary up to be a contest to crown The Birfer King. They spent eight years honing a national referendum on The Millitant Black Guy. And Trump simply out-bigotted them all. If the DNC responds to nationally focused progressive base Democrats (like us) by creating a primary competition designed exclusively to select the most talented Trump-basher we could lose.

The gender pay gap has little or nothing to do with a company having lots or few sexual harassment claims. If you compare two software engineers of opposite sexes of similar backgrounds at Microsoft you will find a very small gap or no gap. If you compare Boeing engineers or Boeing line workers you will find the same thing. If you compare public school teachers you will discover a very small pay gap. Now the fact public school teachers are not paid as much as cops is much more interesting. When you compare traditionally male and traditionally female occupations some things stand out such as the poor pay women get. It has nothing to do with sexual harassment. It has to do with men willing to go where the work is. To put in longer hours. To be available at all hours. To do messy jobs. In occupations where women are willing to do those same things there is little or no gap in pay.
Still societies willingness to pay police a lot more than teachers clearly is in part because of society placing more value on the male dominated occupation. Pay more and you will have more male teachers. If society respected teaching like in Japan, and Europe and you will have more male teachers.

@1 What situation worse? And are these wife beaters running as wife beaters? In Afghanistan it can be ok, or politically astute to run as a wife beater. In a very few nations it can be politically astute to run as a husband beater. And then there is spousal mistreatment in the gay, and lesbian community. And we are not even touch BDSM where some folks want to be beaten, is it ok for a male politician to beat his wife because she likes it and they are into BDSM? And the spankings are just for fun?
Mark Adams spews:
@2 And Paul Ryan’s PAC supported Lamb. And Lamb is very conservative and out Republicaned the Republican. So no in such a race the Republican tax plan is not going to be a big issue.
So are the fun recounts starting yet? Maybe in the end it will be decided by a coin toss.
Mark Adams spews:
@3 Of course using the Socratic method the question has a problem as it must assume that Judge Carlos Muguia is a resident of an area that is purging its records. It’s possible as a Federal judge he is not a resident of the city the district court is in. Or even the state the court is in. This is even more true of Appeals and Supreme Court judges. Was a federal judge purged? Of not then the folks doing this are not doing a particularly good job or purging people with foreign names off the rolls.

@7 Just when did the Atlanta Federal Reserve become the National prognosticator for the US? Not like I’ve heard of that, nor have I heard the name of the ground hog at the Atlanta zoo. Two things in Atlanta with no claim to fame, wonder why? Now coca cola still makes a refreshing splash, and stock is traded. And that Fanta brand is going strong, wonder if it’s a favorite drink of the black panthers, as opposed to RC cola. Wouldn’t a Fanta ge better with a moon pie?

@10 Assuming the Dems will vote as a united block is an assumption, and if Senator Ryan I a true two faced politician he can count on some of his Democratic colleagues to give him cousin. And just how is VP Pence going to vote…
Mark Adams spews:
@11 Yes a federal employee who has been around for 30 years is golden, and can just retire, and generally is fire proof. As far as an impeached President not getting his retirement, security detail, is an assumption. And impeachment has no effect on a Presidents retirement pay
Mark Adams spews:
@41 Does not matter what Sessions does. He already has his retirement in the bag. Sessions is going to screw him out of 5 percent? The difference between retiring at 29 years and 30 years. In any case Uncle Sam owes the guy a retirement unless Sessions charges him with a crime and he goes to Federal Prison, and even then he may receive his retirement.

@46 Upset because you did not get to put on your editor hat? Or you selectively use your editing skills on some, but not those who politically agree with you? You would do Pravda proud.
You would never make it as a Stars and Stripes editor as you would be expected to be harder on friends than on other colleagues.

@56 You do realize the use of the word dumbfuck really lessens the point you were trying to make. Rather passive aggressive, and even troll like. Of course it’s ok as you are not a Russian troll, so your trollish behavior is of no importance. Please do not go out in the sunlight as you may suffer severe stiffening.

@152
Like pointing out that PA law says there can’t be one except in very narrow circumstances? So far, PA-GOP has yet to find sufficient legal justification for a recount.
But they can whine about it. To paraphrase, why didn’t they use 2009-2015 full control of the legislature and Governor to pass a new recount law if they didn’t want to have to follow it?

Know what? If you hapless gullible dumbshits are going to deploy obvious bullshit to assassinate your own leadership I’m perfectly okay with that. And if you want to sleep through a wave year mid term dreaming about mythical far away recount triumphs that’s cool with me too.
You go girl.

Last night more WH sources confirmed Kevin Drum’s reporting from a day earlier that the idiot man-baby President SpaceForce! is going to replace National Security Advisor McMaster with John Bolton. Bolton’s principle qualification is that he is invested in starting two entirely new wars: one in the Middle East, this time in Iran, and a conventional ground invasion of North Korea. Bolton has proposed supporting these war efforts by re-instituting a military draft and imposing a federal sales tax like the EU’s VAT.

T Sec spent over $1 million on military aircraft travel in six months between spring and fall 2017. Didn’t fly commercial even once. Wouldn’t even fly private charter. No explanation offered.

Manifests indicate T Sec’s wife and chosen media were included on a number of trips. Most common aircraft was C40B – a luxury business modified 737-700, C40B employs a crew of 10, has multiple fully staffed galleys, conference rooms, fully equipped sleeping accommodations, and high tech multimedia rooms. Average passenger manifest count was 18. Average cost per passenger: over $10,000.

We already know Republicans hate teachers and students. Now, a teacher has caught a Republican governor fibbing about her pay — and proved it by shoving her paycheck up his lying ass.

It also should be noted that the Republican governor in question is a multimillionaire businessman who has been criticized as a “sleazebag” for his ruthless business practices and a tax deadbeat.

I can’t make these comparisons, Mark, because I don’t have the pay data you’re citing. Can you please provide the data or sources you’re relying on? Thanks.
Carl didn’t provide much information, either, but he did provide some basis for his argument, however sketchy.

@145 “Does not matter what Sessions does.”
Not so. There would be a significant financial impact on McCabe and his family:
“If he makes it to his 50th birthday on Sunday while still in federal service, he’s eligible to begin drawing a full pension immediately under provisions that apply to federal law enforcement officers, said Kimberly Berry, a lawyer in Arlington, Virginia, who specializes in federal retirement issues.”
Whereas, “if McCabe is dismissed, he will probably be eligible to begin collecting his pension at about age 57, although he would likely lose access to federal health coverage and would probably get a smaller pension than if he were to stay on the federal payroll through Sunday, experts said.”
https://www.politico.com/story/2018/03/15/andrew-mccabe-fbi-legal-recourse-jeff-sessions-466603
My guess is lawyers and experts specializing in federal retirement issues know more about this than you do.
