In other news, Patty Murray just lost my vote.

When she was first running for the office, this woman sat in my mothers living room preaching the gospel about how she wouldn’t be taking PAC money or soliciting donations from corporate fat cats, and those Senators who were doing this should be weeded out and investigated for corruption. I understand that she’s been a pretty good Senator, but the reality is we need to get the Corporate money out of the system entirely, something that she agreed with at the time, and now she has completly reversed her attitude and is doing nothing to help the revolving money situation.

There are too many mutual back scratchers and favor traders out there and the system has become entirely corrupted.

Chase Bank Writes Man A Check, Throws Him In Jail For Trying To Cash It

By Zaid Jilani on Jul 8, 2011 at 9:50 am

A 28-year old Washington state construction worker Ikenna Njoku bought a home a year ago, considered by many to be an essential part of the American Dream. “I was really excited. For the first time, I actually got to buy a lawn mower, mow my lawn and everything,” he told a local news station.

By purchasing a home, Njoku qualified for a first time home buyer rebate on his tax return. The IRS directly deposited his rebate into his Chase Bank account. Chase had previously closed Njoku’s account due to overdrawn checks, so it first deducted $600 to recoup its expenses and then mailed a $8,463.21 check to him.

But when he showed up at Chase Bank to cash his check, the teller refused to believe that it was legitimate. He returned later and found the police waiting for him. He was immediately arrested. Within a day, the bank realized it had made a mistake, but because the local detective was off work, Njoku was unable to get out of jail for three days.

By then, he had been fired from his job and his car had been towed. He ended up having to sell the car because he couldn’t afford to get it out of the pound. And after all this, Chase still hasn’t apologized in the year since these events occured. His lawyer his requested damages from the bank, but has yet to get any sort of agreement out of it. Local news station KING 5 filed a video report about Njoku’s case. Watch it:

Think this would have been different if he had been white? YOU FUCKING BET IT WOULD.

I hope Chase gets the holy living fuck sued out of them.

Orrin Hatch Wants The Poor To Shoulder More Responsibility For Deficit Reduction

By Travis Waldron on Jul 7, 2011 at 5:20 pm

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) dusted off one of his favorite talking points on the Senate floor today, calling on the poor and the middle class to shoulder more of the pain of deficit reduction because they don’t pay enough in taxes. After the Senate considered a Sense of the Senate stating that “any agreement to reduce the budget deficit should require that those earning $1,000,000 or more per year make a more meaningful contribution to the deficit reduction effort,” Hatch took to the floor to defend rich taxpayers, whose tax rates are at modern lows thanks to the Bush tax cuts.

Hatch complained that 51 percent of Americans don’t pay income taxes and hinted that what the poor and middle class pay in payroll taxes doesn’t count as a contribution since it goes toward Social Security:

HATCH: I hear how they’re [Democrats] so caring for the poor and so forth. The poor need jobs! And they also need to share some of the responsibility. Now we don’t want the really poor people who are in poverty to pay income taxes. But 51 percent of all households? And that’s going up by the way because of our friend down in the White House and his allies.

As ThinkProgress noted during Hatch’s original rant on this subject in May, when he said the poor and middle class needed to shoulder a bigger part of the tax burden, the 51 percent Hatch cites is made up primarily of people who either don’t have income (senior citizens and students) or people who don’t earn enough to reach into even the lowest tax bracket. And regardless of what Hatch says, they do pay taxes.

Hatch’s position couldn’t be clearer: as the amount of wealth further concentrates toward the top and as those people pay record-low tax rates, it’s the working poor who need to shoulder the brunt of the recession’s pain.

From the “heed your Feudal Masters Department”…

Here come the assclowns with supoorting this dumb fuck arguement…five…four…three…two…

Police Called to Remove Democrat from McKenna Speech

Morning Fizz July 8, 2011 at 8:03 am Morning Fizz

    1. Rob McKenna got camera shy in Bellevue last night.

About 30 folks had gathered in a corner room at the North Bellevue Community Center (across the tidy suburban complex from the ballroom dancing lessons) to hear Washington State Attorney General and Republican gubernatorial candidate McKenna speak to the King County Young Republicans. McKenna was about 40 seconds into his talk—he was outlining the state’s dismal job numbers—when a young man in a blue Cougars baseball cap, blue sweat jacket, jeans, and Tevas walked in, sat in the front row, took out a camera and started filming.

“This individual’s presence and activities on your property—including filming political activities—constitutes core political activity robustly protected by the First Amendment.”
McKenna stopped and asked the man who he was with. The man gave his name, Zach Wurtz, and said he was with the Washington State Democrats. The Young Republicans club president, Jennifer Fetters, asked him to leave. Nope. McKenna told Wurtz to turn off the camera. Wurtz refused. McKenna’s voice got sharper, “Turn it off. Now!”

Brought to you by your local Banana Republicans.

A funny thing happened while the Republicans were trying to stir up illegal immigraton as an issue. It turns out it isn’t such a big issue, after all.

Recent evidence says that net migration between Mexico and the U.S. is now effectively zero, with those returning back to Mexico offseting any who try to come to the U.S.

You can argue about the causes. Certainly the economic downturn (i.e., Bush’s “Great Rescession”) had an impact. Some have credited Pres. Obama’s committment of more resources to border enforcement, deportations, and prosecution of employers who knowingly hire undocumented workers. Others have even pointed to family planning in Mexico, whereby the birth rate dropped from over six per couple to now just about 2, the same as in the U.S.

But what in the world are the right wing nuts going to rail about when they can no longer demonize Mexican workers for causing them to lose their jobs?

In an interview given from jail, he said:

During his jailhouse interview Wednesday, McVay told WKOW that he cooked up what he described as a presidential assassination plot while in solitary confinement in Sioux Falls, where he “sat with nothing but a radio and my own hallucinations.” He said he was angered by Obama’s economic policies and was “going to get him on the golf range.”

I’ll Bet This Guy Is Republican Or Senile … Or Both

St. Francis, Minnesota, has a problem — in the person of city councilman LeRoy Schaffer.

Schaffer, age 72, has harrassed nearly every female in town. When he asks them for dates, he won’t take “no” for an answer; he threatens to pull their business licenses to make them say “yes.” He also makes remarks like this:

A”ct two was when Edward Reynoso, a newly appointed member of the Metropolitan Council, introduced himself as the local representative. When he finished, Schaffer speculated about Reynoso’s background. ‘I think you’re Latino,’ Schaffer began, causing councilman Jeff Sandoval to turn away as if he’d rolled his eyes so hard it spun his chair. ‘I’ve got a feeling you’re maybe low income, or have experienced low income or whatever, and I feel you’ll be a good addition because of it … Do you come from that background, is my suspicion right or am I just shootin’ blind here?'”

Schaffer had already been censured four times by his fellow council members when he decided to puff up some public sympathy for himself by mailing a fake hand grenade to — himself.

Well, now it looks like Old LeRoy may do some jail time. I’m sure the fair ladies of St. Francis will breathe easier while he does time. Hopefully they can get him on terrorism charges so the women can breathe free air for a long, long time.

Update: Guns Don’t Kill People Dep’t

Yesterday’s Michigan mass murder went down like this. The perp was an ex-con who did time for violent assault. Now free as a bird, and armed, here’s what he did:

“An ex-convict who went on a deadly shooting spree targeted two ex-girlfriends, fatally shooting both of them and five members of their families, including his own 12-year-old daughter, police said Friday. At the start of his hours-long rampage, Rodrick Shonte Dantzler tracked down his daughter and her mother and killed them, along with the mother’s own parents. He then went to a different house and killed another former girlfriend, plus her sister and 10-year-old niece.”

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43.....nd_courts/

Roger Rabbit Commentary: This type of headline story is becoming commonplace in America, yet Wisconsin’s GOP legislators pushed a bill that would have allowed anyone to buy and carry a concealed gun without requiring a criminal background check or permit — until public outrage forced them to back down.

Why would anyone vote for these idiots? The way to avoid problems like this is don’t put them in the legislature to begin with. Now, Wisconsin voters have to go vote in a special election next week to get them out of office.

    Tea Party Nation Goes Birther

Submitted by Brian Tashman on July 8, 2011 – 9:50am

Judson Phillips of Tea Party Nation is taking a stand for the Birther movement, months after President Barack Obama released his long-form birth certificate to quash discredited claims that he was born outside of the U.S. Naturally, conspiracy theorists were not satisfied by evidence, and the president of one of the country’s leading tea party groups still doubts the President Obama’s citizenship. In a column sent to Tea Party Nation members praising Orly Taitz, the fanatical birther activist who has floated armed rebellion against Obama is now embarking on yet another lawsuit based on research from the birther website World Net Daily. Phillips writes that Taitz should receive an award from the American Bar Association for her campaign to prove that Obama isn’t eligible to serve as president, suggesting she may “deserve a place among the great lawyers of this country”:

    Schaffer’s a real live one:

    http://www.startribune.com/loc.....90954.html

Over the several years of rebukes for his public behavior, St. Francis City Council Member Leroy Schaffer has claimed he was the victim of political adversaries.

Last Friday, he reported a letter bomb as evidence, police say. But in the end, the “enemy” may have been himself.

Charged with filing a false police report, a misdemeanor, Schaffer resigned from his council seat Thursday afternoon. He did not return repeated phone calls.

An Anoka County Sheriff’s release outlines perhaps the strangest chapter in his unusual political history.

According to the release, Schaffer called St. Francis police to his house at 5:30 p.m. last Friday, reporting a suspicious package. He showed the arriving officer a box, still in his mailbox, which had a Chicago postmark. Schaffer insisted that the officer open the package, the release said. When the officer refused, Schaffer opened it himself. Inside, the officer saw what appeared to be a hand grenade. Schaffer proclaimed it a “dud,” the sheriff’s office said, showing the officer a hole drilled in its bottom. There also was a note, “The next one will be real.”

Investigators from the sheriff’s office were called. They noted that the package was addressed with a preprinted label from the Paralyzed Veterans of America.

Inside Schaffer’s house, investigators found a sheet of identical labels, minus one.

I’ve decided that while things change over time people, for the most, part don’t.

You need to look at whether or not the person you’ve elected fits with what you see coming down the pike. Having done a good job in the past doesn’t necessarily mean they will do a good job in the future. Their ability to adapt and what they’re currently working on is the real key. I think Murray’s done a great job for us in the past, but I was disappointed that she didn’t retire and recruit someone to take her place. I think she’s going to do a great job representing 2008 all the way until her next term expires.

Cantwelll and Inslee with their work on energy, the environment and technology are in the right places and doing the right things for the future.

Guns Don’t Kill People Dep’t (Again)

Just one day after a mass shooting in Michigan arising out of a domestic dispute, we have another mass shooting in Wyoming:

“A man opened fire inside a Wyoming mobile home, killing his three sons and a brother and injuring his wife, authorities said Friday. … Police found the bodies of the three boys and the brother … inside the trailer home Thursday in Wheatland, about 70 miles north of Cheyenne. The woman was shot twice but was listed in good condition at a Cheyenne hospital.”

    http://www.usatoday.com/news/w.....ting_n.htm

Roger Rabbit Commentary: But hey! Any Wisconsin Republican legislator can tell you a gun is an inanimate object that can’t act by itself — it needs an insane person to pull the trigger. And that’s why Wisconsin Republican legislators think anybody should be able to buy and carry guns in that state without requiring a criminal background check or permit.
