– This is worse than what Weiner did, so I’m sure the Republicans will demand he resign.

Roger Rabbit spews:
Looks like Obama is gonna cave on taxes, in trade for GOP assent to Pentagon budget cuts, which is no trade at all because there’s no way you reduce the deficit without taking a whack at the $300 billion a year that George W. Bush added to Pentagon spending.
Obama is no Teddy Roosevelt. He lets himself be pulled along, instead of getting out in front and leading. He lets GOP pressure push his policies instead of shaping public opinion.
And, once again, he’s going to give in to Republican bullying. Know what happens when you pay ransom to pirates? They hijack more ships.
Michael spews:
@1
Well, that sucks. We need those cuts and new revenue. Closing loopholes and giveaways would probably do it.
Michael spews:
That’s much, much, worse than what Weiner did, but why would we expect a political party without morals to call for him to resign?
No Time for Fascists spews:
I see two huge differences in the minds of republicans.
1) What Weiner did involved sex, which is bad, very bad. What prosser did involved violence which is just fine.
2) Weiner was a Democrat.
LD spews:
Oh of course closing loopholes is not raising taxes…
Why not just close the mortgage interest write off, especially for all those under water home owners, since you all believe so much in closing loopholes as an appropriate solution?
Go for it!
Maybe with savings interest rates at .01 and CD’s at 1%, just maybe someone would correlate this to the massive debt load Obama is pissing away, and cut the hell out of spending.
If interest rates are this low, then people aren’t earning interest, and if they are not earning interest they don’t have to pay taxes, and if they don’t have earnings then they go back to work, taking another job from someone who really needs it.
Idiocracy in DC…Period!
Michael spews:
@2
I suspect it was mostly #2.
But, I see no reason why we should let the right’s complete lack of morals and ethics define who we are our how we should behave. We on the left are not simply the negation of those on the right.
Michael spews:
@5
Do you have to work at being that belligerent and stupid, or does it come naturally to you?
LD spews:
So you believe that 3700 Billion in deficit spending is sane.
Do you have any idea what these interest rates at 0 (because of this massive deficit spending I might add) are doing to retirees incomes, pension fund incomes, Tax bases both State and Federal.
I mean really …get a clue
Michael spews:
@8
We’ve been over this before, several times in fact. No, I don’t think the deficit is a good thing. Several of us have laid out workable, sane, ways to bring it in line and every time we do that you magically disappear from the thread.
So why come back? Why don’t you just stay away.
LD spews:
Ignore the problem and it will go away with more spending, I see. Kick the can down the road all the way to Greece.

Michael @ 7, with regard to LD, I remember this old country song (Jimmy Buffett might have written it): “Were you born an asshole, or did you just grow up that way?” Being a shithole of LD’s caliber, frankly, in my humble opinion, requires both bad genes and getting raised wrong. Idiots like him just don’t happen without a lot of help from others of like mindlessness.
LD spews:
What hits the private sector will soon hit the public sector, and as it does, and it is and will continue, you will remember LD told you so!
DEBT DOES MATTER!
LD spews:
Property values plummeting = less sales tax and property tax coming in to the state
Buyers unwilling to buy till the bottom = lackluster sales
Interest rates at rock bottom = Less federal and in some cases less State taxes being paid
Stock market down 800 points = less earnings, more losses = less federal and state taxes paid
Less earnings (outsourcing, overseas nafta and India outsourcing) = no taxes paid to any municipality
Less earnings = less purchasing
Higher gas prices – = less gas bought = less state and local taxes paid
Need I continue
ArtFart spews:
@1 I’d say that depends on how much company Eric Cantor has among his Republican colleagues in placing heavy bets on US debt instruments and the dollar going in the tank. It may be that the entire budget “negotiation” is a charade, and that even if Obama offers up his own kids (not to mention yours and mine) as a blood sacrifice, they’ll just laugh at him and scuttle the the ship.

I never said Wiener should resign, until it came out that he offered to probably misuse either campaign or public funds in order to help his friends lie for him (i.e., he offered to have his people coach a porn star in how to talk to the press). That’s the only point in which I suggested he resign.
What this guy is alleged to have done is perhaps a bit worse than that (and much worse than the chat thing itself), though I am not sure. Physical assault is bad, but so is misuse of funds, especially if they were public funds. They both stink. Regardless of which is worse, both suck … the problem is, from the very post you link to, “Details of the incident … remain sketchy.”
You are literally saying, Goldy, that we should demand the resignation of someone when we don’t even know what happened.
This is why I constantly accuse you of dishonesty, Goldy. You pull this sort of nonsense all the time.
IF he did grab her by the neck with both hands, in a remotely abusive manner, then he should resign. But there is NO REASON to think that happened: not a single identifiable source or document or testimony or anything that any rational person can possibly consider to be worth consideration backs up this claim.
I gave Wiener the same consideration: when the tweet first went up, I didn’t care, because although unlikely, it was possible that it was just some weird mistake or an intern etc. I didn’t “give him the benefit of the doubt,” I just didn’t see anything there worthy of my consideration one way or another, even though there was far more evidence that Wiener did something wrong than there is that this judge did.

1. Assuming that anyone gives a flying fuck what they think.

4. Establishing false parameters. It doesn’t matter how many hands he choked someone with.
5. excusing away political violence when perpetrated by members of the right. Outside of S&M role playing, how can someone choke another person in a non-abusive manner? The answer: they can’t.
6&7 Denial of credible sources and accusing the left of acting irrational. A state supreme court justice isn’t credible?

Left to their own devices, contemporary Republicans would bankrupt this country and create anarchy in about two years’ time. They would ban taxes and render the government inoperable. Toxic waste dumps would proliferate. Our skies would be full of rancid smog. Infrastructure would fail. But, at least gay people couldn’t get married, workers couldn’t unionize, and women couldn’t choose to abort. Republican values at work.

rhp6033 spews:
@ 25: Republicans WILL cite a few countries as models for conservative economic policies – but only in the short run. In the early part of the last decade they thought Ireland and Iceland were great examples of how low taxes and deregulation had created wealth and jobs.
But in both countries, it was just a bubble where the wealth wasn’t real, it was based on borrowed money. The rich took their cut and dissapeared just before the bubble collapsed, leaving behind massive unemployment and debt to be assumed by the average taxpayers. In Iceland’s case, the debt was many times the entire GDP of the nation. And in Ireland, immigration from that nation due to the lack of jobs is rapidly approaching that of the Potato Famine, in terms of percentages of young people leaving Ireland to look for work elsewhere.
It’s kind of like how they bragged that the stock market heights in 2007 proved that the tax cuts and deregulation worked, only to be awfully quiet for a while when it tanked in late 2008 and early 2009. Republican policies can create a short-term bubble based on borrowed money, but in the long term voting for a Republican to manage the federal treasury is like putting a rat in charge of the cheese supply. Pretty soon, the cupboard is going to be bare.
Ironic, isn’t it, that Republicans lit the fire which threatened to burn down the whole house, and complain about the water bill when the Democrats are putting out the fire.

Why Aren’t Republicans Calling For Prosser To Resign?
A couple weeks ago the airwaves and blogosphere were crawling with Republicans demanding Rep. Anthony Weiner’s resignation for sextexting — and the guy didn’t even fuck anybody! (Republicans fuck people all the time.)
Well, where are all these Republican hypocrites now? Why, they’re defending Wisconsin justice David Prosser’s act of strangling one of his fellow justices, calling it “self-defense” — can you believe these fucking people?
“Sure enough, right-wing bloggers and even Fox’s Greta Van Susteren are not condemning Prosser’s act of violence – calling it defensive – but are instead demanding that Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson (the justice Prosser called a “bitch”) to resign.”
Here’s what it all boils down to: “The double standard that the right wing holds in terms of sexual behavior, misogyny, unethical financial reporting, conflicts of interest – and just outright criminally violent behavior – is a threat to respect for our legal system.”
Well, duh, Republicans show their disrespect for rule of law in countless ways every day. Let’s be real, people, Republican aren’t interested in responsible behavior, governance, or anything else. All they’re interested in is raw naked power.
Which puts them in the same camp as the likes of Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, Gadhafi, Mubarak, the Duvaliers, Pinochet, and their ilk.

Did you notice, dear pudgie, that even Prosser’s rightwing defenders aren’t denying her accusations? They’re defending the guy’s actions, not saying it didn’t happen. And you still don’t have a problem with him?
