So, who should replace Tim Burgess on the City Council? It can be anyone in Seattle. I will take myself out of contention.

When Jim Compton left, and there was an opening on the Council, they said they wanted a woman of color, got a hundred or so applications, and went with a white lady. This time, there are women of color on the Council, so maybe they’ll say that they need some other unrepresented group, and then not pick them.

    Looks like three-time loser Dino Rossi isn’t done with politics. He wants to replace Reichert in Congress. Rossi, you recall, is the ethically-challenged slickster who was eager to work for his old boss again when his old boss got out of jail.

    Cheap labor conservatives have concocted a new racket for exploiting other people’s sweat and toil: Form a private prison company, round up a bunch of Mexican immigrants (doesn’t matter if they’re legal or not), then pay ’em $1 a day (or a bag of potato chips) for their work.

    Meanwhile, even though the market indexes are down this morning, I’m making more just sitting on my fat ass than a $7.25-an-hour worker earns in a month, so why the hell should I work? I’m a capitalist, and capitalists don’t work! We live on other people’s labor, which is easy when the companies whose stocks I own can get away with paying their workers the Republican minimum wage. For example, McDonalds just raised its dividend by another 7.4%. When was the last time their workers got a 7.4% raise? Disclosure: Roger Rabbit owns McDonalds stock and is now collecting $4.04 per share of annual dividends from McDonalds. I repeat, why the hell should I work? You don’t get paid for working in this country, you get paid for owning the company. Just ask Alice Walton. You don’t see her doing any work. In fact, she probably never even shops at Walmart. I’ll bet she shops at Macy’s, Nordstrom’s, and Tiffany’s.

    Have you noticed Walmart calls their employees “associates”? They won’t even acknowledge those laboring for them are employees, even though they are. Why should anyone work at all under a shitty system like this? Screw employment! Everyone should be a capitalist.

    It would be a stunning waste of an opportunity for you guys to allow that seat to remain in Hillbilly/Treason/Klan hands. There will never be a better opportunity to flip it than right now under the combined incompetencies of Fuckface, Yertle, and Googly-Eyed Granny-Starver.

    With a just a little good luck the Hillbillies will engage in a costly primary battle over Aryan Blood Purity and Okie-arm-fishin’ skill. Let’s hope so.

    This bill will be one of two things: Either another GOP failure to repeal Obamacare, or gifting the 2018 midterms to the Democrats.

    With eight days remaining (and really only four working days) the question comes down to what kinds of inducements and sweeteners will Yertle be willing to offer Collins, Murkowski, and Maverick to get them to agree to kill sick kids. And once offered, and made public, how will Yes Hillbilly constituents react when they see how cheaply their Senators sold away their children’s lives.

    Rest assured, even facing another failure, deals will be offered. And Hillbilly Senate staff will eagerly spill it as things heat up in the coming days. Will details of these deals improve Hillbilly approval numbers and incumbent prospects? I think not. The more this continues the more EEEN DEEEE PEN DUNCE voters will be looking to hit the Reset button.

    So I’m typing this from a McDonald’s off of I-5 about 10 miles south of Olympia. There are 4 ordering kiosks. Placed my order. Very slick, paid by CC so I got my rebate, too.

    Know what I didn’t see here? Any Fight for $15 protestors.

    Here is a tip for everyone. Wendy’s. in NYC, of all places, you can get a large chili (without cheese) and a small garden salad for $4.09. Every time I have that for dinner I probably save myself $10-$15.

    Beer here in most places $6 for bud and at times $8 served in a bar. I have no idea what it costs in a market – I only drink in a bar socially. This place will rob an alcoholics piggy bank.

    Here in Seattle, a 6-pack of Bud can be had for $6.99, if you can stand to drink the stuff. Discerning rabbits prefer Guinness Stout or Anchor Steam Beer.

    @18. Too many calories. I stick with bud light and have a problem with that because of calories. I prefer Michalobr Iltra if I can find it at the bar, not many bars have it, because even less calories than bud light. I’m not a beer coniseur.

    I spend 6 hours a week in the gym – in not going to add more.calories than I need.

    Yes “G” man spends a lot of time in the (G)ym, just happens to be the first letter in Gay, coincidentally. But some people think they fucking know everything but in reality they are just a dumbfuck doctor.

    Carl Ballard is the next temporary Mayor of Seattle. Men pick up and carry him up to the office. Pay no mind to what he’s saying. Just stick him in the office with the huge stacks of paperwork in the in box. Put a couple of brownies on the desk, and an non-alcoholic beverage, and if he fails to go with his instincts and get to work as the new temporary Mayor, then we will send in Lisbeth Salander.

    @3 You forgot the sweet part of the deal. Remember it’s a prison so it’s contracted to provide meals, accommodations, guards, ect to the prisoners and the government pays the prison company to provide those services. Do you really think private prison is cheaper and better than one done by local, state or federal government. HA HA HA. You can’t get much cheaper than the former toughest Sheriff in America.
    They may have modelled it after college football except for the guards part and 24-7 security.

    RR allegedly you are a retiree. So the only position Walmart would hire you for is as a Greeter. Since the next big thing will be more automation in stores there could be some job security in being a Greeter.
    Still McDonald’s is definitely putting it’s money into further automation to eliminate some or all of those workers.
    I think there maybe a hole in the plan should consumers decide at a certain point to shop or eat elsewhere where they are served by human beings. Personally I try to avoid shopping at Walmart, and will only do so in an emergency. McDonald’s I’d like to eliminate, but not with my job. Still the coke is so much better at McDonald’s.
    Hmmm don’t think the NFL can take part in that whole automation and robotics. Does not seem to fit their business model.

    @1 Looking at the District I’d say Rossi will likely win. The best chance to turn the district was the last three elections. Coming election is not a Presidential election and it’s in a predominately rural district. Rossi will definitely survive the primary, with the only question being who his opponent will be. could be another Republican actually.

    @21 Wow. Sure there was competition for that honor. Still there are a lot of bus stops up here in Whatcom county that put that spot to shame. There really are a few rural bus stops up here and some I go what a bus stop there?!? No house for 500 yards, no business, just woods or a corn field.

    @24 I don’t know he’s in New York city and they only drink water stolen from the upper state. There are still some up state New Yorkers upset with the theft. It’s fall so things do get a little dry and the city occassionally has to try more local sources. So one may want to stick to beer. This is one reason why prohibition was not popular in the five Burroughs.

    @26 If the Democrats were as truly gifted as you are suggesting here. We would have single payer instead of the ACA. Which frankly was a Republican health plan supported by corporations and put in place by the Democrats. The Republican’s maybe hesitant in getting rid of the Republican health care plan as their corporate buds in the industry are whispering in their ears.
    Unfortunately all this hoopla won’t end attempts to upend it. Especially if the Republican’s pick up a Senator or two, and retain the house in the next election. Then if the house can pass something it will pass the Senate.
    So nothing will happen unless the ACA is financially flawed and some kind of action to save it financially. As some states pick up the bill and other states do not.
    So why not single payer in Washington State. We can do it. I just don’t see any action in our statehouse from Democrats for such a thing.
