8,
It’s all part of lowering the bar for the special needs hillbilly population.
Cast your eyes on 9 and see it all confirmed in tweet length.
The really sad thing will be, even when the hillbillies self-define their victory in terms of vastly expanding opiate addiction, widening income inequality, millions tossed from health insurance, steep increases in domestic terror events, collapse of trade, environmental plunder, rising inflation, and strip-mining Medicare and Social Security, their public approval continues to decline to record lows.
I didn’t watch last night, I haven’t turned the TV on since November – don’t care to see bullshit.
But let’s see – If I heard correctly, propose to spend $1 Trillion on infrastructure, build a stupid wall for tens of billions, and to increase military spending, and no more talk of having to deal with fiscal restraint because of the astronomical deficit. And the stock market isn’t going to react.
But when Blakie proposed to spend the money on infrastructure and every step of the way is fiscal restraint, miraculously we have stagnant growth (but no recession).
Boy Boob you are one smart guy. No wonder you are a failed doctor.

Supporting police is not as unqualified as Preznit Drumpf might have you believe. It’s nuanced.
“Federal prosecutors say seven Baltimore police officers have been arrested on charges of racketeering, including allegedly robbing people, filing false affidavits and making fake claims for overtime. A news release Wednesday morning from the U.S. attorney’s office says one officer also is charged with drug distribution.”
Roger Rabbit Commentary: The vast majority of police officers are admirable public servants who do a professional job, but there are bad apples, and the barrel needs cleaning. Arguing that police are above criticism, as Drumpf does, perpetuates bad cops and hurts good ones.

Roger Rabbitspews:
Here’s what people smarter than Doctor Dumbfuck make of it:
“Trump managed to jump over ‘a pretty low bar’ with speech but a reckoning may come”
“Although markets are celebrating President Donald Trump’s more upbeat message to Congress on Tuesday night … there’s still reason to think investors may be getting way ahead of themselves on the president’s ability to deliver on massive fiscal stimulus.
“From a political theater perspective, Trump clearly succeeded … From the outset, this was a different Trump. … Throughout the address, Trump generally returned to optimistic themes …. [I]nvestors … embraced the more presidential tone, figuring it will give Trump some fresh political capital … [for] comprehensive corporate and individual tax reform, along with a hefty stimulus package ….
“However, … Trump did not wade deeply into the thorny policy specifics bedeviling Congress. …
‘A pretty low bar’
“Somewhat surprisingly, Trump called for Congress to pass an immigration reform bill, with aides on Tuesday suggesting the president was ‘open’ to a path to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the country. It remains very hard to see Congress, already overburdened with Obamacare, tax reform and the budget, coming together to do any such thing.
“Trump once again touted the stock market advance, something presidents usually avoid because markets also sometimes go down. …
“Wall Street analysts generally praised the speech but questioned the lack of any specific detail on tax reform.
“‘This was still a campaign speech …,’ Brown Brothers Harriman’s Scott Clemons said after the speech. ‘But it was light on details … both corporate and individual tax reform really got little more than a passing glance and no more details. I didn’t hear a whole lot that was new. He was certainly more presidential but that’s a pretty low bar.’
“The reality on Capitol Hill is that there is still no clear path forward on Obamacare and the August timetable laid out for tax reform is incredibly ambitious. … There is probably some final agreement available on tax reform, but the process could be long and hard, and cause investors to reset expectations.
“There is also little agreement on the Hill on how to structure any stimulus package. It’s not surprising markets are celebrating the emergence of a more presidential Trump. Yet we’ve seen that version before and it hasn’t lasted long. There still could be a market reckoning ahead.”
Roger Rabbit Commentary: Hey, don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to put a 300-point Dow jump in an envelope and mail it back to where it came from. The thing is, what goes up one day, can come down the next day. The market is already expensive, and this merely makes it more expensive. As regular HA readers know, I’m no fan of market timing, but stocks aren’t priceless, and at some point everything is for sale, know what I mean? We’re not quite there yet, but I can’t rule out making some sales to stupid hillbillies with more cash than brains, and then buying the stock back from them when the correction comes.

Russia’s population is about 10% of China’s, and China is involved in seizing the South China Sea because it thinks there’s lots of oil there. Once China finally finishes claiming the area and gets to the production of oil, it will be energy independent and a major, major player in the world economy. China considers itself to be the center of the world and fully intends to dominate the world economy in this century.
That’s some bad news for the Russians because, not only is their economy weak in comparison to the Chinese, China has a heck of a lot more people. And China might decide to expand its borders to the North. Bad news for Russia if this comes to pass. I wonder if the Russians have any plans for handling potential Chinese aggression against Russia. Something for the Russians to think about, that’s for sure.

And when oil is cheap, as it is now, it makes more sense to buy other people’s oil than use your own. The fish are probably a bigger deal than the oil, with all those mouths to feed. But the major reasons China is trying to grab the whole of the SCS are (1) historical and cultural identity factors (a very big deal), (2) strategic, i.e. keep the U.S. Navy out, and (3) a third of the world’s seaborne commerce passes through it, including all of China’s exports.

There’s either a liar there or a financial idiot.
If you have good credit and income you can finance an education through various loans (or even low interest credit cards) and pay less in interest than you are earning keeping the money invested.
Pencil it out.
Say it’s 50,000 for four years with room and board and you paid cash. You made zero on that 50,000.
If you stuck $50,000 into a really crappy account earning only 3% annually you would have $60,000 in six years.
If you financed the $50,000 tuition at 6% over ten years you will spend about $60,000.
So would you in the long run earn more with your money in your investment account and financing tuition or is it wise to just pay the tuition in cash as you claim to do?
When it comes time I may be better off leaving the money I’ve been investing for college as investment and looking for a low rate home equity loan to finance University. We’ll see.

and I actually went to the driving range this week, so there’s that….my schedule is all over the place, so I need flexibility, which is one thing the choo choo has ZERO of.
Thats great for passengers, who are carrying luggage ONCE every time they travel. Try doing that everyday to and from work. no thanks.
Look dude, if it works for you, great. Have at it, just remember the price tag once its done. IDGAF.
The bottom line is, it serves a pretty narrow portion of the puget sound workforce…kinda like the asinine bike lanes in downtown seattle, serving 1% of the commuters out there.
Its not how I would choose to travel, even if it was available where I live.
112
Stevespews:
Can’t speak for Max, but I prefer hard copies of drawings.
If my clubs are in my truck, I’m ready to play golf anytime. In winter, if I decide that I want to head to the range, no problem. Perhaps I’ve wasted a few dinosaurs by toting them around in my pickup, but unless riding is mandatory, I always walk the course, carrying my clubs. So at least I’ve got that going for me.
Some courses, you’d better ride in that damned cart. If one tries to remove the bag from the cart while playing at Pebble Beach, say just to carry it across the fairway to play a shot, some fucker will jump out of a bush every goddamned time and nail you for it.
If anybody thinks golf is a rich man’s game, try hanging out at Jefferson Park some afternoon.

I actually saw a cyclist riding in the 2nd Avenue bike lane the other day. That makes about a dozen or so I’ve seen over the two years since I started working downtown again.

Well no shit sherlock, that not all of Pierce Co. in ST taxing zone – not all of King Co is either.
But, Piece Co voted against ST3 by 56%, which is why there is a move to extract them, or parts of them(like I said), from ST…
who knows what will happen….but I will tell you this. Once the ST bills start coming in(which they are starting to now), you can forget EVER getting another large scale ST(4 or 5) to pass the voters anywhere outside of Seattle(and maybe Seattle too).
ST3 was too big, and coming from an agency that does not have the best record….what ST3 did was poison the drinking well for future taxation of transit(and other stuff too probably). It should have been cut down in size and scope to allow more flexibility with funds availability and design intent over the coming years and decades….and to make it more palatable to voters who dont expect shit back from it for 20-30 years.
115
Tom Vuspews:

lol steve…..good thing they put those roads on “diets”..
You know, we talked about playing golf a couple of years ago and it didnt happen…..lets make it happen this summer for sure.
116
Tom Vuspews:
112
I agree with exactly what Steve said.
….hard to scribble notes on digital plans. Ya, I know it can be done, but I am old school…..back from when we drew blueprints by hand in college. CAD? whats that? :P
117
Tom Vuspews:
Oh, and in case anybody was wondering…..its all you need to know..
Every financial adviser worth anything says you max out your tax-advantaged savings options FIRST before you set anything aside for your kids education..
You can get loans (low cost, subsidized) for college..
Can you get loans for your retirement?
120
Tom Vuspews:
118
LMFAO steve…..you know!
121
Tom Vuspews:
119
I would agree with that.
One caveat though regarding GET, is that when you sign up, you lock in at the current going rate of attending a university. How much does tuition go up in 18 years? A whole hell of a lot…..we will be paying 1999 tuition costs when our next one goes to college this fall.
122
Tom Vuspews:
119
The key is to not have any loans or debt at retirement…. including not having a mortgage….
123
Czechsaazspews:
@108
GET works great as long as your kid stays in state. You can apply the funds to out of state but you’re only getting the current in-state UW tuition to apply to that. And tuition at a private college may not rise as fast as UW so ROI may be better elsewhere.
If you parked four years of UW tuition in a GET account at birth you likely would do better putting the same lump sum into a different investment. Especially since UW rolled back tuition rates last year.
124
Tom Vuspews:
123
Wrong
GET works in most states…mine are not in or going into college in washington, and have not been impacted by going out of state.
125
Tom Vuspews:
123
And how often does tuition ever get roled back? Like never, accept this one time…who coulda predicted that?
Regardless, we are happy with the investment….no loans to take out, and no real impact to our usual budget…win win.
@125 Damn how disappointing.. What makes up for the future costs of your kids education?

Also seen on Link Light Rail are commercial aircrews, who lay over in hotels downtown between one day’s flying and the next. Link is far more convenient for them than airport hotels or ground transport.
So you won’t ever ride Link, and you childishly call it a choo-choo. Do you think I consider those to be problems? (Hint: since you’re paying for it while I ride it, the joke is on you, pal.)

So Naggy is driving around with drawings in the back or trunk of his vehicle. What kind of high paid individual would do that. But at the same time some low wage earner isn’t going to do that either, so Naggy is just some middle of the road “builder” that thinks more of himself. I wonder how often he pulls them out to look at them, maybe after he 7 putts each hole?
If the company I worked for told me or the job required to haul around drawings today like it use to, I’d probably tell them that I’d rather make $8.00 per hour – fuck that. Must not work for a good enough company that can purchase and support good technology, otherwise why carry that shit around? It would be like paying for a tower crane that you didn’t need!
I had an uncle who was a developer of residential buildings. He would be I think about 98 if he weren’t dead. He’s the last guy I can remember who had plans in the back of his trunk, other than myself 20 years ago.
Does it snow a lot where Naggy lives? Does he use the added weight to help keep the hillbilymobile from skidding off the road?

ST3 doesn’t do as much for Pierce Co. as the earlier editions did, yet 44% voted for it. That’s hardly the widespread revulsion you claim.
…there is a move to extract them, or parts of them(like I said), from ST…
So, this “move” — has it filed an Initiative to the legislature to move the boundaries of the ST taxing district? Is it getting citizens to contact their legislators in support of such movement? What evidence have we of any “move”?
Like-minded whiners occasionally whining at each other is not a “move,” it’s a gripe-fest which accomplishes exactly nothing.

ST3 was too big, and coming from an agency that does not have the best record….what ST3 did was poison the drinking well for future taxation of transit(and other stuff too probably).
Ah, yes: the always-predicted dystopia borne of liberal policies, which never, ever arrives, no matter how many times critics of those liberal policies predict its imminent arrival.
(Don’t worry — you can interleave such predictions with bitter whining about how liberal Seattle never rejects a tax increase. Making diametrically opposite statements which are *both* wrong is the closest you come to an accomplishment.)
It should have been cut down in size and scope…
Because a smaller transit system has more appeal to potential riders? You seriously expect anyone to fall for this?
…and to make it more palatable to voters who dont expect shit back from it for 20-30 years.

You use the word wrong wrong.
GET does work out of state for the value of UW at the time of enrollment but you don’t get anything back if you overspent. The value of you GET account is the in-state tuition value of UW.
If the age of your kids is working out for you, great. But if you took your own plan and dropped a bunch of cash into GET in 2014 your account has lost value. And what if WA finally gets their McCleary act together and tuition only rises between 2-6% over the next decade?
You’d be better off investing your money elsewhere. GET is like an all blue chip IRA. Safe but probably low yield. If you’re not risk averse and a smart investor you can do way better.

Stevespews:
“Steve thanks for proving that many are getting away from hard copies”
Hard copy drawings are not obsolete. Contractors are not out in the field constructing buildings using their smart phones. The problem I see is that young designers who have never even seen a plot before, only what they see on a screen, are producing the worst contract documents I’ve ever seen because half the drawing, half of the contract, disappears when plotted and they don’t even fucking know it. They haven’t a clue. But maybe they’ll get a clue when a judge or arbitrator rules that “your contract documents are unconstructable”.
175
Dipshitspews:
@174.
Agree that drawings are not obsolete. And contractors are not building using their smart phones. But I’ve not been out west but here in the east some, maybe a minority at the moment, are using tablets in the field with the contract documents and shop drawings on the tablets for easier reference. And the tablets have the latest drawings that are updated or marked up with RFI’s (Request for Infotmation) and Designer issued changes. That’s something you don’t see people doing, building in the field with drawings with the most current information posted, could be costly some times.
In our field offices, we supplement drawings with large screen monitors wall hung, again with updated documents that have RFI and latest Bulletins and ASI’s, that many use instead of the drawings. The drawings are even linked to one another so that the sections and elevation and blowups are all finger pointed links that jump you from document to document.
Are closeout documents – asibuilts and o&I’m manuals are all transmitted electronically. Owners don’t want hard copies of as-built drawings.
Estimators are using estimating programs, On-Center for one, that they no longer quantify or do takeoff with Hard Copies. Most, if not all, the takeoff done by our estimators are with electronic drawings.
Out VDC group, using all electronic version of design documents, but not even those, they work with the Designer’s 3D model.
We have steel subcontractors using models. I’ve worked with a subcontractor’s steel model and applied schedule to it.
I have an electronic studio with most if not all the design documents in one link. For all 15 (approx) of the projects I work on.
All the proposals sent to us from owners and architects are all electronic files (drawings and Documents). Sure some within our company still print out hard copies but for all it is not necessary, depends on how you need to use them.
Speaking of shitty designers. You ever have the need to overlay what use to be done on a light table two drawings to see what changes were made but not clouded by the designers? Easiest way to do that is with electronic files.
And designers drawings aren’t a whole lot worse because of technology, I would disagree there, yeah they do suck, but that’s because if you don’t idiots like Maggy that have 3 years of experience and think they are so great, and the firm doing away with their more costly experienced guy (and now gals). Quality suffers because cost (lower Fees and owners wanting design complete overnight).
So yeah, drawings aren’t obsolete, like I said I have done on my desk right now, but depending on your needs they are becoming more obsolete.
The pictures of advertisement of the construction guy looking at drawings is also going by the wayside, bring replaced with guys looking at tablets.
Robots Steve! Roberts. Can’t call them obsolete (just yet) but sounds like you are behind the times and don’t like change

Stevespews:
“Can’t call them obsolete (just yet) but sounds like you are behind the times and don’t like change”
No, I welcome change. So do contractors. Whether one uses a pencil or computer modeling as a design tool, it’s still the human mind behind the design that matters. Frank Lloyd Wright used pencils. How many architects do you know who stand above him?
180
The Wisdom of PissCanspews:
I agree with you – not saying that going electronic drawings (no pencils) makes it any superior or those using pencils are less.
That isn’t the discussion here – the discussion here is regarding using electronic drawings as a builder or general contractor or construction manager as opposed to prints. The prints that Whack Job is carrying around as ballast in his car/truck.
You guys seem to be knocking or invalidating the use of electronic drawings and indicating that they aren’t used by an “professional”. Which clearly isn’t only wrong, but not the direction we are headed with technology.
Robots! Damn Robots!
You are right they do welcome change – and they are changing, unlike you an Naggy seemed to indicate or make people believe. I believe you and he blew snots out at the notion of it.

But you gotta admit, it’s fun watching the hillbillies lose at their own game, played by their own rules, on their home field.

We’ll see.

The bottom line is, it serves a pretty narrow portion of the puget sound workforce…kinda like the asinine bike lanes in downtown seattle, serving 1% of the commuters out there.

Tom Vu spews:

One caveat though regarding GET, is that when you sign up, you lock in at the current going rate of attending a university. How much does tuition go up in 18 years? A whole hell of a lot…..we will be paying 1999 tuition costs when our next one goes to college this fall.
Tom Vu spews:

The key is to not have any loans or debt at retirement…. including not having a mortgage….
Czechsaaz spews:
@108
Tom Vu spews:

Wrong
GET works in most states…mine are not in or going into college in washington, and have not been impacted by going out of state.

I wonder how often he pulls them out to look at them, maybe after he 7 putts each hole?
If the company I worked for told me or the job required to haul around drawings today like it use to, I’d probably tell them that I’d rather make $8.00 per hour – fuck that.

Dipshit spews:
@174.

The Wisdom of PissCan spews:
I agree with you – not saying that going electronic drawings (no pencils) makes it any superior or those using pencils are less.
That isn’t the discussion here – the discussion here is regarding using electronic drawings as a builder or general contractor or construction manager as opposed to prints. The prints that Whack Job is carrying around as ballast in his car/truck.
You guys seem to be knocking or invalidating the use of electronic drawings and indicating that they aren’t used by an “professional”. Which clearly isn’t only wrong, but not the direction we are headed with technology.
