    Striking what advocates believe is a historic victory for gay rights, the New York state senate Friday approved same-sex marriage, New York a promised governor’s signature away from being the sixth and largest state to allow gays and lesbians to marry.

    The 33-29 vote is an enormous victory for first-year Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat who pledged during last fall’s campaign to push for gay marriage. It comes after an intense public and private lobbying campaign from a wide cast of politicians, celebrities and athletes, including New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former President Bill Clinton.

    Gov. Scott Walker has called off plans to sign the 2011-’13 budget bill at a private Green Bay-area company run by an executive with eight felony convictions, a spokesman announced today.

    The announcement came less than an hour after the Journal Sentinel contacted the governor’s office to ask about the executive’s criminal history.

    Walker aide Cullen Werwie said this afternoon that the event will now be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fox Valley Metal-Tech Inc. in Green Bay.

    Werwie acknowledged that Walker’s advance team had erred by not conducting a thorough background check on Gregory A. DeCaster, chief executive officer of Badger Sheet Metal Works in Ashwaubenon, the original location for the ceremony.

    DeCaster was convicted of eight felony counts of income tax evasion in the mid-1990s and was sentenced to three months behind bars. He was also fined $10,000, ordered to pay another $3,700 to cover prosecutors’ expenses and given two years of supervised release.

    “It was something we wish we would have known on the front end,” Werwie said.

    So once again we’re left wondering about the righties, did they know and not give a shit, or did they not do their job and completely screw the pooch?

    From what I read the scary black man put his hand under his shirt, took a single $100 bill when he could have taken a stack, and then turned himself into the police, and plead guilty. That hardly warrants a 15 year sentence.

    As for the mortgage CEO, I really don’t believe in long prison sentences for non-violent offenders, so I guess three years works for me. But I hope there’s a finical restitution clause somewhere in that sentence. He should have to payback every penny he stole.

    They knew full well who the dude was, and they didn’t give a shit until it became public. Walker is a flat out criminal and it is getting harder and harder to hide it. Every GOP governor has some pretty serious criminal associations and they get much of their campaign financing from master grifters and money launderers. The entire GOP is just the old Mafia.

    1 – 3 … Shoreline is holding its annual Arts Festival this weekend at the Shoreline Center on 185th. Last year they had a food vendor who served fan-ta-bulous bratwurst and sauerkraut … the sauerkraut was out of this world!!! (Sauerkraut, in case you don’t know, is made from cabbage.) Plus, they feature arts and crafts booths, and live stage performances by dancers, singers, and musical instrument players.

    In other news, a federal judge has issued an injunction against Indiana’s GOP-controlled state government for trying to cut off federal Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood.

    Indiana’s Republican Taliban did this because they don’t lke the fact PP offers abortion services. But Medicaid funds, by law, can’t be used to perform abortions. So the funding they tried to cut off was for non-abortion medical services. For examples, breast exams to save the lives of poor women by detecting breast cancer early. They just wanted to punish PP. They probably wanted to punish those women, too, for being poor — as we all know, Republicans hate the poor and believe poverty results from immorality — not unemployment, job outsourcing, Hooverism, or other anti-American Republican economic policies.

    The was a hit-and-run in another state where the guy who was hit was killed, and his leg was found on the top of a nearby building. Man, the culprit car must have been going a zillion miles per hour to have that happen!

    We should get these illegal cars under control. I bet it was a Subaru that committed the crime.

    This is from The Republic, a Columbia, Indiana paper:

    When deputies arrived on the scene Friday, they found casings only from blank ammunition, Graves said. Doctors didn’t recover any bullets from the victims because the projectile ripped through them, he said.

    “There are a bunch of theories and we’re just going to have to work through this thing,” Graves said.

    He said some of the theories are that live ammo was fired, a blank round forced out something lodged in the barrel of a gun or a gun malfunctioned.

    “It’s a horrible situation and we hope to get to the bottom of it,” Graves said. “We’re not ruling anything out.”

    So, at this point, we don’t know whether or not live ammo was involved. Maybe we’ll find out in a few days.

    House Republicans proved today they were grandstanding by voting against a resolution authorizing President Obama to pursue military action against Libya but voting for continued funding for that same military action!!!

    Unlike DUMMOCRAPTS who previously voted to cut off Iraq troop funding when GWBush was president becuz DUMMOCRAPTS hate troops. Big Diff Roger Dumb Rabbit!
