Cleveland has agreed to pay Tamir Rice’s family $6 million for the wrongful death of their son. He was playing with a toy gun in a public park when gunned down by a trigger-happy rookie cop who’d been sacked by another police department as “unfit for duty.” That’s a lot of money, but I’m sure they’d rather have their son. Meanwhile, the two cops involved in the incident got off the hook. Event though a judge found probable cause, a grand jury declined to indict them. So far as I know, they’re still on duty, drawing pay and earning pension time, prowling the streets of Cleveland. As usual, taxpayers will pick up the tab for what they did to an innocent kid.
By the way, the kid was black and the cops were white. Are you outraged yet? Does throwing $6 million of other people’s money at it make anything better?
@1 I was already outraged. Tamir Rice should still be alive and his family not heartbroken with the loss of a child. Knowing a couple of families who have lost a child, one to an accident, another to suicide, I’ve realized that there is no true recovery. At best, they only learn to continue living life again. This lost will haunt and hurt the Rice family for the rest of their lives.

I don’t believe the record supports that. So far as I know or any reputable media outlet has been able to learn, there is no official record or a “no-bill” vote on any charges. Of course the GJ proceedings themselves are secret, and the only recorded outcome, other than numerous media statements from the Prosecutor, is a “no-bill notification” filed with the court by the clerk. There is no official record of any GJ vote No record of a “no-bill” vote at all. McGinty has admitted that no vote was taken. He never asked the GJ to take such a vote. His office has stated that no vote was taken. What the GJ “decided” is entirely unclear. But they did not “decline” to vote a “true bill”. They “declined” to vote at all. The Rice family will never know why. Only McGinty knows. And he aint sayin.

Dumbfuck, Cleveland’s potential liability rested far more with the actions of the dispatcher who failed to notify the responding officers that the citizen who called it in thought the gun was probably fake and that the individual in possession of the gun was likely a child, than with actions of officers who rolled up and saw someone reach for what they had good reason to believe was a real weapon. I don’t blame the City for settling, after what happened in Baltimore, but Cleveland’s lawyers didn’t settle because of the police actions. They settled because of the reason the police felt they needed to act as quickly as they did.

Syria is just one place a proper civil war is taking place. Usually groups aren’t organized enough to do more than be low level revolutionaries or terrorists.
